so this is based on a season of playfrom both williams and walker who barely plays? if so then it is even more ridiculous than I thought.. and I guess you felt you were helping TMS with this post?

The anti-Gallinari posts have become a bit annoying (almost boring, to be honest) recently.

All the hatred some folks had when he was picked seems to be resurfacing as they dream of a way to get him off the team.

the point is that i think Gallo is a very good player, but that we might be better off using him as an asset to upgrade in other areas of need... i wouldn't even be making these comments if i didn't believe Gallo was a quality player with good value that could net us something very good in return if we ever traded him... & again, i'm not saying we should do whatever we can to dump this guy... just that IF we're going to be trading away any of our top 3 young guys, i would look to deal Gallo first because i think we have other guys on the team that bring some of the perimeter threat that we'd lose if we dealt him... are u implying that Shawne Williams has only had 1 good game of shooting this season? i think he's been pretty dead eye shooting all year long... wasn't even all that high on him until he showed he belonged in this rotation... i don't let my allegiances to certain players blind me to what i'm seeing out on the floor.

again, i don't think Williams is better than Gallo & this is not aimed at anti-Gallo propaganda... i realize you are a big fan of Gallinari & i know you've been around long enough to know i've always been a supporter of his while guys were calling him a bust just a couple of years ago... i'm actually surprised you would take my comments to such an extreme... i love Gallo as much as anyone, but i'm a fan of the team first & the players second... i don't view any of our players as an untouchable right now other than Amare... if u don't agree w/me that's cool... i'm just basing my comments off what i've seen out of this team & these players all year... also looking at Gallo's potential upside to grow into much more than he already is on this team, i just don't see the opportunity there as long as he's going to be competing with guys like Amare, Felton & Wilson who Donnie has made it clear factor largely into his longterm plans... at least with a guy like Shawne Williams, he can be put into that role & you will likely be able to retain him for a cheap contract & open up your cap flexibility to make other moves... Gallo is going to be due for a large increase in his salary in a year's time like Finestrg pointed out... our best shot at getting top value for him might be to trade him now while his contract is manageable & teams are still high on his perceived upside... not sure how much that perceived upside might be negatively effected if he isn't able to take some major strides in his development in the near future.

now i wouldn't be shocked at all to see Gallo come back after his injury & drop 30 in any given night, because i do believe he's got the talent to do it, he's done it before... but right now i happen to think we are a better team w/Wilson playing that role of 3rd option than Gallo... personally i don't think there's anything unreasonable about anything i'm saying here, but ur free to disagree.

I agree. That three point shot of his is looking silkier by the game but I see Gallo being more active, doing more of the little things. He drives a lot more. He also plays better D imo. Williams might be just getting started but its still too early to tell.

i also concur. williams has been a nice surprise but gallo, even though his scoring stats are down, is doing a lot more this year in becoming a complete player.

i think Gallo has taken steps in getting to the FT line more & making it a point to be more aggressive going to the hole... i like what i've seen out of him in that respect.

If there was a trade that would bring Deron williams here, then feltons a wrap. saying one is more expendable then the other is not fair. thats why i'm glad we have a coach and GM on the same page as well as a bIG man and PG with the same common goal and heart.

You have to look at those 4 elements to figure out why we have been successful, Guys have excepted there roles and they get along off the court. It only takes one bad apple guys to f**k this thing up.

i agree everyone's expendable for the right player... i never said otherwise... but we're going to have to make some tough decisions in the near future if we want to upgrade our roster.

Well that is fine TMS...and I see what you are saying. I just don't agree, but you explained how you feel and I can understand that.. but for me, we just haven't gotten enough out of williams and or walker over an extended period of time to even make these kinds of decisions. so for me, it just comes off as making a decision after a few games? why not make this kind of claim a week ago, two weeks ago? three? but anyway, I want the best players on this team. Shawne williams as a starter on this team, may not have the same effect as williams off the bench. If you don't think he is the better player then why even consider moving gallo.. if you want to talk about contracts, then fine.. move chandler, he is up for a new deal this upcoming offseason, and honestly, we can score points and win, if chandler plays well or not? heck it seems that we can do well as long as amare and felton are on their games, and they are on, more often than not..

I do agree that gallo may never reach his potential on this team the way we are built now, but who knows.. funny things happen. I rather have the high upside talent waiting to step up when needed than wishing we had one, because we traded him away because we thought shawne williams could do what he does? just on a lesser level? no thanks..

Straw that broke the camel's back for me. Nothing personal, and I know you have not been irrational in regard to Gallo. (I hadn't even realized you were the OP.)

If yours was the first post of this type I would have had a different reaction.

I like Williams a lot, and he is perfect for this system, and from what I have seen, his open 3's are more consistent than anyone on our team at this point. I've even liked his D.

He has limitations on offense, though, and is just not the all around player that Gallinari is.

And lets face it, Gallinari's has been a lightening rod for all kinds of vitriol from posters.

I think a dedicated "Gallo Must Go" thread is in line at this time.

The irony, in my mind, and this does not apply to you, is the idea that so many don't like Gallo's game but think that Denver or another team will somehow think he is a great player they must give up the house for.

i'm not suggesting Williams would take Gallo's place as a starter... i just think if there's a player out there we could target to upgrade in the starting rotation, that Gallo would probably make the most sense to offer in a deal because he's got good value & because we have guys like Shawne Williams that can provide some of that perimeter shooting that we'd be losing... let's say there's a topnotch C we can target using Gallo as a piece, i'd go for it... or if we have to include some of our young guys to go after Melo for example, i think i'd have the least problem with Gallo being included over Wilson or Landry based on how our team is currently constructed... i don't view Williams as much more than a role player but he plays his role well enough for me to think we would be OK in the perimeter shooting dept if we ever decided to deal Gallo for an upgrade in our starting rotation.

i agree Gallo's been a subject of scorn from posters ever since he was drafted... trust me dude i remember having to defend the guy on plenty of occasions when guys were in a rush to dismiss him as a busted draft pick... i know some guys have an agenda when it comes to Gallo & i agree it gets tiring to read those kinds of posts... that's why i wanted to make sure to be clear that this wasn't aimed with any agenda in mind.

i also agree i think it's ridiculous to think Denver wouldn't highly value a guy like Gallo in any trade packages, i think that's all them just trying to spite Melo & convince him that a trade to NY will never happen to call his bluff.

if we don't end up trading Gallo i'd have no problem w/that either... i just think there's a cap of expectations w/him... if we're able to upgrade in other areas then having a guy like Williams on the team would make trading him just a little less painful for me.

It's just logic that if you can get the 3pt shooting from Williams then using Gallo in a trade to get Melo is much more palatable. It's simple and logical. I love Gallo, but the logic of the argument is valid. In fact even Walker has at least stepped up to show that he's serviceable as a reserve. IF the Idea is to win a title then you want to make your team as strong as possible. I like our team as it is, but you can't assume that adding Melo to this core isn't a very big upgrade and only increases our chances.

The Danilo Gallinari homers will never admit this no matter what happens but his role and value to this team is very little. He's a small piece to the puzzle. He's what Channing Frye was for Phoenix last year as an example.

Wow, you guys need to watch Gallo more closely if that's all you got from him. As a big man with size, his ability to shoot and put the ball on the floor while driving for contact is incredible. The TS% for his size, age, experience is quite extraordinary. Don't sleep on that

Gallo just hasn't been able to put it all together, just as Will had not until about 20 games ago; if he does, and starts getting to the line 8+ times a game, watch out.

Danilo Gallinari gets to the line 5.5 times a game and is shooting 42% and 37% from three. That's incredible?

Gallo & Wilson sorta cancel each other out on most nights... i don't remember any game they both were able to put up big stats at the same time during a win... if 1 of them has a big game, usually it's the other one's game that suffers... having both of them on the same team isn't a problem obviously but if you're looking to upgrade in other areas, u'r going to need to give up at least 1 of them to do it.

TMS: Agree with you. Eventually we have to trade eitehr Chandler or Gallo. Chandler does more so I would like to hold on to him. It reminds me of the Allan HOuston, Spree days of the early 2000's. One of them needed to be traded because they played the same position and you could have used one to fill some major holes. Good post TMS. I'd hold off on this decision until next year though. No need to rush now.

Now, independent of TMS post(which I agree with)I also agree that these other anti-Gallo threads are ridiculous. We are proving we can win without Gallo. That's a good thing. Having a team win, without a major component and then having that player return is also a good thing. It just makes us a better team having more good players. Not sure why so much hate for the guy. Even if he stays exactly as he is now, and never gets better, he's still a contributing player on a good team. What's to hate??????????????????????? Do we simply hate him because he's not Dirk???????

For the record Boston is 4-1 without Kevin Garnett and 28-8 without Kendrick Perkins. Do you think their fans are running around saying "see I told you these guys aren't that good, we should trade them for expiring contracts". Or are their fans ecstatic they are winning without these guys and can't wait until they come back, and are ecstatic that the backups are performing and realize that the more good players they have, the better they are. Why do Knick fans have such a hard time understanding this concept

I just hope that people will like me

gallo is 2nd to amar'e in ft rate on the team...

shawne williams, is shooting 56% from three and a true shooting % of almost 70... suffice to say he is not going to keep that up but i hope he does.

he also turns the ball over a lot and really he provides not that many other uses beyond his shooting.

shawne shouldn't make gallo expendable....

i agree, i don't think Williams can fully replace Gallo's role on the team, but he does make the thought of trading him more palateable to me... that is the simple point here which i think many of you are misinterpreting... i don't even consider trading Gallo unless we're talking about getting back a VERY good player in return that represents an upgrade over what we already have.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
Shawne Williams makes Gallo more tradeable
