Well not really. Zach Randolph was considered a bad deal until he got to Memphis.

Turkeyglue is a Point Foward that dominates the ball so he classes with PG's. Arenas is more SG than PG so they might be a nice back court tandem.

Thing is Orlando had to do something. Carter looked washed up and Lewis seemed indifferent.

I think Orlando should look to move Richardson if they get him in a trade though.

by the time Zach got to Memphis he only had a couple years left on his deal, but yes, at the time he signed his contract, it definitely qualified as 1 of the worst in the NBA right next to Vince Carter's... right now Gilbert Arenas has 4 years at $60M left on his deal & he comes with more mental baggage than just about any player in the league... how is that not considered a horrendous albatross? can he turn things around in Orlando? sure, nothing's impossible... if Michael Vick can rehabilitate his image in Philly then Arenas can do the same... but nothing about him has convinced me that he has a clue as to what the words "common sense" actually mean... he pretended to be sick so his teammate Nick Young could get some play in the Pre-season & admitted as much, right after he comes back from a year long suspension because of his other idiotic shenanigans... that tells me this guy still doesn't get it... at least Michael Vick is doing & saying all the right things ever since he got out of jail & performing at the top of his position amongst his peers... u at least have an inkling that he's changed his ways... i don't get that feeling at all out of Arenas... i still think he's a knucklehead & don't even think he cares if he's percieved as one at this point.

i do agree that Orlando needed to do something, but they're taking a HUGE risk by taking on Arenas here.

wondering if there is something up with Lewis that no one is talking about. Dude has slumped off his career averages.

maybe he's just not happy & he's making it clear w/his play on the court & demeanor behind the scenes... sometimes a change is good for the soul & he might have a resurgence playing someplace else, not that he was ever that great to begin with... i still for the life of me can't fathom how he got that contract.

Great move by the Magic. They have re-entered the top 3 of the east after they slipped a bit. The following lineup:

Howard
Bass
Turk
J Rich
Nelson and Arenas as a 6th man can compete with anyone in the the league. Nelson has to become more of a facilitator to help mesh all the offensive talent they have. Magic are right there for championship contention.

that line up looks like a bunch of overpaid players that won't mesh..What there trying to do is surround DH with a bunch of big perimeter players, but they are all slow and don't play a whole lot of D.

I have Arenas on my fantasy teams so I'm happy.

He's been playing very lethargic this year, just going through the motions. A trade like this, to an actual contender, may reawaken him.

Also, I get the feeling Magic will move Nelson as well. An Arenas/JRich backcourt is superior to Nelson/Arenas imo.

No he is just getting old. Lewis is 31 years old. He is pretty much a max salary spot up shooter at this point.

Lewis was an athletic guy ever since he came into the league.

Maybe this increases the chances of us getting Jason Williams, who'll do as a back up PG for this year (considering DW won't take on salary until he knows whats happening with Melo). Yeah, I still can't believe Orlando gave Duhon such a long term deal after his last year with us.

My take on these trades is that it's a big big gamble by the Magic as they have no exit strategy- Turkoglu and Arenas are untradable and are large, long term contracts- if Orlando struggles after this then they will also lose Dwight when his contract is up as he'll know they can't improve the team or sign anyone whilst they've got those salaries on the team. This has to work out for them, and I'm not sure if it will- both Arenas and Turkoglu look on the decline to me.

On the plus, I don't like Lewis at all and he has been on a rapid decline- same with Carter- I don't think they'll miss those two at all. I'm also pleased for Arenas and the Wizards- they both needed to part ways, and I hope Arenas can maybe turn his career around and actually enjoy playing basketball again and can move on from the gun thing- he's not really a bad guy. Wizards as a franchise had to get rid of him, just so they can start a new chapter. Also maybe Orlando's chemistry improbves- Pietrus and Gortat were both complaining for over a season about a lack of playing time. I also read Carter clashed with Dwight.

Suns made so many mistakes in the offseason- I'm not sure what their strategy is, at all, but you never know it might work out for them.

I'm interested to see how the Magic do after this trade, but it is a huge gamble that they are stuck with if it doesn't work out. Now can the Magic please give us Jason Williams as a temporary stop gap

They've acquired guys that fit their philosphy. Orlando shoots just about as many 3's as we do. Not saying I agree with the philosphy, but J Rich, Turk and Arenas are all perimeter threats and will allow them to play the 1-4 sets. Without the move, I think Orlando was the 4th best team in the east behind thye Celts, Heat and a healthy Bulls team. This trade pushes them back into the top 3 with a legit shot, although, they may have sealed thier fate because if this doesnt work, Howard will be a goner in 2 yrs.

Not good. JRich was on my fantasy team and putting up ridiculous numbers. Not sure how this will affect his stats now.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

See VC's stats. That's JRich's MAX, but he'll probably get less shots with Arenas on the team too. I think Orlando will look to move Nelson before the deadline. Maybe their plan is to play Arenas at the 2 (you don't take on his gigantic contract to have him come off the bench), but they'll soon realize that Arenas is not a good player off the ball. Plus if you thought he was bad at defending PG's, he's even worse at stopping SG's.

Nelson is easily movable, and they can likely get a PF or more depth by trading him. They have their 1, 2, 3, and 5 all set with Arenas, JRich, Hedo, and Dwight.

Not sure if you've been watching games... Brandon Bass is an absolute stud... they are good at the PF position.

I like the trade for Orlando (I think PHX gets shafted here... I guess the contracts are shorter?)

Both JRich and Hedo are absolute assassins... hell Arenas is too. Great moves for orlando.

Defensively Howard and JRich will need to step up their already decent games. I see a need for Orlando to get a lockdown perimeter defender (in the mold of thabo/matt barnes). To me that's their biggest hole right now.

Rose is not the answer.
