Sorry, but I actually support this move... as long as it does not lead to Isiah eventually becoming GM again. That was a failed experiment that should not be repeated.

Yup... as long as there is no GM job for him in the future, and any GM we eventually pick up is OK with him being around.

Dolan has the dough, and this is just Dolan being loyal and giving Thomas a personal service contract. No big deal, but I actually think it makes the organization seem better in the eyes of outsiders. No need to burn this bridge. The more good relationships you have with people, the more chance you might benefit from them someday.

There were some stories about Steinbrenner being thrown around after he died. One person indicated that George "fired" a number of folks during the years who he would keep on the payroll as scouts, consultants, whatever. The loyalty thing was important to him, it would seem, and he felt a need to make sure that people who had served him well would be taken care of even after he replaced them.

People are overreacting, IMO, although I liked the mooning garden gnome.

Erm- I thought he was already a special consultant- wasn't that the role he was given after he was removed from the GM spot? I don't mind him in this role as long as it doesn't lead to a more prominant position in the future. The problem with it now is that it's just going to lead to lots of media speculation abut him replacing Donnie over the next year or two- a very un-needed distraction and it undermines him.

No big deal--way overblown. Have no problem with IT as long as he has no access to maximum contracts and the MLE:)

Maybe he will just kill himself right next time with the pills. That seems to be our only hope at this point to never see his face again. I hate the man with a passion, really do.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

You're not alone. I don't care if this makes a me a bad person but I really HATE Isiah Thomas. If he dying and I could help him, I wouldn't.

doesn't it make sense? he did a bad job being the general manager of a sports team so it's only fitting he deserves to die... right?

This is one step closer to Isiah returning as GM.

You gotta love Dolan, eh?

Actually you don't gotta. I really hate that POS.

I hate Thomas, whatever that makes me in anybody's eyes, cool with me. The guy did not just do a bad job. He is a snake who ruined an organization and somehow still gets away with it. It is not so much the man himself that is so unsettling, rather it is the fact that he keeps getting a job again and again. It is just one of those things that makes you look down on mankind in general, people like him keep getting a job doing something that they are horrible at, just does not make any sense. The guy represents a general concept that grinds my gears so to speak.

best thing that can come out of this: isiah gets credit for some positive things relating to the knicks (drafting, scouting, signings, etc.) some "shrewd" team swoops in and "steals" him from us. we go on to fleece said team in numerous trades collecting all of their lottery picks from here to eternity.

worst thing that can come from this: he's given more than a peripheral role within the organization and begins to influence the team's culture, decision making and overall direction. i understand that dolan is trying to help duke rehab his image as a front office guy, but he has to move on and GM elsewhere if he's gonna GM at all.

Only in basketball can a guy ruin everything the touches, get a documented case of racism and sexism, and somehow still get jobs raining down on his head. NBA, truly where the "Amazing Happens"!

Man, my blood is boiling. This organization is pathetic...

What a ****ing shame that we have this tool as an owner. A real ****ing shame that a team playing in MSG in NYC has to deal with such ****ing stupidity.

I am embarrassed and pissed off at this.

If only the Steinbrenners owned the Knicks.

Stupid azz Knicks organization is stuck in the past. Even with an improved roster we're having trouble moving forward.

Isiah is back and now Jeffries may return? This is a disgrace to fans of the Knicks and the people of New York.

I'm really feeling like this has negated some of the idea that the team has improved. So if he Zeke can't land Melo and/or Paul will he be truly banished from the organization? My worst fear in this situation is that they land one or both, Walsh retires and Dolan and Zeke try to make it seem like it was all because of Thomas, that Donnie laid the groundwork, but Zeke closed the deal. It makes more skin crawl ans stomach turn just to think about.

If Frank Layden can be a consultant, Isiah can be a consultant.

Its about finding the best talent and last time I checked there are a more than a few of Isiah's discoveries still making contributions in the league.

Like the way he swooped in at the last minute and convinced James's people, without even meeting with the man himself to come to NY??

Oh, wait...
