I don't see how a Amare/Melo combo or our current team with M. Gasol or another 2011 FA is going to compete with Miami, LA, SA or other elite teams. I realize that to have 2012 cap space you'd have to trade Wilson for picks and/or players on rookie contracts and would be willing to do that.
According to Steve Kerr's medical expertise, Amare's knees are literally about explode at any second.
Well then he was the wrong piece to add to a 29 win team! I love Amare and he's played great but I still am only lukewarm on the signing.
For me it's a wait and see. I love that he's taken the team out of the dumpster on his back with some help from his pal Felton. He's has exceeded EVERYONE'S expectations, is eating up playing in and for NY, and by all accounts has been the type of leader and locker room presence that I've never seen or heard of in NY. So for now I can't complain. If he maintains this for the majority of his tenure in NY, I will only view it as a smart and wonderful move. If he's part of the Knicks winning some rings along the way, it will go down as one of the best moves ever by a Knicks GM since they brought in Earl to play with Walt.
On the other hand, if he ends ups being injured or a shell of presence he's been for the majority of his NY tenure it will have been a gamble that didn't pay off. A mistake only because the issues were known. Because any great player in any sport can go down at anytime and end up never playing again. It's like buying fruit, as sometimes that best looking, smelling, and feeling piece tastes horrible, but you take the chance because when it's good the reward is happiness.
