He is from Brooklyn but... I just think the Nets should accumulate draft picks and go the route of OKC and try to build a young exciting team in time for their arrival in BK. I doubt trading for someone and them leaving would look good for them in an upcoming move.

But now at least he'll have his $$$.

Enjoy the empty stadiums. HAHAHAHA.

All he had to do was wait until offseason and MSG would have been his (along with Amare) if all of the above is true.

If this Melo trade happens Im predicting a Gasol 2.0 trade of Chris Paul to NJ. All the pieces are in place. Hornet losing money like Memphis was. A star(Melo) in need of help like Kobe was.

David Sterns wet dream come true. A NYC cross town rivalry. Chicago, Boston, and the Heat in the playoffs.

at that point, Nets would have exhausted both their cap and assets before CP3 is even in picture.

Pau Gasol was traded for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010.

So Im guessing Chris Paul for Brook Lopez, James, Trash, and picks. Obviously the deal is trash but ESPN will spin that deal like Lopez is a franchise player and Paul DEMANDED to play with his buddy Melo.

WTF

Well let's consider the Gasol trade to LA was made by Jerry West. No GM of New Orleans played and GMed the Lakers for 30 years.

For those doubting the validity of this report.

- How hard do you think it is for Denver Management to ask Carmelo or his reps will he consent to an extension with team "X"?

- Do you believe Denver has nothing better to do then construct deals to teams Carmelo "supposedly" doesn't want to play for?

How had are you going to push for this?

You've been the one making all the Melo-related threads almost hoping he goes to the Nets so you can sit around and cry about if for the next year.

If New Jersey is offering a draft pick and Favors, we just cannot compete with that offer. So it really is up to Melo as to whether he is willing to sign an extension with NJ.

I hope this deal DOES go through because I think a long-term max contract for Melo is not what we need. I'd like to keep adding smaller pieces without attitude problems. Like someone else said, either Marc Gasol or Nene would be great signings.

Bonn1997 - The Answer Man would give Landry Fields a max deal before he gave one to Carmelo and Lala Vasquez.

I wouldn't want Melo to be a Knick unless he understands that his scoring average is not a team priority.

I guess if you are in the business of making whack-ass trades up and then tagging it with "the Pau Gasol trade happened so maybe this one can" then go for it, but mostly that's a waste of time.

There are few players to put as a franchise player these days that is going to elevate a team.

When watchiung the Suns for years did most of us not marvel at Amare's dunks and the excitement of him and nash would create? Were we not exicted when MDA came here to bring that? ANd finally it did.

I for one would not pay to just see Lopez and Melo lose games. I would assume Nets are likley giving away a lottery pick, along with Favors and one of the lower picks with cap fodder Troy Murph?

Thats way to high a price. Melo is a very very good basketball player. IM sure Brooklyn would be stoked to see an NBA franchise but one that is building somthing special. Melo is not THAT special.

Better they build a winning team than a face of franchise starphuch.

IN fact, I think Avery Johnson is not the man I want building. I'd want him on a more mature team.

The "Melo from Brooklyn" thing is crap. He was a young boy when they moved.

Im from Brooklyn and I assure you only a waterview townhouse would draw my ass back there! I love being FROM there and my memories growing up were great but we all move on. Im sure Brooklyn is great, not hating. IM just very happy were I am now.

Melo and Nuggs are going to stare each other down. Whats good for the franchise is he extends and gets traded in a bidding war. Whats good for melo is he goes to a team that is not depleted by the trade. Whats good for his bank account is he gets extended.

Nalod would think there is a 33% chance he comes to knicks. Nalod don't know a thing about his stance on the money and what he is willing to do or not.

Whats it going to be?

5 generations of wealth or 7? Cajun "Shug" Avery with that voice or Italian Pringles orchestrating the point-O-Rama offense for about what superfriends are making in Miami?

Newark for season and two thirds or Broadway? Westchester estate or Jersey Shore? Wanna live like a Rockerfeller or a Soprano?

Hopefully, he signs with NJ and we can focus on our actual areas of need, like a defensive 5 and a backup 1. Melo is a great scorer, an ok rebounder, and not much else. He will not improve the team chemistry, and may actually hinder it to some degree. He will not improve the outstanding ball movement, and may slow the game down with his ISO action. He may draw a lot of fouls, but it seems Gallo has been doing that just fine, and hitting his FTs at 80%+.

Thanks goodness for Donnie Walnuts. I'd take Melo for Curry, Gallo, Walker, 1st rounder and cash, because it would be an upgrade at the 3. No way in HELL I would include Fields. And I would want to keep Chandler to re-up using his Bird rights.

Walsh has made his best offer. Now it's a waiting game to Feb. 24th.

Agreed - Landry Fields is untouchable. He is going to be that x-factor that puts us over the top against a lot of teams and I think we've seen that early this season. Fields has been the 2nd or 3rd most clutch player on the team this year.

A defensive 5 and backup 1 help you after you get the core to go deep into the playoffs with. Melo brings that to the table. I agree that Gallo and Fields, plus a pick acquired from AR is a lot to give, so hopefully we can retain either Gallo or Fields to start at the 2 alongside Melo. Once you do that, then you spend time trying to fill the holes, but we aren't at that point yet. As long as the MLE still exists with the new CBA, we should be able to find a quality backup PG and backup PF/C who can defend in the post. Also, our first round pick may provide needed depth as well.

that's basically it in a nutshell... it's up to Melo... we are not goin to compete w/the Nets' offer by gutting our roster... if Melo wants to join a better team in NY & play for the Finals, he'll come to the Knicks... if not, much luck to him in Jersey... he'll be just another guy we will love to hate when he comes to the Garden.

I just can't see Donnie trying to match that NJ offer. He may not even try. We don't NEED Melo, tho it would be great to add him. There are other ways for this team to be improved as we've discussed. We can make smaller Deals for a PG and C and improve greatly. Melo has to decide what is more important to him.
