The Nets have received assurances from several people from Anthony's camp that he would sign an extension with the club.

The framework of the three-team trade came together on Tuesday, just two days after word leaked that Anthony would only sign an extension with New York.

According to a Yahoo! report, the Nets are confident owner Mikhail Prokhorov and Avery Johnson can convince Anthony to commit to the Nets in the long-term

I wonder if they are going to make a run at Mayo. They have to be pretty disappointed in how Outlaw and Morrow have played up to this point.

i don't really think Mayo is worth going to all this trouble for... he's pretty much on the outs in MEM anyway... for NJ to go to all this trouble, it has to be for a bigger name... it very well could be some last ditch effort for Melo, but if Melo won't re-sign w/them then why would they do it? i'm thinking maybe they plan on making a run at Iggy?

Cool. I don't care either way. I'm happy with the team and our flexibility.

He can go to the Nets and suck ass with Devin "I'm injured every year" Harris and Mr. Softy Brooke (yes, I know it's Brook) Lopez.

well, if Melo does end up on the Nets at least we can all be united in hating his guts for the next several years.

i don't get that reasoning at all... if he accepts a trade to NJ he'll in effect be getting his wish of being close to NY, being close to where his wife works & having the chance to win... add him to that NJ roster & they are legitimate contenders in the EC... if he was only in it for the $ then he would have signed that extension already.

i don't know what's so funny about that... Melo took a 17 win Denver team to the playoffs his rookie season.

they also got Camby and Nene back from injury that same season. that might've helped a bit, too.

Melo on a team with Lopez, Humphries, and Harris has a lot of potential to go far in the playoffs in my opinion. The Nets need a guy who is used to and expects to win. They also need a draw. Melo could fill both of these roles for them.

it wouldn't be bad. though every nets trade i've seen has them giving up devin harris to get melo.

and it still wouldn't be as good as felton/melo/amare.

no offense but that sounds like a Charles Barkley "Nets are a playoff team and a better team than the Knicks" prediction.

to be fair, they didn't really go anywhere with him on the team. they made it out of the first round one time.

i think melo is a good fit here... but i'm unsure about giving up the farm for him.

i honestly think brook lopez is one of the most overrated players in the league. i've never watched him play and come away impressed or thinking he will ever be an important piece on a playoff team.

and... he started 82 games on a team that went 12-70.

The Net's first concern is getting Melo. After that they can STILL trade Lopez and Harris for more help.

Example:
Melo for Favors, Murphy, and Picks
Harrington for Vujanic (I dont believe he can be in a re-packaged unless it is a one for one trade)

Nets still have Lopez, Outlaw, Harris, Petro, and Humphries plus a few picks to play with.

You never know who is made available.

dude, making the playoffs every year since he was drafted is a whole helluva lot better than 17 wins... all that w/o a stud frontcourt player like Amare playing alongside him no less... 4 of those years his team got eliminated by the Spurs or Lakers too, so it's not like they lost to scrub teams either.

we just went from being a 29 win team to now a viable contender for the playoffs for the first time in like forever & people are doing cartwheels around here, but don't think it's worth it to go after a guy like Carmelo Anthony who's taken his teams to the playoffs in a tougher conference every year... it boggles my mind.

& again, who says we have to give up the farm for him? do u really think DW is gonna do that? i don't.

I live in Denver and have seen Melo play his whole career here. But don't take my word for it. All the more astute basketball people
in Denver acknowledge that Melo can do one thing and that is score. However, he is incapable of doing ANYTHING else very well. He is
strictly a one dimensional player who has been incapable of taking his team deep into the playoffs despite numerous opportunities. The
Nuggets have had a lot more talent than the Nets have. You put him on a bad Nets team and they won't improve that much.
