I only feel comfortable with three players on the Knicks as of now. Amare, Chandler and Douglas.

the roster is completely turned over and you, Kam and Berman have just stated the obvious.... that there are questions about the roster and what each can do. Awesome stuff.

great post.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Berman's Response: (which I am thankful for)

"did the boeheim story few days after the draft. he said he can be like david lee.. because he works so hard.

thanks for hte story tips. this was a different one - from what i've seen in two weeks, two weeks of scimmages and two games, they're not as good as I thought they'd be. There's a big weakness that hasn't been talked about enough - this is not a good outside shooting club. sorry if the truth hurts. i've heard 10 years of excuses that it will get better and it's the same crap year after year. i can't believe i'm now hearing the excuse - the nut4 of this column - that it will take time because of the 10 new faces. I don't want to hear that in December. this is what they wanted. New."

Pause

The Answer Man's thought bubble asks, "when does a basketball TEAM of ten new guys EVER come together in two weeks?" The dudes barely got through customs, a difference of six time zones on the authentic red eye (all my people who have made that flight raise your hands), ordering off a menu they could not read and a terror threat. What do you expect?

Berman's "they're not as good as I thought they'd be" tells me that prejudice is already in play

Or perhaps consider that to evaluate the Knicks in real time, in the moment, is a job for a basketball kung fu master.

I'm jus sayin' it's not about excuses kam77, it is about not having a pre-conceived notion based on the past

1. We are going to have problems all year with rebounding (We are going to miss David Lee) - false, Amar'e is a stud. "I got 99 problems but power forward ain't one." - JayZ
2. We are going to suffer through malik-rose type offense from Turiaf - suffer? Turiaf is NOTHING like Malik Rose, different game altogether and different position needs
3. We are going to suffer through the good and the bad with ARandolph - suffer? not me. Randolph is a standing ovation waiting to happen, why kvetch over the flaws of a 21 year old?
4. D'antoni needs to show up and put his rep on the line with his coaching acumen - coaching acumen? what the f#ck is coaching acumen? D'Antoni needs to "show up"? What does that mean in English?

Answer man, what is your high-low? How many wins for the year to be considered a success and how many for failure. We each have our own. I need them to be in the close vicinity of .500 to consider the season a success. For Briggs it's gonna take like 52. What about for you? 14? 15?

Blueseats Wants To Know If That's Entertainment

Childs2Dudley - You are taking this very personal.

Point of clarification. The purpose of starting a thread is to stimulate conversation. To be compelling. Not to be proven "right." Anyone who craves validation from a discussion group on Knicks basketball might want to go hug a kid or aging parent instead. The Answer Man is not in it for the ego, or the imaginary accolades. No my Knicks bredren, The Answer Man is "right" even when he is "wrong" because he made you think. Preferably he made you laugh. If he made the small hairs on our neck stand on edge, that's cool too. Did he get you to respond?

It's all about the ratings, baby, right?

By the way, I was corresponding with Marc Berman over a year ago, so NO I did not follow you on Isola. Thank you for the documentation of the threads. They were fun, huh?

Q. Blueseats - How many wins for the year to be considered a success and how many for failure?

A. A .500 season is a success. A playoff season is a day for celebration. 30 wins justifies for hari-kari.

Q. Blueseats - Answer man, what is your high-low?

A. Low 35. High 48. With high humidity. Take an umbrella just in case.

If we are an inconsistent shooting team and if Gallo is going to just jack up 3s 60% of the time, like last season and if we can't rebound then Berman is right, and I do say "right" reluctantly. We HAVE to attack the basket consistently if we're going to be a good team and we HAVE to be competitive on the boards as well. It's the number 1 way of initiating the fast break in the first place.

With that said, I'm with you on your thoughts on Berman, Misterearl. He's way too unprofessional for my taste.

Third Person Headline Attempts To Deflect Critique

Was it something I said?: Writer defends column

- By MARC BERMAN

"Is it something I said?

My Saturday column - as honest as anything I've written since July 1st - depicted my disappointment how ordinary the Knicks have looked in two weeks of scrimmages and two games in Europe. I was surprised how quickly the excuses about needing time for the 10 new faces to jell were flowing like the red wine in Milan.

The column generated mostly outrage - and namecalling regarding my figure (the camera puts on 10-15 pounds). My online readers are apparently buying fully into the theory. God bless you guys and girls. You've been fed so many lines before and you keep believing. It's almost sweet."

Fact: Everyone looks ordinary during the first week of pre season.

What Berman fails to recognize is the gradual demise of print journalism. The online community is climbing over the walls and changing the way the traditional one way conversation over sports has taken place in low quality newspapers like the NYPost. Through the years the Post sports section was a dependable source of sports snips. That is also changing.

Has anybody seen homeboy djsu (live from section 404) lately?

And can we please dispense with the gnashing of teeth over Ray Felton?

Berman is both Boring and tedious.

But lets try to understand also that most around here saw at least one of the games and the 2hour practice snooze fest and its clear that with 10 new faces the complextion of the team is vasty different and it will take a few weeks to come together.

Then Berman, who is really for the masses ( the more causual fan) writes a redundant comment which is kinda obvious but it seems like he is just a negative for the sake of creating an article of interest.

Earl, berman is doing the same thing you claim to be doing. Negative rsponse or positive he doesn't care. He just wants to create a buzz and to cuase discussion related to his articles. The more people respond the more he is able to justify his existence.

I find that berman no longer upsets me because I don't read him. You guys claim to hate him and yet read him everday. In reality you don't hate him. YOU LOVE HIM. You love his writing so much that you reead everday just so you can come on here to discuss it. You just don't realize that's what yo are doing

Berman will not stop because he knows the wise old answer man, and people like him will be back tomorrow to read again

I just hope that people will like me

bip - there is no hate or love. Everyone knows it's all about the ratings, and writing to Berman directly is much different than bitching and moaning about him behind his back.

The Answer Man believes (almost) anything can be fixed and seeks truth, justice, the American Way and better journalism. The eMail was neither the move of a hater OR a lover.

It was a heartfelt critique to a guy who gets paid to do a job each of us would do for free just for the seat location.

Based on the fact that Berman felt compelled to respond in his column means that it just may have hit home, no matter how casually he wants to respond. I'll continue to read the Post in the same way I watch Fox News because one must remain vigilant when mediocre (and bad) men are at work. If Berman's writing about our beloved Knicks improves just one stinkin' centimeter the world will be a better place.

My work here is done.

Somewhere out there a fourth grader is writing a blog. He's saying things like "knicks suck, heat rules". I don't read this blog because it is a horrible blog that provides me with no real information, insight or entertainment. Berman is no different to me. There are plenty of other writers that do provide me with what I need so why do I need to read berman? To make money for the post?

Which method would change berman the quickest

1-everyone reading his articles everday, discussing and arguing whether berman is a jerk or just being honest everyday. People posting his name inmessage boards and forums everyday talking about howw much they hated his article that day. Marketing his blog by attaching a link to the very article they claim to hate.

2-everyone just stops reading.

Its funny, I see his name attached to an article and I assume its about stephon marbury so I skip it. The only time I ever read berman is when someone here writes about how bad his article was that day. You guys are giving him free advertising.
