Not dealing for Melo will set the team back another 4-5 years.

I don't think so. I really have a good feeling about how this roster is gonna work out. Not to mention that we will still have the cap space to improve after this year. Heck we might even get something done at the trade deadline. In any event, I think we'll be in good shape regardless of whether we get Melo or not. This is just a totally different situation. Without him I think this is still a playoff team. I think our only play is to hope he's serious about wanting to play here and that we get him after the season. I don't see how we could make a trade happen.

The idea that losing out on him would set us back 4-5 years seems way overstated. Are you of the opinion that this is a title team if we added Melo? I'm not so sure how good the team would be and just what we'd be able to do to add to the core of Felton, Amar'e, Melo and whatever would be left after a trade. I'd prefer to wait and see how things develop. We'd still have all of our young talent and the cap space & future Picks. That should be enough to find ways to improve the team in the future.

I agree with Nixluva- I think a lot of people are suffering from post-lebron traumatic stress, and they're desperate to add Carmelo to make up for Lebron not signing this offseason. Carmelo is a great player, but he isn't at the same level as Lebron so the stakes aren't as high. With Carmelo you get less defense, and poorer work ethic and more injuries. Yes Carmelo would improve us, but my worry with him is that up until now he's been able to get away with coming to camp out of shape, and not trying to raise his game in the offseason, however he is now reaching the age where he'll start to pay for that if he doesn't change his ways- he'll get fatter and suffer much more serious injuries.

If we don't get Carmelo, yes it's a set back, but it's not a franchise killer, like not getting Lebron almost was (the Golden State trade really saved us from absolute disaster, as did Atlanta saving us from giving Joe Johnson a ridiculous contract!). If he goes else where, we could start looking at players like Marc Gasol- would Memphis be willing to pay a near max contract for him after already breaking the bank to sign Rudy Gay? If they do then that makes OJ Mayo more available- there's no way they'll pay for both those players. And remember if we trade for Carmelo then you are having to give up Gallo or AR or Chandler, so the net talent gain isn't as good. In my opinion, our current squad plus Marc Gasol or OJ Mayo, would be better than our current squad plus Carmelo but minus AR, Gallo and/or Chandler etc.

Not drafting Jennings when we have more Italian contacts than anyone set us back ___________ years.

You could go on and on with this franchise.

Curry should just be told to stay home at this point. Mozgov shows up before him and he just finished a FIBA tour of duty. That's pretty sad.

I thought I saw Curry in the Colts game on Sunday night, but I guess that was just Brandon Jacobs.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I do believe that this is a possible title team if Melo is added. There is no doubt in my mind that if Melo is on the team the Knicks will make it to the finals or be in the contention for it as an elite team on a yearly basis just as the team was with Ewing. If he comes here before the season starts great, at trade deadline great, if Melo comes here as a FA it would be ideal. But he has to be on the Knicks.

There are top 5 talented players but none are available to the Knicks. LBJ, Wade are locked up for 6 year. Kobe isn't going anywhere. Durant isn't going anywhere. That leaves Melo you got to get him on the Knicks by hook or crook. If that means giving up Gallo and AR you do it in a heartbeat. You will win more battles with Melo and Amare together than with Gallo, AR and Amare.

If you let Melo go to Nets, Bulls or Orlando you create a team that you have to hurdle. If the Nets get him they are in the mix for the playoffs now. It would be devastating if the Knicks didn't get Melo. I'm not saying the Knicks won't go to the playoffs. I do know that even thinking championship is out of the question.

Ok if you feel he's the piece that puts this team in title contention, that's fine, but how do we get him? It seems to me that Denver is gonna have some pretty enticing offers from NJ and maybe even Houston. How do we get them to take our less attractive offer? It's no lock that we can depend on Melo to force their hands. Tho I can't really see him preferring the Nets over the Knicks, it plausible that he could feel like that's close enough, with the Brooklyn move looming.

This is the deal I would offer. Gallo, AR, Curry. Two future top five protected picks and two GS second round picks.

If Carmelo Anthony wants to be a Knick..he'll be a Knick. He can wait the season out, risk his $65 M and sign with us.

If Carmelo simply wants to go to another team and sign an extension

a) we either can't compete with the best offer
b) we'd have to give up the farm for him..which might not be the greatest idea.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

I will risk the farm for him. I'll ask you how often have the Knicks had a top five talent on their team? Get Amare and Melo together and the rest will fall into place for the Knicks. This is as close to getting Ewing with Bernard King which never came to fruition.

Eddy with a Y!

NO much more to say. One more contract year then its over.

We are coming thru the other side with some hope, an in prime superstar and some yoots to grow.

Eddy is an expiring.

Eddy is gonna be broke.

Eddy was a talent and a gamble. We lose.

I hope Eddy does not turn into a sad sad story of a man gone broke and dies young.

Yes, we've all seen Curry barrel into two defenders, never looking to pass, and get whistled for the offensive foul.

He has almost 3 years of rust on him, so even if he comes into "shape," there's a good chance whatever skills he had is completely gone and he'd only stagnate our offense. Plus being "in shape" is not the same as "NBA game shape." Can Curry realistically run up and down the court at D'Antoni's level without being winded after 2 minutes?

I dunno about top 5. Maybe top 10. (if you ask for a list ye shall receive)

Without draft picks, young prospects, or cap space..I don;t know exactly what

Felton
?
Melo
Amare
?

gets you..

I think we can both agree

FA Melo >>>>>>>>>> Melo we have to trade for

by the way I'm not even sure Denver takes your offer.

If Melo says I won't sign an extension with anyone other than the Knicks couldn't we hypothetically
tell Denver..we'll offer you whatever crap makes the salaries map and they have to choose between that and nothing?

Denver has already indicated they would not accept what the NYK can offer because our first pick would have to be 2014, which is too far out for them from a rebuild perspective. It's possible they have bought into the ridiculous notion that Gallo and AR have limited upside. If so, phuck em then. Rookie GM can bite our nut sacks if he doesn't know the kind of potential Gallo and AR have.

Good thing Walsh won't even offer those two guys. If he feels pressure to make an offer, the most we should expect would be Gallo + Curry +$3mil +2014 pick. Compared with Houston and NJ, that's bubkis to Denver. So they will either accept our crap deal (i.e., substitute Wilson for Gallo in the above deal) or lose Melo for nada and set us up for a sweet FA signing.

I really hope it goes down like that and feel it's not too far fetched.

This deal falls into the "Zeke Zone". You're trying to overwhelm the Nuggets, make them an offer they can't refuse. The bottom line here is that you're bidding against yourself. Patience, the only thing we have that won't gut this team, is in short supply.

Zeke zone. I'm not trading for Curry. I'm trading for a top player in the NBA. You talking a top 5 player. You can be overly patient and lose out. Players like Melo don't come in the market to often.

Top 5 at his position, but he's not top 5 overall..with the centers we have in this league today, Curry is a bonus at 80%...
