really? how much money does that agent get when he signs? Wonder who's being pushy.

If the Knicks find a way to lose out on Melo its going to be a sad day in the franchise history. Relying on the unknown for a sure thing is not the way to go. You have Amare and he has and NBA shelf life you build around him ASAP and get it going. There isn't much time to waste as NBA windows of opportunity close in a hurry. Like I said before I think everyone would like to see the young players that we have currently. But when they are kicking on all cylinders Amare will be winding down in his run. That is why it is imperative to get Melo to go along with Felton and Amare. If the Knicks can manage to keep AR or Gallo that will be a plus no doubt. Panic moves need not be made as waiting Denver out is the way to go. AS the trade deadline approaches Denver will have their hands tied and will probably settle for a lot less.

i completely agree... our window of opportunity is limited... we have a star bigman in Amare, now is the time to go for it... i don't wanna waste even 1 year of opportunity... as long as it doesn't entail gutting the entire roster, i think u have to make a play to get Melo to NY this season... if there's no other way but to gut the roster of every good prospect we have, then we have no real choice but to wait, but Donnie should at least be trying to get a deal done & MUST be willing to put together a package centering on either AR or Gallo... to hold both those guys off the table in negotiations is not giving us any realistic shot at attaining any star player, Melo or otherwise.

Briggs - I realize you have some serious wood for Gallo and Randolph but lets not forget that Gallo missed almost his entire rookie season with a bad back and Randolph missed a LARGE portion of last year with a bad ankle. Not knocking those guys just saying that Melo is a STUD and players do get injured. Melo isn't fat either --- he is just a big man who is actually in outstanding shape.

Melo has earned what he has coming by leading a once down trodden Nuggets franchise to seven straight playoff appearances. He may not be Lebron, Wade or Jordan but he's an outstanding player.

I'm not worried about the Knicks overpaying for Melo but we should be hoping he's forcing his way out --- hey if you have the leverage why not. It's not like any team gives a rats arss about any players once they've served their purpose to the franchise.

not so sure about that.. Briggs has been very critical of gallo, now he has always been high on AR...

Ive put Gallo on untouchable status for months now.

oh, I know that, but I was just commenting more in your defense. I was basically trying to tell him that you wanted to keep gallo as a building piece with potential and not some long love affair you had with him...

Not really--I know what they want and I don't trust Melo physically--especially in NY. He wants 25mm and does not care what we haev to give up to get him--enough said---pass--let him play for the Rockets if he cant be patient. We will be good then great if we just continue on course.

While our window of opportunity with Amare might be limited, we're not all in- that is, if Amare breaks down, we still have some flexibility in terms of letting youth develop and our own picks (sometime soon, right) that we're not completely messed up for five years.

A panic trade for Melo, when we could have him for zero next year, does potentially put us into a five year, all in scenario with little way to improve besides the MLE and hoping to get a player in the second round, late first.

There will be plenty of ways to improve. When you have guys like Melo and Amare, players want to come play with them. We will get Tony Parker next, who isn't Paul or D. Williams, but is still a winner and an all-star point guard in his prime. Then we will continue to get very good value for the mid level each year. You will always get better as long as you have players like these guys. Look at how long Boston is prolonging it's team, despite most guys being past their primes. They will still be good for the next 2 years. Same will occur in miami. If we get all these guys, we will have a strong 5 year window, but will likely turn it into 7 or 8 years.

Dont base everything on what the Cs did. The Miami Heat will haev superior top 3 no matter what any team does. What will happen is we will lose all assets all cap space with no max ending contracts anytime soon. We will have the MLE to improve-- what did BT Barnum say--there is a scker born every minute--believe me--this is a scker play. It would come down to a scenario where we would be paying almost as much for Miami s big 3 as our 2--ONE injury--we are done for years up on years. ONE injury wrecks a season--its just to thin. Im sure A Parker is going to take an MLE when he can get 10mm$ per--just no common sense--no reality to this line of thinking. By the way Carmelo is NOT even close--not close in his wildest dreams to being as effective as Randolph gallinari and Chandler collectively. Heck I honestly believe Gallo alone will show to be better than carmelo in 2 years-- we could be giving up superior players!!!!! Insanity

Interesting that the new GM hasn't had a sit down with Melo yet, wonder why not? Its been more than a week.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Ap5eYWam_0_NMbFHmZsn.OO8vLYF?slug=mc-anthonywish090810

Carmelo Anthony(notes) still hopes to persuade the Denver Nuggets to trade him, preferably to either the Chicago Bulls or New York Knicks, an NBA source with knowledge of Anthony’s wishes told Yahoo! Sports.

The Knicks have limited assets to offer the Nuggets, which makes the Bulls a more appealing potential trade partner. The Bulls can offer a replacement small forward in Luol Deng(notes), as well as two young forwards in James Johnson(notes) and Taj Gibson(notes). New York officials would like to make a run at signing Anthony next summer if he were to opt to become a free agent. The Knicks will have salary-cap room with Eddy Curry’s(notes) contract expiring after the season.
More From Marc J. Spears

While Anthony would prefer a trade to either the Bulls or Knicks, he knows the Nuggets could decide to send him elsewhere. Yahoo! Sports has previously reported that the Los Angeles Clippers, New Jersey Nets and Houston Rockets have expressed interest in Anthony.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony a three-year, $65 million contract extension, but Anthony is reluctant to sign the deal because of concerns about the franchise’s future. Coach George Karl is returning from his second battle with cancer and entering the final year of his contract. Forward Kenyon Martin(notes) and guards J.R. Smith(notes) and Arron Afflalo(notes) will be free agents after this season and center Nene could join them if he opts out of the final year of his contract. Point guard Chauncey Billups(notes) also could hit the market because the Nuggets are obligated to pay only $3.7 million of his $14.2 million salary for 2011-12 if he’s waived at the end of the season.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the Nuggets, Anthony would like to be traded before the season starts. New Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri has not had a face-to-face meeting with Anthony since he was hired on Aug. 31.

That line should read: The Bulls can offer a replacement small forward in Luol Deng who has 4 years remaining on a god-awful contract that starts at $11.3M and ends at a salary cap killing $14.M for a player who misses 20 or more games every other season.

I love how apparantly every other team's young players are better than ours according to all these articles- really James Johnson and Taj Gibson are more desirable by far than Gallo, Chandler, Bill Walker, Tony Douglas and Anthony Randolph? Really? And how come before this offseason all the writers were saying Lou Dengs contract was a killer (he gets 14mil in his last year), but suddenly in discussions about Lebron and Carmelo, it's a great trading asset?

Denver has been pumping out a load of bulls*** over the past few weeks- I'm sorry, but if the GM still hasn't spoken to Carmelo, then he obviously made it loud and clear at the meeting with the owner last month, that he has no intention of signing an extension. The fact that Denver spent the past few weeks releasing info that he was going to be traded to the Twolves, Nets or Clippers, would indicate that he has told them he wants a trade to the Knicks only, and they're trying to pressure him into widening his list- i think they want to ship him to Houston as they can offer the best package. Stephen A Smith, I also believe, so taking that into account, Carmelo's obviously made it clear to the Knicks he wants them to trade for him, however Denver has decided that if they ignore the Knicks then he'll have to widen his list of teams- Carmelo only weakens himself by letting them believe he can be persuaded to accept other teams.

Carmelo can't force a trade to us if he entertains the notion of accepting a move to another team, and since Denver don't want to deal with us, I'd say Gallo and AR are safe. Carmelo can get as impatient with us as he likes- the fact is we can't trade with Denver if they have decided to blank us and force him to widen his list of teams.

smackeddog - i agree about the rating of other team's players over ours. personally, i think this is spin doctoring by denver's front office, the bulls or one of the other teams interested in melo (nets, rockets). who wants deng's contract? hardly anyone, i think.

Why can't he force a trade, all he has to do is learn from mister "i woun't resign with the timberwolves" David Lee. I think Melo doesn't want the Knicks to give up the farm for him either, that would be counterproductive to him being successful in NY. Imho there are 2 possible outcomes, if Melo really does want to play in NY. 1) We get him for a bag of peanuts + Eddy Curry. 2) He straight up signs with us next summer. I don't think Walsh will blow his load here.

Can someone get a stick posted Subject: Melo just so there's not 8 diff Melo threads?

Like what Marc Stein wrote about looking at how Melo would fit in with a team's long term vision.

4. Even if the Nuggets can eventually be sold on the idea of taking back a trade package headlined by Noah and Luol Deng -- which is debatable in itself unless the draft picks included were so irresistible or the Bulls landed a suddenly durable Nene as well – Chicago simply can’t afford to add Noah to a potential Melo offer.

Not after the long-term investments that the Bulls made this offseason on Carlos Boozer and Tom Thibodeau.

Boozer needs a long, defensive-minded center as a sidekick to truly flourish. Thibodeau needs a Kevin Garnett-style anchor on D in his first head-coaching gig like he had in Boston with KG as the Celtics’ defensive coordinator.

And Noah not only fills both of those roles but would be incredibly hard to replace. Especially if the would-be primary Noah replacement is a scoring machine who plays small forward.

When it comes to fit alongside the new power forward and the new coach, Melo isn’t at Noah’s level.

Let's try to elevate the level of discourse in this byeetch. Please

The Nets can't give 3 #1's- you can't trade your #1 two straight years. They can send their own plus Golden States, however Golden states is protected pretty well (top 7 protected for the next two years, then top 6 protected, then after that it becomes 2 second round picks- if only isiah had thought of such things).

No doubt, if we can use Curry's deal, Gallo and the 2014 first rounder, we do it now. Otherwise, we wait. Simple.

I dont want Melo--he's forcing the issue and I believe SAS who has tremendous credibility--more than any other journalist
