I think Haslem made the right choice here. He went to HS in Miami, college in Florida, and has been with the Heat through the recent runs. This means that him and his family have a connection to the city and the organization. Riley says he wants him to be a Heat lifer. Im guessing that Haslem has maybe one more contract in him after this and if he is still a servicable player he will be overcompensated (thought not nearly enough to make up $14 million) given the choice he just made. Also, to the guys bringing up how NBA players suck at maintaining their wealth, Haslem basically just locked up an Alan Houston type job when he is done. So dont think of this as just a 5 year deal.

Players association is going to have a tough time at the meeting the first thing they are going to look at is stars are signing for less and veterans to just look at Miami. Owners are going to jump all over this and salaries will be reduced. If you are a veteran why on earth would you sign for less when you could get more. NBA players have no clue as to how much the Miami three has hurt their case come the meetings.

Similar to the KG 150 mill contract he sign right before the last lock out

Haslem stays and doesn't have to uproot his life or family. Plus I think he's the only other Heat besides Wade from that first championship Heat team, so he may feel like he deserves to go to the promised land again.
