Fields is not depended on too carry the team. Other draft picks are expected to carry a significant load.

Fields job is to crash the boards and sometimes contribute points.

Guys like Johnson, Cousins, Monroe, Aminu, George, Hayward, Aldrich, and Henry aren't chopped liver.

I recall the Mozgov is a lottery pick thread.

You want attention-Mosgove is a lottery pick based upon potential. Field is a lottery picked based upon performance.

I was thinking the same exact thing, Mos goes easy top 14 with his IQ, athleticism and height. Dare we bring up the competition (Thabeet)...

Further, what lotto picks are being asked to carry a team? Outside of Wall and Griffin, who else? How many rookies are having much of an impact this year, like Fields?

Fields job isn't to crash the boards, he did that of his own accord, Mike is just going along with it cause it's what he does great. But no where was it ever stated that Fields job is to crash boards. But even if it was, he is a 2G and he is leading the league there, while playing a good all around game.

Based on 22 games I'd say hes a top 5 pick.

Lets talk in 5 years and in hindsight we can then judge these guys at their prime and how they did.

Picks are like stocks, you do better when you have more picks. Once in a while you get one that really shines. And failure is also built into the mix. You are going to bomb.

Fans don't see what scouts and coaches see and we don' to be held accountable for the results.

JHill is far from a finished player in his sophmore year.

So many variable go into all this. Of course the player has a lot to with it but the team, its needs and chemistry count big.

Fields on a winning team does not crack rotation. Kid had the right game at the right time and shined!

some fans are brutal on Rautins saying we should cut him to bring in a big scrub. I don't know all the paremeters of when to label a kid a project or a bust but I'll let the process take its course.

Not every player has to be a star to be successful. Battier comes to mind. Solid career, solid talent and a solid kid when he it the league. Teams need these guys.

Fields is clearly a first round pick but top 10 pick is REACHING.

Why isn't he a top 10..this draft class as 3 starters ...that's it

Current rookie ranking on nba.com is 2-ahead of wall because wall was slowed by injury. No other rookies have cracked top 3 this year so far as i recall

I think he is going to turn out somewhat like David Lee turned out for us. From a late rd pick who found a nitch with rebounding to a consistent producer. Just keep working on that 3 and pull up.

Actually Mike does expect his guards and for that matter everyone to crash the boards. He has that mentality due to his penchant for small lineups. He's always after his players to get in there and help on the boards. He's even said so many times. The thing is that Fields is REALLY good at it. But you'll notice that as a team we get everyone involved and it's helping to keep us competitive on the boards despite not being particularly strong in that area.

fields is playing the way that evan turner SHOULD be playing. although turner was the 2nd pick and the more heralded college player, fields has adjusted much better to the nba game than turner has.

And they are the same age, actually Turner is a few months older.

I kind of agree with you. I assume the thought that he is the 8th pick is purely based on talent. But, the fact is, the Knicks got semi-blasted for even drafting Fields at all. The GM that reached like that for him would've been executed. It's fine when you get good talent at a good value, but no need to bid against yourself. This is the same reason why Isiah f'd up multiple times during the draft, when he did a massive reach to grab a few players, such as Balkman. It has nothing to do with the player, but a player not on anyone's radar for 20 or 30 slots is not really a smart strategy. Instead, it's better to maneuver and trade for a lower pick and get an additional asset.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

How are his rebound #s inflated...that's like saying Loves rebound #s are inflated....if a person puts more effort into rebounding then anybody else on the team..that's his talent,

He has no advantage over anyone on the court..so how is his #s inflated...
