People need to stop putting Dwight Howard ahead of Amar'e Stoudemire.

STAT is the best big man in the game today.

1) LeBron
2) Howard
3) Kobe
4) Wade
5) Stoudemire
6) Deron Williams
7) Durant
8) Melo
9) Paul
10) Nash

TMS is 100% correct about one thing (Although he didn't say it in this thread, or at least I don't think.) Durant and Melo should be considered in the same ranking purely b/c both are pure scorers and don't play much defense. However, I would still give the nod to Durant b/c of his length (Better defensive potential) and he simply has a heck of an attitude. If both of those guys had a better sense of urgency (Like Amar'e) then they'd be with LeBron, Wade, Kobe and Superman easily. However, all 3 of those guys aren't consistent enough on D', so they aren't there. Sometimes, their defense is non existant.

Didnt Durant win the scoring title last year? At 21? Durant is 22. Melo is 26. Big difference. All things equal its probably a push, but Durant is in his 4th year at 22. Dudes still developing his bag of tricks. He's also quicker than Melo, but not as strong.

he's done nothing to put himself ahead of Howard or Gasol or Dirk. Amare's awesome. Those guys are just as good

Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol can't score like STAT and Dirk Nowitzki doesn't rebound or block shots like STAT either. Amar'e Stoudemire is the most complete package imo.

how about this statement: Howard is as good defensively as Amare is offensively.

It's a wash between the two, despite the age difference. To be honest, I probably should have put Pau Gasol ahead of both of them.

Gasol is probably the best passing big in the NBA. Howard is EASILY the most dominant defensive player in the NBA right including cleaning the glass and blocking shots. I agree Amare is the best scorer, but not by big enough a margin to say he's clearly better than those other guys, and Howard has pushed him around. Dirk is simply one of the most unique players so its tough, but the dude still has an MVP all around game.

If I had to pick one right now it would be Howard because of his age and ability to totally anchor a team on defense and clean the glass. Probably Amare next

Supreme Commander, you deserve at a minimum a 20 minute timeout for leaving off Kobe. 10 minutes for leaving off Paul. But Pierce is debatable.

Very small body of work but right now - he's top ten. Give him a couple of years to prove he can keep it up. But he's putting up great numbers - his numbers in the last couple of Months are

MIN FG PCT 3P PCT FT PCT STL BLK TO PF OFF DEF TOT AST PTS
Numbers for December 38.7 133-252 .528 4-5 .800 75-128 .586 0.9 0.8 2.9 3.1 3.9 9.5 13.5 3.9 23.0
Numbers for January 38.3 83-159 .522 1-3 .333 55-80 .688 0.4 0.6 2.6 2.8 3.8 9.9 13.6 4.3 27.8

And now he even has the Clippers winning. If it was Griffin or Melo - I'd take Griffin.

PS - My problem certainly isn't my youth - maybe I'm getting senile

how can you say Blake Griffin is NOT in the top ten? He's skilled like Duncan and as physical on offense as Amare while being as strong as Karl Malone. If he stays healthy he will be one of the best front court players... ever.

Also... what about the old guys? Are we talking current skill level or guys you would start a team with? Because KG and Duncan are both superstars and better than guys like Melo and Durant. They arent as productive because their minutes are limited, but I would take a healthy KG in the playoffs over half the guys in your top 10 list. Same w/ Pierce

And where is Gasol? I would put him over Melo.

Ewingsglass.... good job w/ the o/u 30 list. Nash is still the best PG in the NBA, but his team is terrible.

I need to revise my list to include Blake Griffin... he is freakin awesome. I just haven't watched enough to appreciate it, but you are dead on. The guy is a monster

Fair engouh... I do think Russell is a beast on both ends of the court, but get what you're saying

Pierce is nowhere near top 10. Glorified spot up shooter who occasionally mixes it up.

I saw Chirs Paul play in Houston last Friday. He's awesome but I wasn't as impressed with him as I have been in the past. He played the 2 for a large portion of the game and they Jarrett Jack manning the point for large stretches of the game. He's among the best in the league but top 15 at best. As is Kobe. But, no, they are not in my top 10 at the moment. You don't like it, put me on ignore

I would agree Chris Paul and Kobe don't look like superstars this year. And Westbrook > Rose. Rose is a slightly better scorer but Westbrook's defense is just nasty while Rose is a bit of a liability.

your not watching him... one of the best finishers in the league. Great defender, great clutch player. He and Shimmy Walker took the Celtics to the conference finals. Dude may not be top ten but dame close. Guys an 8 time all star. Cmon man... Pierce is the real deal

I agree. I live near Boston and so the celts are on TV a lot. Pierce is not just a spot up shooter. He can take it to the hoop and has a mid range game off the dribble. Maybe not as good as he was a few years ago but still very good.

Have to agree with fishmike.

We're knick fans so you're entitled to over inflate our guy and Amare has been great this year and is a better scorer then Howard. But Howard is a Beast on defense and Amare in spite of his improvements - might be average. Note how many great games 4's and 5's have had against us this year.

And aside from a handful of other players there are few other 'franchise' type talents in the next 10 players on the list

i think u pretty much covered it there Killa... i agree with your groupings too... i think Lebron, Kobe & Dwight are in a class of their own... the rest of your list are pretty much comparable players, i think u could order it any way you want & get no arguments from most people that follow the NBA.

I don't understand the Dwight Howard love - fest... dude has no offensive game and always chokes in the playoffs.. He is def top 10 but no WAY in hell is he top 3

u may not understand it but i think Dwight Howard is the most dominant bigman in the game today... he changes the way the game is played on both ends by the opponent every night... i would trade anyone on our team for Dwight Howard & that includes Amare, because when i look at teams that have won championships in the NBA, a good number of them have had dominant defensive C's like Howard anchoring their roster... the thing about these rankings is that it's completely subjective... what u think is a top 3 doesn't make it so for someone else... we're all just giving opinions.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

I watch too many celtics games man. I'm not saying he's a bad player at ALL. But he's nowhere near the top 10. What did the C's do before they acquired KG? As much as I hate the guy he drew double teams game after game leaving Allen and Pierce wide open. Garnett has started to show his age but Rondo has emerged as one of the best pg's in the league. Pierce was never the best player on that team except when they were really bad.
