How do you do much better? How many wing guards can shoot almost 54% while avg 21 points and still pull down 8.5 rebounds with minimal TO's against the elite of the nBA? And he is asked to guard people ranging from 7-2 to 6-2 and giving you good D. At 23 years old? The *net* from trading off Chandler for Carmelo would not be very much. And obviously that would have to include 3-4 other upper tier assets leaving us capped out and void of assets for many needs.

Simply put Chandler is a keeper. He shows up to play vs elite teams. We can't say that about Gallo. To me it about keeping Chandler and dealing for Melo right now. Chandler's versatility allows him to play multiple position from sg, sf, pf. He will only compliment Melo because all Will ever does is make positive contributions.

you have to be kidding me with this.... will compliments melo? rofl.. how? melo will come here and tell chandler to get the hell out of the way, and justifiably so.. chandler will go to the bench... as we should be starting a center, and amare back at PF.. chandler is NOT A SG..!! they can guard him, but he can't guard them.. that is huge...

Mike D. Just might sit Carmelo down on the bench because you know when he gets the ball everything slows down and he ain't giving the ball up.

ha ha, so true! I can't see melo and Chandler working well together, unfortunately

The problem now is if we got Melo and give up Chandler, then who the heck plays PF? I guess we'd have to move Amar'e back there in which case who plays centre? Not Mosgov, he's not ready, Turiaf isn't good enough either and we can't rely on him with his gimpy knee. Also where would Gallo play if we managed to keep him, and had Amar'e at PF and Melo at SF? I wouldn't want Gallo as our PF. And if we gave up Fields too, then who'd play SG? There's no way we could make do with just getting Melo- if we trade for him we'd have to get more back to fill SG and C otherwise we'd be screwed, but the problem is we'd have no assets to widen the deal. people are saying they'd do a Gallo/ Chandler plus Fields (and maybe AR for a 1st rounder), but that would leave us with only 3 legit starters (whichever remained from Chandler and Gallo would have to come off the bench)- thats not really an improvement for us.

Really the fact that Mosgov, Walker and AR are so far behind where we needed them to be really messes a Melo trade.

cheers

MDA is playing Wilson at PF.

which is completely obsurb but that is a whole new thread.

i am kind of shocked (not rly) that the ny media who always feeds off of blood, has given mda a pass. they did the same for larry i-fake-my-own-death brown. what, does the coach have to be named isiah thomas for the rags to call it like it is. mda SSOL small ball is retart.

HOGWASH!!

go look back at the 3 consecutive games vs Denver, Boston and Miami, in mid december.. gallo had 16,20/,25 points respectively.. are you just making stuff up as you go along?

Hence the inconsistent part of his game.

If its between Melo and MDA see ya MDA. I highly doubt that Melo is a ball stopper not in this system all he will do is attack, attack, attack he will drop 30 ppg nightly.

Wilson can play with anyone--if we ended up getting melo--what exactly can Chandler not do that Fields and Gallo can?

If anything clear out Mosgov 3.5 Randolph 3mm and turriaf 4.9--all 3 combined arent worth 1/4 of Chandler.

I agree with you on this. Chandler has done everything asked of him and he does it well. Chandler is just the better player than Gallo. The Knicks should clear out Mozgov, Randolph and Turiaff also. They aren't MDA players and they are in the out house anyways. Turiaff see some action but nothing I would hang my hat on. 15 minutes per game back up center at best if he plays extended minutes probably gets hurt.

If we sign Melo as a FA then we would have to package Turiaf, Gallo and perhaps AR in order to have the money to sign Chandler.

If we move Turiaf and Gallo we free up app. 8.5 million. AR is another 3 million. Our salary cap with those three is 42.5 million. If Chandler takes 8.5 million to sign then that is Turiaf and Gallo. If he takes 11 + million then we need to get rid of AR too. If we don't get Melo by the FA deadline, then I would expect management to make some kind of trade centered around the previous 2 or 3.

The question is what kind of talent or pick can we get in return for Gallo and AR. Not as much as we would get for Chandler but he is showing to be the best of the bunch so we hold him. I think Turiaf (if he exercises his contract) is accepted with open arms to another team and we don't have to pay to get rid of him.

All this talk about Chan being better than Gallo seems a bit premature to me. I remember not too long ago people were saying Chan wasn't going to improve much and wasn't worth keeping. Then he starts playing well and we start winning. Let's be patient and not think in terms of day to day or month to month when it comes to these players. That's why i'm glad Donnie said his decisions will be made with the LONGTERM good of the team in mind.

Chandler can drop buckets, but so can Gallo. They're both good, but Gallo is better because he is one in a billion, chandler is only one in 500 million. Gallinari will be so awesome and Chandler is too shy.
WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

They were wrong about Lee/Amare, what if they're wrong about Melo/Chill?

Blue I couldn't agree with you more. David Lee would be great on the celtics or even Orlando, where he's just a complimentary piece (on the bench) and the defense is already anchored by a KG or D howard.

Guys who look at numbers only miss the big picture. Sometimes someones value doesn't even show up on the stat sheet. Remember Larry Johnson. He got double teamed every time he touched the ball in the post. That is invaluable, but theres no "how many times did they have double team me" stat.

Carmelo is a huge upgrade over Will as much as I like him. An upgrade that matters beyond stats and money. However, David Lee is nothing like Amare lite, whereas Will is something of a Carmelo lite. The problem is we aren't a carmelo lite away from contention. We are a Carmelo and some role players away.

Chandler is playing himself off the Knicks. Anyone have an idea of what he might be offered by another team?

Another consideration- how much does playing PF for the Knicks help or hurt his value in the eyes of other teams, since it is doubtful that he would play PF on most other teams?

MDA is playing Wilson at PF.

That's because there's no middle linebacker position in basketball. :)
