Regardless we need to make Denver an offer they cant refuse before the start of the season. Randolph, Gallo, Curry, and a future pick for Carmelo and JR Smith. We would have Carmelo's bird rights plus we'd be able keep Chandler.

you are channeling Isiah

You love busting my balls man.

You have to give to get. Carmelo is only 26 and his game isnt built around athleticism. Carmelo is a high skill guy. He makes us contenders in the East with his superior scoring alone. Obviously we'd need an upgrade at the PG spot and SG spots but a core of Amare and Anthony would be sweet.

You don't have to give in this situation. Melo is UFA this summer. He wants to be in NY. We will get him if we stay patient.

not only would we not give up the likes of Gallo, AR, Chandler whatever combo, he wont be signed to a ridiculous 3 year $65M contract. $20M per? When Bosh, LeDouche, Wade are starting at $14.5?

Right--the guy doesnt care who is traded--he would be in NY getting HIS 25MM + Endorsements--the same guy who has missed a number of games the last 2 seasons. Once he starts to partying down in NY with his girl--with his body type--he could be Antonie walker in two years. We have lean young very talented players--Im not giving up any of them.

I think Melo would welcome a TRADE to NY. If it comes down to signing out right I think we'd have competition from the Nets, Clips, and Bulls.

I just dont think we can wait until summer. If Gallo and Randolph dont excel we are SCREWED.

Oh and LOL at anyone who thinks Carmelo is taking anything less than his MAX salary. Melo cares about winning but that $$$ comes first.

This is probably his last max contract so yes he probably wants to go for it. Walsh doesn't have a track record (as far as I know) of
panicking so the next few months should be interesting to see who blinks first.

Dude traded our lottery pick and Jefferies and a future pick and swap for cap space. Trading Gallo and Randolph doesnt seem that bad for Carmelo.

Just a thought.

If we cave in and give a top end deal--we wont win anyway--so what is the point? If we dont get Carmelo for some reason---this team is going to be good regardless. I'm not willing to sell the ship for one player.

You're preaching to the choir... just wonder if Anthony understands that teamwise it is better for him if he comes to the Knicks as a FA rather than through a trade.

wow, really?

so that deal was worse than gallo and randolph for melo?

that cap space netted us amar'e and puts us in a position to perhaps sign melo outright next summer.

not saying that was a great deal, but it wasn't exactly disastrous.

If he gets his 25mm for 5 endorsements next to his wife on TV--do you think he cares who is on the Knicks or if they even win big--they would be decent----that is all

I think some forget that Lebron James was S&T'd to Miami after taking less money and Miami parted with future picks.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers made sure they got something back for LeBron James.

After losing the superstar free agent to Miami, the Cavaliers worked out a deal with the Heat, acquiring two future first-round draft picks and two second-round picks.

Cleveland gets two of the Heat's first-round picks, starting no earlier than 2013 and perhaps continuing through 2017. They also received the Heat's 2012 second-round pick from New Orleans and a future second-round pick the Heat acquired from Oklahoma City.

The Cavaliers can also swap first-round picks in 2012 with the Heat. Cleveland picked up a trade exception that could be worth up to $16 million.

By agreeing to a sign and trade, James technically signed with Cleveland and was dealt to the Heat. It allowed James to receive more money and the extra sixth year on his contract that only the Cavaliers could offer him.

Likewise, forward Chris Bosh was sent to the Heat in a separate sign and trade with the Toronto Raptors. Both James and Bosh signed six-year deals worth $110.1 million, according to ESPN. Dwyane Wade re-signed with the Heat for $107.5 million for six years. James took about $14.5 million less than he could have made, according to ESPN.

James, Bosh and Wade have early termination clauses in their contracts, allowing them to become free agents again in the summer of 2014. The final season on all three deals, for 2015-16, is a player option, according to ESPN.

They all got 6 yr deals. I dont expect Melo to take less. The current CBA can still be extended 1 extra year. If that happens Melo can opt out and get 6 years at max money.

For what it is worth, the Scheme Team set a kind of precedent when each of them took less than they might have made elsewhere to join up with the Heat. Bosh was hesitant to do so, if I recall correctly, but did it in the end.

I'll keep Gallo and Randolph. With that cap space next year, there will be plenty of opportunities. Not just getting Melo. I welcome Melo, but I'd rather him come in addition to our current core of Amare/Gallo/Randolph rather than in replacement of those guys.

mostly i think you missed one point. If Melo does a sign and trade during the season it will be with a 3 year extension that Denver has offered. Not 6 years.

So you have just boxed yourself in arguement-wise.

They also signed shorter deals while Melo took max years. Melo wants that guaranteed $$$$$$ like Joe Johnson.

Uh no I didnt. Any team who trades for him will want a guarantee he stays. If Carmelo or his agent gives his word that he will resign then I dont see the problem. Leon Rose is a big time agent with alot of big time clients. I dont see him telling bold face lies to a teams front office.

I wouldn't call that panicking. Walsh's goal from day one was to clear enough cap space to land Lebron or another (possibly two)
max player. It may turn out to be a bad move but I wouldn't call it a panicking.

I understand those who dont want to trade Gallo and Randolph for Carmelo. The thing is Carmelo is a closer and can turn it up in crunch time and is CONSISTENT. I didnt want to trade Gallo and Randolph either because I was caught up in the this summers free agent class.

The thing is if we acquire Carmelo we'd have the 2nd best PF and 2nd best SF in the conference and that is too good to pass up.

Second best pf. We have the best in the conference.
