Amare @ 20 and Carmelo @ 23 is a losing proposition. No team can pay any two guys like that unless they were able to move their payroll to 100mm$ and we would not be able to do that for years--way to late for it to mean anything. On top of which we have 0 idea what the new CBB will be--could be worse.

I think the cap space next year could yield a bevy of new talent--doesnt mean it has to be max player or star--not does the *BIG3* concept mean much--in NBA history really very little. I think out of the combo of AR Gallo an Chandler people will be very surprised at the combination of their production collectively. I really believe unless you are talking Shaq in prime Kobe etc.. that a team concept is the way to go.

You can see the obvious posturing in the media by th Nuggets. I still cannot believe or understand some knick fans that they dont understand once we get Carmelo--that is it--and the reason why Denver is posturing is because they want every frikin young asset we have---they dont want gallo(nor would i give him up)theyre going to want ar gallo and chandler--ALL OF THEM.

briggs, amar'e is not make $20 mil this year, unless i'm way off.

hoopshype has him at 16.8, but i DO believe down the road, with the right pieces, we may very well be again at the top of the payroll.

paying big name players a lot is not a problem. it's when you overpay guys who aren't worth it and aren't even that good, and you don't have the pieces when it matters.

there are other variables, but who has the top 5 payrolls in the nba...

the lakers, orlando, dallas, denver

this year means nothing

if amare signed 5 years 99mm--and his salary this year is 17--we owe him 82 over 4 or roughly 21mm per. If Carmelo signed for roughly 22m per--that is 43mm for 2 players for the next 3 years-- with all of our assets gone picks / young players it will be literally impossible to improve in those 3 years--we dont have ending contracts to trade out to increase cap or cap space or good 1's etc.. only the MLE--if that remains. People dont see the light on this 1--they just think Caremlo and that is it.
One injury and were in the lottery again with no pick. with a team FULL of talent--we can sustain injury like Portland has

i happen to think melo is an amazing talent that would be a monster for us, with amar'e?

players at the end of their career looking to win will want to join.

that's the thing when you have stars. someone else will be willing to sacrifice to play with them to not only win, but up their own value in the marketplace.

young players might also be interested because it can have the same effect.

look at how rondo's career has taken off. not that he doesn't deserve credit, ariza got PAID because of the lakers. we like turiaf, partially because he was on a winning laker team.

being in a circumstance that can help your career and feeling is very important, i think.

if we have melo and amar'e, we are a major destination for 3-5 years, and a contender.

I mean to have him here this year--Id give them Chandler GS 2s and our 2014 #1 +3mm in cash IF Carmelo accepts the SAME deal LBJ and Bosh took 6 years 100mm next year.

Not a F dime more to me ar and gallo are off the table in any discussion absolute deal breaker--even straight up. I will pass on carmelo for either of those two players.
Why becasue if we do nothing well go to FA and get even better--acquiring melo is just one avenue--if it s not going to work at our cost--then move on.

Its funny reading the other boards like the Nets Kings etc.. the same thing applies--the fans who are really thinking about it dont want to clear the ship with prospects and pay melo 22mm. People understand that Melo and a few other players have NO chance at winning championships in this league--why because he could not do it with a stacked team already. Once you take that move--you are stuck with it and capped to heck. There are alwasy going to be a bunch of fans who just see the big name and thats it--cannot think outside the box at how we improve the team and just how much we ahev to give up

melo costs the following---future cap space for atleast 4 years it will cost us ATLEAST Chandler Gallo likely Fields the next #1 pick we can give(probably with no protection) and the rest of any good 2's I just dont think a team in our position can have 2 20mm $ players with no way to get ending contracts no picks you only have the MLE to improve. One major injury and your are done like Orlando was when they got T mac and Grant Hill for YEARS and YEARS.

even if either Gallo or AR ever turns out to be as good as Melo, you're going to be looking at having to extend those guys to lucrative contracts themselves... so how does that change matters? you'd still have 2 guys taking up the bulk of the cap & having to deal with dolling out the rest to the support players... do you really think teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder are worried about how they'll be able to manage after Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook end up getting contract extensions? & they're in a small market at that... this entire line of reasoning is ass backwards, & i don't say that to offend... it just doesn't make sense how people around here could possibly advocate trading away assets to clear cap space & yet not willing to trade away assets to acquire a living, breathing superstar player in his prime.

Now they're saying that the Nuggets intend to trade him to the Nets, Kings or Wolves- ha! I'm sorry but there is no way in hell that Carmelo ever re-signs with Sacramento or the Wolves- two of the worst locations and both of which are bad teams that would have to give up their young talent to get him. This is more of Denvers posturing, I think they've put this out there to send a message to him- either widen your list of teams so we can get a good deal or we will send you to the worst teams we can concieve of. I think they're over estimating their bargaining position (see Toronto last season).

If you notice from these articles the past week, all of the ones that are coming from "sources close to Carmelo" are saying he wants to go to the Knicks. All of the other ones claiming that he wants to go to a wide range of other teams are always coming from "sources close to the situation". I think it's absically just Denver making up that he has interest in other teams- especially that Yahoo piece that claimed the Nuggets stood up to his management company and they backed down- absolute BS! teams have little to no leverage to stand up to agents, and only Denver would have any interest in making up such a story.

Mind you, if there's one GM who is stupid enough to trade for Carmelo without his prior agreement to sign an extension or even willingness to play for them, its Kahn! Plus it fts in with his criteria of attempting to screw over his former Mentor, Donnie at every opportunity.

All these rumours aside, what has been worrying me is that Carmelo still doesn't seem to be in proper training mode yet- I think he went his honeymoon first, then visited a few more places, now he's in China doing a film. I wouldn't be suprised if when the season starts he's over weight and out of shape.

TMS--if Chandler Gallo and AR turn out as good as I think they are---moving up payroll is fine--its a natural progression and we can control it as we own their rights. If they feel that they want to move Chandler at this deadline for picks or assets if they feel he's not the right piece or wait and S+T or even extend--we will see. But this team has horses that need to play together--maybe we get Carmelo Anthony next year for free in terms of FA --if we can get him giving away NOTHING and for the same price as LBJ got--that is the best avenue--that is my first choice. That way we keep our horses and can enhance the team.

that's not a good reason to trade them... the fact that they will be our talent makes it that much better.... And who knows maybe they give us a hometown discount like dirk does the mavs... what I do know for sure is guys like melo want every max penny they can get. In the end, anyone comming to NY, it is about the dollars, yea, I am sure they want to play here, but it is always about the dollars...

do you really think teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder are worried about how they'll be able to manage after Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook end up getting contract extensions?

And neither are they worried about trying to trade them everytime some Big name player says he wants to leave his team..... As knick fans we have to get out of that line of thinking... At some point we are going to have to develop something of our own.. listen to GM's around the league.. steve kerr made a great point.. You want to get Good fA's when you can, but developing good young talent on cheap rookie deals is paramount to building a good team...

I am inclined to agree that homegrown talent is the best way to win. That said, I have reservations that Gallo will be as good as Dirk, or that Gallo and AR will be on par with Durant and Westbrook.

I wouldn't trade both for Melo, but I would trade one and Chandler. And I'd prefer to hold onto Gallo.

I hope it blows over and it's not the big topic until next year when he's a free agent.

Thats what I agree with--lets play out the year. Maybe we can look @ the deadline--lets see where we are after 40 games at a minimum.

And if we're right about how good Gallo AR and Will are going to look after 40 games, then we wouldn't have to give up as much in a trade (or a sign and trade at the end of the year)
