lee was known, but pretty much as a role player after college. i don't think he was really projected as a 1st round pick by most.

a lot of people wanted taft...there's a recent article on knickerblogger about that. i don't think many saw lee as a clear cut nba player by any means.

Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

That is what Lee did at Florida when he bulked up to play inside. He could have easily stayed around 220 and played skill forward in the mold of Billy Cunningham

except he's never had those skills.

Marv - perhaps not. Or maybe Lee is not pressed to play center in Gainesville and maintains high school physique and athleticism

we'll never know

Imagine a motivated Landry Fields working diligently on his game, learning the referees tendencies, discovering the best spots to eat on the road, finding a good woman and adapting to the shooting background in The Garden.

what I recall was Lee went into college at 6-4 with great hops. He grew another 5 inches and changed positions.

Bottom line is the kid got better every year with the knicks and got him an 80 contract. He has made 11million in his career. If this is his last contract he will have made 91 million dollars!!!!!!!

Dude did well for himself!

Fields is smart and works hard. He has a good all around game, but with some holes as Briggs pointed out. But he has the intelligence and the work ethic to improve. I'm not going to make any predictions, but I feel very hopeful about this young man and his future as a Knick.

Landry Fields will never replaces Mr. Lee. Like any rookie, Landry will have to earn his stripes. His skills looks nice, let's see what he do in actual NBA action. David Lee was the most interesting man in NY.

Interesting - does anyone else think Landry's a bit like Matt Barnes... he does a lot of good things out there - and he'll just find a way to make an impact through sheer force of will, not necessarily through refined skill...

dat Jackie was crazy

Technomaster - the best line about Landry Fields described him as Doug Christie without the hand signals to his old lady.

"Fields – (14pts, 2asts, 4rebs in 29:31) The kid was all over the floor. He looks the way you want a first round pick, much less a 2nd round pick, to look in summer league; like one of the best players on the floor at any given time. With Azubuike possibly injured to start the season, Fields’ versatility and energy may be needed."

Knicksdom - I hate to be the first to break the sudden news to you but Landry Fields has ALREADY replaced David Lee on the Knicks roster, if not in our colective sentiment.

There are nine, count 'em 9, new players on the roster and you must accept the fact that, "life go on". David Lee will be always affectionatly regarded as a homegrown warrior who played his heart out... But he is gone and a new day is here.

Time to get with the program

Duhon to Felton - check

Lee to A'mare - check

Harrington to Randolph - Walton: "throw it down young fella...throw it down...!"

Darko to Turiaf - team cancer to passionate leader, you do the math

Tracy McGrady to Kelenna Azubuike - check

JR Giddens to Landry Fields - advantage Stanford

Curry to Mozgov - hear me now and believe me later, Mozgov will pump ("clap") you up!

Eddie House to Rautins - goodbye over the calf socks

Nate to Jerome Jordan - no more height disadvantage on defense

He looks to have more potential than Barnes to me. Once he develops his three point shot, I think he will be a very solid NBA SF. He certainly should be able to get to the same level as Chandler.

Landry Fields: Ready to Deliver
Written by BigC

(Big C) Good news: summer league is finally over. One thing that I was very pleased with was the play of rookie Landry Fields. For a player that really was not on anyone’s mock draft or, in some cases, people never even heard of him. Landry Field stepped into summer league with something to prove.
Let me just say, the kid put in work. Many players come into the league and it does not matter if they are drafted number 1 or 51 there is still a big chance that they are not NBA ready. However, ladies and gentlemen, I am happy to inform you that Landry Fields is NBA ready. Unlike many players that come into summer league throwing up shots or just trying to do too much. Fields stayed calm, cool, and consistent for the entire Summer League. He let the game come to him.

On Offense

From what I saw it looks like he can score from anywhere within the arc area. Fields excels best using his mid-range shot. Despite him being relatively slow he is still able to take his man off the dribble with a crossover or using a jab step.

Most of Fields’ moves start in the triple threat position allowing him to either drive, shoot, or pass. Fields is definitely a wing player that likes to setup where he can create his own shot or a shot for his teammate. I also like the fact that at 6’7 he is able to post-up. He is a player that can play with his back to the basket or straight.

In summer league we saw him gain position with ease and post-up his man to fade-away or drive from the post position. It is clear that Mike D’Antoni can use him as a small forward to backup Gallo or playing short minutes at the shooting guard position.

I also like the fact that he gets to the line. Many times when he drives to the hole it’s either a hard layup or him making a 3 point play. Landry Fields also is a player that does not give up on plays. We saw him a few times hit the offensive glass for a rebound and go back up strong. He was a tough force to stop from driving or pulling up off-the-dribble..

Defense

Fields looked good playing help defense, blocking shots, and getting steals, but he still has to work on his one-on-on assignments. With his long wingspan he could become one of the better players in the league at getting steals. There were also a few times he got lost trying to stay with his man. This led to Fields picking up silly fouls.

Weakness: Fields is slow and will have trouble guarding quicker players in this league. He also needs to work on his decision making at times. I thought he turned the ball over too many times.

Even though he is very successful at knocking down the midrange shot I think he needs to work on the NBA 3 point shot. He also needs to work on his foul line shooting if he is going to continue getting to the line.

Overall, Landry Fields looks like he is ready to contribute this season. No, I’m not saying he is a superstar in the making. However, I do feel he can be a solid role player in Mike D’Antoni’s rotation.

Let's go Knicks. That's amare
