just to be clear, this is what i know:

-- his ACL is torn. how torn? not sure.
-- he probably needs surgery. though there's a chance that he won't

no idea how long he'll be out in either case. definitely has a tear in his ACL though.

too bad for gallo - sounds like he may be done for the year as those injuries take mucho time to heal. it will present an interesting scenario for those on either side of the melo to ny argument. even though the knicks give up gallo's scoring #'s each night, it will be interesting to see how the club does w gallo on the sideline. one can argue that with the upcoming schedule, it may not be a fair test as the competition is much greater, but nonetheless, we'll see what the knicks look like without him. if they still win the same amount as they did with gallo, then maybe those wanting melo have a point.

something to think about.

But we don't know the situation. That's why they have a medical staff who actually work with the players to diagnose what's going on.

It's one thing to question coaches' decisions even though we have less knowledge and information than they (we still have decent information from watching the games), but questioning medical decisions that haven't even been made yet just seems over the top.

I agree 100%. I know it's a slow news day but this is just silly.

Acl tear sounds right. The way his leg got rolled on... Like a football injury. It surgery and rehab but he will be back 100 percent with no mobility loss which is key. Well... Looks like we will get a longer look at some of these bench guys. Hopefully its not bill walker

Have you seen what Hahn has tweeted? It's never good to be the first to report negative news especially unconfirmed negative news. Always wait until it's official. I wouldn't trust Hahn as much either but just FYI

Maybe it's a mild ACL SPRAIN, not tear. Are you sure he said it was a tear, Evil?

D'Antoni is not himself in the video on Tommy D's blog. Also, how long can he play Turiaf big minutes. The guy has a bad knee, a bad shoulder and has had heart surgery.

I injured my knee about 20 years ago. And then full dislocation the following day playing racquetball.

He should rest it, and listen to the doctors.

The press is going to give D'Antoni a hard time about his rotation if they lose anyone else, like Turiaf. Not that many games before the all-star break. Maybe the last chance to know if AR and Mosgov are worth keeping. Wonder how Walsh feels about all this? Things have changed with Gallo out.

I hope Gallo is ok but this was what the Knicks released when he hurt his back in the summer of 09.

The Knicks announced only Gallinari had sustained a sore back and was not more specific. Knicks president Donnie Walsh said yesterday he can't comment on Gallinari's injury because of HIPPA laws.

However, Knicks brass believes Gallinari showed enough offensive versatility to make the rotation this season and believes he will get stronger by camp. His selection at No. 6 led directly to the club ridding itself of 2006 first-rounder Renaldo Balkman.

For the record (not that this is the most reputable site)

A mild, or grade 1, sprain simply stretches the ligament and causes pain and swelling. A moderate, or grade 2, sprain partially tears the ligament and is much more disabling. A severe, or grade 3, sprain is a complete rupture and often needs surgical repair.

All the reports say mild thus far.

i am late to the party.

here is the down low: with an ACL, it takes a Physicians Assistant about 2 minutes to confirm if you have a torn ACL. You either have one or not. eViL, double check your buddy or have him smoke some more.

That's probably with a full tear, not a tiny partial tear.

I called this during the game, after viewing a replay of the injury. An ACL sprain and I said he would be out 1-2 weeks, but it's 2-3 weeks. So I diagnosed that on the spot, don't need no fancy shmancy doctors.
