I don't think anyone is saying Monta is better than Carmelo.

But, he might be a better fit with the existing roster, more complimentary to Amare.

There was the Carmelo thread that talked about him being used in more set situations vs. isos- well, we still need a player who can get into the lane at will and get off his shot. Maybe Monta is better at that than Carmelo.

Think playoffs when baskets are hard to come by- yes, Carmelo is a great weapon, but Monta with Amare might be better than Melo & Amare. The sum of the parts isn't always greater than the whole.

IMO Felton is enough of a dribble penetrator to fill that role... i would prefer not to be undersized at any position going forward... tell u the truth i'd even prefer Iguodala over Ellis if we were looking at plan B options.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Both are big scorers. Melo is a slightly better defender who also rebounds and ellis is turnover prone, so Melo...

I think if Ellis played on a team worth a crap people would realize how good he is. This is not a knock on Melo, rather I think many here dont know Ellis game. If he doesnt lead the league in steals he's close. For his 2-3 steals a game he gets his hands on about 5 more passes that dont go into the stat sheet. He's not regarded as a good defender because he's a 6'3 SG, essentially Tony Douglas, but he shoots a very good FG% and his scoring opens up a ton of space for other players and his assists show that. Ellis is 25 years old... if he played on the Knicks guys would be going gaga over him. He's as good or better than a preinjury Arenas and thats the same level of talent Melo is on.

You compare them and its a wash. Same Per, and PPS, what Melo gets you in rebounds Ellis gets you in assists and steals.

Ellis is awesome. I wrote authored a thread here complaining that we didn't go after him in the Lee trade, when he was rumored to have been made available to us. Ellis was flat out disgustingly awesome when the 8th Warriors knocked off the 1st Mavs.

But Ellis isn't in the same league as Melo. I wouldn't put him even in Joe Johnson league. I'd say he's in that third tier of stars, hanging out with the Carlos Boozers of the world.
