because you're far from guaranteed to be getting him for free.

why if he wants to come here? Lebron wanted to go to Miami for 2 years it appears--he went to Miami

lebron was not coming to miami till the last second.

denver can trade melo to another team where he has time to gel with his teammates, have a great honeymoon year, be treated like royalty and courted by the entire city, and sign there for the max instead of here. not too far-fetched, is it?

Bs lbj was going to miami for a long time

After Melo, there is nothing out there. I know some of you have this weird fetish for young players but you need Stars to win in this league. You're not beating that team in Miami with a bunch of 22 and 23 year olds with "potential" (I really hate that word). We NEED Stars! And no - Danilo Gallinari, Anthony Randolph and Wilson Chandler are NOT Stars and aren't going to be Stars. Same as David Lee, Trevor Ariza and Channing Frye weren't going to be Stars either.

Carmelo is not as good as Bernard King- and the Knicks had some very decent other pieces with him--a deep team in 84. The Knicks were never a great team with him--good 47-48 wins and some noise int he playoffs but nothing more. If we deplete the team and give up our assets with no cap space--we'l be stuck as a 47 win team. If we are patient--then we have the goods. Whats wrong with being patient--if Melo wants to come to NY let him--in FA next year--why the heck would I give even a penny for him?

Briggs did you watch those knicks? Good pieces around him? WHO? Cartwright? Truck? Rory Sparrow? That team would have been terrible without King. They beat an up and coming great Detroit team and then took the GREAT Celtics (with Bird, Mchale, Parrish) to a 7th game and lost. Don't minimize what King did back then. For that year and half he was as great as anything at SF.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

ha. i don't think he really expected miami to open up 3 max slots. i think he was as flabbergasted as anyone else and then made a real bad last-minute decision because of it.

but regardless - what about the scenario i painted re: melo?

You will not get him for free get that out of your mind. You will lose Curry who we really don't care for and you most likely lose Chandler and Azubike to free agency to create room for Melo. Where is the free part in this.

Carmelo Anthony is only 26 years old and his career is far from over. And Bernard King never played with a player like Amar'e Stoudemire. What's wrong with being patient? Say Melo is traded and he re-signs with another team, what do you do? Who do we sign? Tell me another 26 year old 28/6 Star that's available next summer.

Trading for Melo makes a lot of sense. Its good business, the reason for that is you keep in good terms with Denver you never know in the future you might want to deal with them. Its only fair to Denver to give them something in return for Melo. I don't think the KNicks should give away the farm but a fair deal should be made between the parties. I think Walsh knows this. I think Walsh will make a deal for Melo and he will make a very fair deal where both parties will walk away feeling alright.

I expect Melo's agent will play for sign and trade -- and will limit the teams they'd agree to extension for. Only way Denver will agree to it is if they have a few teams to negotiate with. So, if the Knicks want him, they'll probably have to come up with something. Vmart's point is well taken; we'd be parting w/ more than Curry to get him anyway. Why not offer some of that up now?

Briggs, we had cap space that is the only reason DLee trade went down. Had the Knicks made the splash for two Max FAs DLee was walking with out compensation.

I wouldnt do the trade, I just dont think we need to. I think this is the time to stand pat and be patient. I think this is a playoff team as currently constructed. I think a Gallo/AR/Amare frontcourt has a very high ceiling.

That being said I would not be upset if they traded Gallo/Curry/Chandler for Carmello.

Azu is a good shooter and good defender at the 2 and an opening day SL of Felton/Azu/Melo/Amare/center is pretty damn good. You bring Douglas/AR off the bench as your 7 main guys.

It would be nice to keep our homegrown guys and see how good they can be for once.

One thing I can dig about Melo is wants to be here, he wants to be the man, he wants to win in NY, he wants it all and you gotta dig that... you just have to

Number 1 Carmelo Anthony doesnt even compare to a player like Kobe or MJ--so lets get that straight

which leads me to point 2 tell me the last team that won a tile without Kobe or Mike with a guy who avg 28 points? The Pistons(twice are great examples of teams who were great by the sum and chemistry of their parts.

point 3 stop looking you wont find one going back over 30 years

You dont win with a team dominant scorer unless he is a pure bred 1 of a generation player like Kobe or ML

If we got Carmelo--he could be a go to guy--in a way that Paul Pierce is with the C's. But you need all of the pieces they have. Equate Gallo as Ray Allen equate Randolph and amare as KG and perkins
Teasm win championships and I haev history on my wise to prove it. Even the teams that MJ and Kobe are were filled with tremendous depth. This team MIGHT NOT EVEN NEED carmelo--lets play the season and find out!!

Sure--IF the choice was made to move Chandler--if we even wanted to do that--lets see where Chandler is right? IF he blew up--we could S+T him to a teams with cap space for picks like the Cavs and Raptors did.

But you know what--I m not even sure this team needs Carmelo anthony and well haev a whole season to see if Im right
