Sharp shooting, tough defender, rebounds and has speed and athletic ability the equal of a guy like JR. He's just not a nut. He plays under control and I think with more minutes he'll be just as efficient. There's something to be said about mature, well adjusted and smart players filling up your roster. That's what Mike had in PHX and what he and Donnie have tried to do here. Just look at the players we've brought in and they not only have talent, but they have their heads screwed on right too. NO MORE DRAMA!

There is a reason Azuibuke was thrown into the deal. The guy is an ok role player. He isnt a sharp shooter. He is a good spot up shooter. Problem is we dont have Nash running the point here.

Smith antics are much worse than the previous 'bad apples' that were a part of the drama in the past. He wouldn't fit with the coach.

I don't want JR Smith on the team, and think a healthy Azubuike is a much better fit, especially chemistry wise, but he is a big question mark- I think it was either Weber or D'Antoni who said on KNL that Azubuike was a "last minute throw in" in the AR trade, and thats how they were looking at it. I think a lot of people, myself included, are really downplaying the severity of his injury- from whats come out so far, we know it was a serious injury to begin with, we also know that he's healing more slowly than anticipated, and I think he had further surgery to help relieve the tendinitis in the knee during the summer.

The fact that Golden State was willing to trade him and that he's viewed as a last minute throw in, may indicate that the Warriors were not optimistic- I know Azubuike said his knee is great, but most players say that when asked about rehab. He still doesn't seem to have been cleared to play basketball either. From what I've read a lot of athletes seem to say it takes 12 to 16 months to get to the point where you forget that you had the operation. I think he injured his knee in Novemeber, so he might not be playing well until after the allstar break.

i can't see how anyone who watched this year's playoffs would want jr smith. it would be like wanting joe johnson after his nauseating display of pussitude.

Hell no to Smith, and is it that farfetched to say that Landry Fields can turn out to be better with his skillset, athletisism and bball IQ?

The guy had a bad year which is good for us. The guy is a great scorer off the bench has proven he can produce in the playoffs.

Im not saying the guy is an allstar in the making. Im just saying the guy isnt as bad as some make it seem. Yea he had a bad year when he was called upon to be the 2nd option on the team. This is the same as Crawford being forced to be a starter when he was acquired to backup Houston.

you got 1 part right, JR is younger. But Buke is a better shooter, rebounder, defender. At half the salary. And a lot less of a knucklehead.

So why does Smith have better stats across the board?

Azuibuke: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/azubuke01.html

Smith: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithjr01.html

Look at Smith's TS%. You yourself said that it was a better indicator of someones shooting.

JR Smith is a a very good player. His issue is he needs to be the 3rd or 4th best player on the team. Last year he was Denver's 2nd best player. They put weight on him to help Carmelo carry the team and he cant do that. I compare Smith to Crawford. They make suspect plays but when giving a specific role they can blossom.

CAREER STATS

Season G MP PER TS% eFG% ORB% DRB% TRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG% ORtg DRtg OWS DWS WS WS/48
Smith 424 10061 15.0 .546 .515 2.3 10.1 6.2 14.2 1.9 0.5 11.8 24.4 105 109 8.9 8.5 17.4 0.083
Azubuike 205 5007 14.3 .557 .519 5.5 12.6 9.0 6.9 1.3 1.5 9.3 18.2 113 113 7.2 2.2 9.4 0.090

Why look at Career stats when they havent even been in the league the same amount of years. Azuibuke has been in the league for only 4 years. Plus Azuibuke stats for last year are SUPER skewed because he played a total of 9 games.

Nice try though.

$ for $ Azubuike is the better SG. With respect to consistent play, I think you have to give Smith the nod (for stats alone), but even if we look at complete seasons, Smith's TS% is worse than Azu's which from the SG position may be the most important stat. Azu has a big advantage in blocks over Smith, which says a lot because you have to assume that there is more defense coming with it.

All in all, I don't see the 'statistical' advantage being enough to warrant a selection of Smith over Azu-- especially at twice the salary and in consideration of the question marks regarding Smith's mental makeup.

I'd like to give Azu the shot to show that that small sample set of games last year was something that he is capable of. If he reverts back to his 2008 form, I agree he is a below average SG, but Smith is an average SG at best.

You know I gonna spin wit it
