He is really a force around the basket. He blocks shots so easily. Really, we have not had someone who can block shots like him since Ewing. He makes stupid mistakes but is a rook. Look at some centers picked in the lottery over the last few years, he might be doing better than most. Who was the number 2 pick last year again?
As other posters have said, he needs to get the ball when open. And I don't even mean on jumpshots, he was open underneath quite often. Even if he misses the shot there is a chance he will get fouled and beyond that him scoring the occasional inside basket makes the other team have to cover him better, which opens things up for others. That is the thing, if he gets open and is not given the ball then teams will continue to sag off him. Mike needs to run some plays for him.
Speaking of Mike, the thing I really dislike about him is how he doesn't make creative adjustments that often. For example when Jamal was lighting it up, wouldn't Randolph have been good to put on him, much like Jeffries was?
He's an NBA rookie but he's in his seventh pro season. It's a bit misleading to just call his mistake rookie mistakes.
The speed and physicality of the NBA is on a whole other level. Being overzealous is a rookie mistake. The list goes on. Anyway, the point isn't regarding his mistakes, the point is we got a damn good player on our hands. Even if he mostly plays defense for now, he is a great help to have out there. I just hope we get him the ball underneath a few times. He is klutzy at times, but still fun to watch.
edit - also forgot to mention the rule changes. Look at how fast he adjusted to his moving screens. The guy clearly has a head on his shoulders as he has made many adjustments thus far.
Hasheem Thabeet #2 pick last year... Mosgov is playing like 2X as good as him...
