Wow. I wonder why we signed Rautins before Fields.

Actually there was a similar thread to this on another site, and someone explained it so it makes more sense: Rautins was signed first because he was just about to play for the Canadian team (the timing of it was just a day or two before, I think)- maybe he needed a contract for insurance reasons, or Walsh did it as a favour for him. Maybe JJ hasn't been signed because they want him to play abroad, but maybe Fields hasn't been because it basically puts us over the cap (or very very close), which in turn means we then couldn't trade the Golden state players because we'd be over the cap (don't know if this is true)- so he's basically holding off signing the other rookies just to keep flexibility for the rest of the offseason, and the only reason he signed Rautins early was because he was playing for Canada.

Euroleague is a better league than the D-League for the most part because players get paid so much more. So if you're not gonna have the time to play a 2nd rounder its a great option for them to go over to Europe where you can still retain their rights. Of course it would suck if they never came back to the NBA, but with someone like Jerome Jordan that isn't as much risk as Milos Vujanic.

Still with a traditional center like Jerome Jordan I dont know how much development he's gonna get in Europe b/c of style of play. We really need to get control of a D-league team so we can hire a coaching staff to ensure the development of our players the way we want. I think we continue to go about this the wrong way.

As an aside, isn't it odd that the Knicks have a "Jordan" obsession? We've bought 2 2nd-rounders in recent years - both named Jordan - Jared Jordan (the next Steve Nash) and Jerome Jordan (the next... Olowokandi?).

Wouldn't it have been nice if MJ just spent his twilight years on the Knicks instead of on the Wizards. *sigh*

Gotcha. Thanks for the clear up.
