R.I.P Mr. Steinbrenner, one of the most controversial and successful owners in all of sports. He will be missed.

This is some of the saddest news I've ever gotten.

In my own crazy world, I always thought George was un-defeatable. That's why I never accepted that he had gotten so sick. Unfortunately this wasn't the case.

I don't really know what to say right now. George Steinbrenner is the best owner in all of sports. I guess Jerry Buss would be the only one that rivals him in terms of greatness and since he has the cap to work with. But Buss will never match the passion George had to win. The man is a legend and will be sorely missed.

Rest in Peace, George M. Steinbrenner III.

A sad day indeed.

George gives us hope one day Dolan will rise also.

George had to learn many lessons and fail before it all came together to establish the Yankees as the most important franchise in NOrth America.

He should be proud of his legacy and the thrills he helped create.

Him and Billy Martin are once again united!!!!

I just don't know if they are in hell or heaven?

Tremendous owner that was committed to winning and committed to giving the best possible product to the fans...RIP George. Thanks for everything..

RIP Bob Shepard too...

Baseball lost two iconic figures back to back. Let's hope they give these two men a nice tribute tonight at the all-star game and honor them the way they deserve to be honored.

Jason Alexander (George Costanza) gives statement to CNBC on George Steinbrenner's passing: "I met the real George Steinbrenner on only one occasion when he actually came and played himself on an episode of SEINFELD. He seemed to really enjoy himself. I did not get to know him but the fact that he allowed himself and his beloved team to be satirized on our show is an indication to me of his true character. He was certainly a legend and I am pleased to have been associated with him, even if only in fiction. My sympathies to his family, friends and fans."

steinbrenner was lebron right now when he was banned in the late 1980s...(what does that say about how it is sure to hurt lebron's "legacy")

winning silences most, even if it is as manufactured as arguably some would say the yankees or heat are...

i have always had mixed feelings about him, personally...

may he r.i.p.

The Boss went out as a Champion. It's a shame he didn't go out as a Hall of Famer as well because if any owner deserved to be enshrined, it was him.

if George had taken the Yankees out of NYC when he was threatening to go to NJ, you might have a case.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
