maybe the thought was that Iggy is a better *fit* for the Knicks as opposed to a better player?
Melo is clearly better, but pound for pound Iggy might make the Knicks better than Melo does.
I would say Iggy plays better D but it didnt really translate stats-wise. Look at 82games opponents FG%:
own vs. opponents / diff / % of team's minutes played at that pos
Melo SF: .481 / .508 / -.027 /56%
Melo PF: .459 / .512 / -.053 /10%
-----------------------------------
Iggy SG: .512 / .509 / + .003 / 26%
Iggy SF: .466 / .498 / -.032 / 51%
Also since they log every minute Iggy is playing as much SF as Melo, although most would agree he's more a SG (like when Spree played SF).
Here is the REAL question.
Its the Feb deadline. Knicks are decent and are the 6th seed in the Easter conf standings. Phili sucks. Lets also say Mosgov is the starting C for the Knicks and averaging 6ppg 8rpg and 2blocks in 22 minutes. They are willing to trade you Iggy for Chandler, Curry, Mosgov and Fields (who has looked good in small doses like Douglas did last year).
You make that trade knowing it also takes you out of getting Melo next year?
