OJ Mayo is a talent. The coach has had a hard on for Conley for awhile now even when Conley played like ****.

I think OJ Mayo would be a fantastic fit on this team - fantastic for a D'Antoni offense and a great fit with the team, skills wise. The only thing I don't know is how his personality would fit in here. Not sure if he'd mix with the other guys... but I think you get OJ Mayo in here and one more big, maybe Briggs' boy Jason Thompson - this is a 50+ win team.

BUT, the Knicks won't make a move until Melo moves. Not a big move, at least.

I would rather have Mayo + Wilson + Gallo + Fields on this team than ONLY Melo (under the assumption that trading for Melo costs us Gallo, Wilson, Fields and AR)

It would be nice to get both Mayo & Gasol from Memphis. Gasol is a free agent and there's a good chance he leaves. Randolf, Douglas, Walker, & Mozgov could do it at the deadline.

Pg: Felton, Mayo
Sg: Fields, Mayo
Sf: Gallo, Williams
Pf: Amare, Chandler
C: Gasol, Turiaf

That's a bad-ass squad

Mayo can't play point guard and he's too short to play most two guards. He'd be good as instant offense off the bench, but we already have a similar player in Douglas. Gasol on the other hand would be the perfect fit with his passing ability and feel for the game. But if the Rudy Gay situation was any sort of an indicator, Memphis will probably overpay to keep Gasol. Also, I think AR might be a hard sell because they already have Gay and they're stuck with Zach.

passing and feel for the game doesnt tempt me. i read on other forums gasol is fat/slow. fat/slow doesnt fit the mda system.

Being fat and a step slow didn't stop Boris Diaw from being effective in the 's system.

I like Mayo but he's not the right fit for the Knicks.

From Chad Ford's chat:

Steven (Memphis)

What's the likelihood of Randolph and Mayo being moved by the Grizz this season, considering how disappointing the start to their season has been.
Chad Ford (1:23 PM)

Both pretty likely if this continues. Michael Heisley came into the season pretty sure he had a playoff contender on his hands. He just extended Gay and Conley and he can't afford to let Marc Gasol go. And Xavier Henry's played well for them. I think Mayo and Randolph have a better than 50 percent chance of being moved by February.

"The Knicks could be involved in separate deals related to Anthony Randolph and O.J. Mayo."

Memphis Grizzles guard O.J. Mayo could be on the move soon, and a source close to his family thinks he could end up with the Knicks.“They’re gonna move him next week and I think he’s gonna end up in New York,” the source said.

Yes, but a few lines down in the same article it states:

Still, a second source close to the Knicks said he thought the Mayo acquisition was unlikely.

“I don’t think we’re gonna get him,” the second source said. “We’re playing so good, you really don’t want to mess with it. You don’t want to tinker with it too much.”

OJ Mayo would be a great 6th man here--hes young just like the rest fo the guys and proven---it would be a coup of a trade.

Definitely would be a coup if we could land him. Just hope we dont give up any assessts or money that could be used to either trade for Melo or sign him next year.

Who cares--OJ Mayo is a 20 point scorer--you know what--this team can be built to win a championship without Carmelo! If people woudl just think about it more--we have a star go to player--we ahev great complementary pieces including a PG--if we added a 6th man capable of avg 20 points--why in the world would I allocate funds for Melo----what do I need him for--we need BIGS to finish it off!!!!!!!!!!! Id much rather build a deep roster

OJ Mayo is the type of guy D'Antoni seems to succeed with. Those players being guys who dont need to be coached.

i really like OJ Mayo & wanted us to draft him as a rookie when he was in the draft & have wanted us to trade for him ever since... but i have no idea what to expect when he gets here in terms of how he'll mesh w/this head coach... trying to predict what players will get on MDA's good side is like trying to predict the lottery #'s sometimes.

D'Antoni likes players he doesnt have to coach or develop. If you can shoot then he loves you. Just ask Anthony Roberson.

I've only seen like 6 Memphis games since Mayo's been drafted. From what I've seen, he has a silky smooth jumper that he can nail as a spot-up shooter and off the dribble pullup. Outside of that, he seemed to pick his spots well and not force it like other low IQ players we have.

But the fact that a former #3 pick has fallen out of favor in Memphis makes me wonder what the warning signs are. Defense? IQ? Delusions of stardom?

if Roberson's not available i guess we can always consult Jonathan Bender, eh?

but all kidding aside, i think Mayo would make a nice fit on this team off the bench as a 6th or 7th man scorer to help spark the 2nd unit

the same thought crossed my mind too scoshin... why is he suddenly on the outs now in MEM & will any of that translate into any potential issues with MDA if he comes here?
