veetle is the future, easily handles heavy use hdtv streams. when someone hosts a live knicks game on it, heaven.

highly recommend veetle movie channels, its hbo/cinemax/showtime level quality.

Basically, if they offer MSG on your cable package, you will be blacked out, in my experience.

wow really? Even if you are 100s of miles away from NYC?

I'm 90% sure that's the case. If they offer MSG as part of your standard cable package, you get blacked out of Knicks games because it's looked at as competing with MSG's right to be the sole broadcaster of the games.

This sucks.

Pick a VPN service. I'm going to assume the one knickstorrents recommended is fine but I don't know. I used one in Libya because I couldn't order anything with a Libyan IP address. The VPN made it look like I was ordering from California and is secure... so it could be a cost effective way of being able to watch the Knicks and shop online with added security

I signed up this season for the first time, and have been very happy (though I should note that I do not live the NY area, so I am never blacked out for Knicks games).

The bottom line is that the thing works like it is suppsoed to. I have been a subscriber to MLB.TV for many years, and that thing is one huge headache (though it worked pretty well this past season).

My only complaint with NBA League Pass is that it does not allow you to choose which feed you get -- home team or visiting team. MLB.TV's Premium package (which is around 20 bucks more per season, and well worth it) gives you both the home and away broadcasts. But with NBA's package, I am stuck watching whichever one they decide to give (usually the home team). And trust me -- after watching some of these clowns who pass for NBA announcers, you realize just how lucky Knicks fans are to have Breen and Clyde.

For what it's worth, a number of consumer electronics companies are beginning to release their smart TVs & external upgrader boxes. My company's 2010 line of connected products support streaming of MLB TV (and other content partners) directly to our TVs and Blu-Ray players. Works well.

I'm not aware of any manufacturers that currently partner w/ NBA TV - but I'd be surprised if there weren't announcements at CES, though.

I'm looking to drop my cable service... it's just waaay too expensive at this point. Ideally, I'd love to see an NBA TV Plex or XMBC app.

I was considering this until I saw the blackout rules. Although there may be ways around it with proxy servers, etc., it didn't seem worth the trouble, especially since they don't show the playoff games.

I did cancel my cable, so I use atdhe when I want to catch a game. I think the League Pass video quality is probably better, but with all the restrictions, it isn't worth it (to me). The NBA needs to figure out how to provide their product to those of us who've cut the cable.

Yes, I meant to mention that. I was disappointed to find out that the playoffs not included. But I was stunned to see that the playoffs cost nearly as much as I'm paying for the entire regular season (I think the playoffs are an extra 70 bucks).

I can't get MSG where I live, and I cannot watch most games live, so I need to have League Pass, since I rely heavily on watching the games on demand. So for me it's still a good investment. As for on demand, the cheaper package keeps the game up for only 24 hours, while the Premium package allows you to watch the game anytime during the remainder of the season.

The video quality is really good, btw. But I think they need to improve the way you can scroll through a game. On MLB.TV you can advance to any half inning. They ought to have a way to advance to at least the start of every quarter with League Pass.

Yes, they definitely have the playoffs available. You have to pay extra. It's a totally separate package. So as far as I know, you can subscribe to the regular season only, or to the playoffs only, or to both. When I subscribed to the regular season package in early November, I was given the option to also subscribe to the playoff package, and was told that the playoffs would be 20 bucks cheaper than if I waited (they did not say when they'd raise the price). I think that deal is still going on. It would cost me $69.95 to sign up for the playoffs right now. Obviously I'll wait to at least make sure the Knicks make it, and then decide whether to subscribe.

MLV.TV seemed to include the playoffs this past season. I thought that in years past they charged extra, but I did not subscribe to the 2010 postseason and was able to watch the games anyway. And if you want to subscribe to the MLB playoffs only, it costs just $20. So the NBA is charging a lot for the playoffs. Obviously there are more NBA playoff games than MLB playoff games, but still it's a lot, especially for fans of teams that figure to last only one round.

I can't find the answer to that.

However, my educated guess says there are no blackout restrictions for the playoffs -- but that is just a guess. Aren't all playoff games on national TV these days? So wouldn't the Knicks be on ESPN or TNT, and not on MSG? If that's the case, I don't think they'd be blacked out in NY.

But I'm going to keep searching for this, because it's obviously a key question.

Just to confirm, I got League Pass online today and all Knicks games are blacked out for me (since I live in NY). So if there is a television package in your area that offers the Knicks, you will get blacked out with league pass.

As far as the playoff package question that was posed earlier, I would assume that if they make you pay for the playoffs extension, you should have access to all of the playoff games since all of them are either on national television or on NBA TV (aka it would be messed up if they made you pay for the post-season and then decided to exclude some of the games). However, as far as the Knicks are concerned, that is a good question, on whether or not they would still be blacked out due to the national coverage. That's something I would call the NBA customer service about and ask them directly because I could see them going either way with that.

Can you tell them you live somewhere else? Why don't you change your 'home' address.

Don't think it's that easy unfortunately. I mean, you can probably change your IP address or something to make it look like you are in a different location but not sure it's worth the trouble (I watch Knicks on TV anyway and just got league pass to watch other teams).

When I had it in college, I remember it went off billing address from your credit card but I don't think it still goes off of that.

You could try HotSpot Shield. It's free. The IP it gives you might let you see the Knick games on League pass. (It will display ads in your browser and slow things down as long as it's running.) Shut it down when your down so it doesn't annoy you. http://hotspotshield.com/
