Is AR a shoein to be a starter? Is he ready for that role yet? I think people here are pegging him in that role, but after that injury, we really don't know. Our starting lineup might have to start off being a little short because of that. He's only 20, 21 remember.

Chandler guarded all 5 positions last year like Jeffries.

I do think AR will be used similar to Jeffries on defense.

Chandler is a good versatile guy off the bench, can be used to guard a lot of guys. But we have enough depth now that we won't be killed on those nights when Chandler's mind seems elsewhere.

Randolph is a good foul shooter, so I'm guessing he can probably develop a good mid range jumper with some work. I don't see him adding weight. That doesn't work for some people and I suspect he's one of them. But with his size and speed, should he develop a good shot, he'll be a load to handle.

I assume it will be more team D with Randolph doing the Fishlips floating blocker. If they can get it tight, I think D'Antoni's system could be a hella good defense. There were points last year when they had guys locked down. Once Fishlips left, the defense went back to sucking. But Randolph is gwine check guys who comes too close. And I bet the leadership role will pump up Amare's D, too.

I think he's just predicting.

I think no matter what Amare/AR/Gallo is the front line.

on offense, Gallo will be on the wing, Amare in the center of the court for P&R and AR lurking on the baseline for garbage points and swift cuts to the basket.

on defense, AR will be weakside, Amare strong side (possible problem there, but he's decent man to man) and gallo for help.

I don't think D'Antoni plays traditional positions.

when Jeffries was playing "center" he would often guard opposing point guards.

Either way, the Amare/AR/Gallo frontline is extremely versatile and features shotblocking and rebounding and offensive options galore. Turiaf steps in if we need to body up a big guy.

Word. I definitely can see that front line doing well in MDA's system. ANd Randolph will bring back that versatility on D that JJ had last year, but with more length and blocking and hopefully boards. I just hope Amare develops his m2m skills because that could make the Knicks more impregnable on D.

I agree -- unless we make another trade.

Now with Gallo, Walker, Fields and even Azubuike capable of playing some SF --- isn't it possible Wilson Chandler is dangled for a young veteran legit 2-guard.

Are there any teams out there with a surplus of SG's that might need a talented young starting SF?

I love Wilson -- don't necessarily want to trade him but I think Donnie will target some young 2-guard that is a true 2-guard who can stroke it from range and defend.

Who is out there -- that could be reasonable in a Chandler swap?

He is coming back from an injury that took him out for most of the season. I don't think he will start immediately. I think it will be Turiaf at the center spot and Randolph at the 4. I think Randolph will be eased in very slowly.

Fair enough. I haven't followed his game much prior to now. But that one game that was posted got me excited.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I think Randolph is coming off the bench backing up 3 positions. Turiaf starts at center and it makes sense because he can establish some defense early in games.

PG Felton
SG Walker/Azubuike (whoever shows more in practice)
SF Gallinari
PF Amare
C Randolph

Bench
Chandler (at the 2, 3, and 4)
Douglas (backup for Felton)
Turiaf (backing up Amare/Randolph)

I'm going to guess that whoever doesn't get the starting spot between Walker/Azubuike may ride the pine. Our 2nd round picks probably won't see any time as well unless they show a lot during practice.

Kinda want to see what Landry Fields can do. I feel like he can be an X-factor off the bench.

I agree. Chandler is not a SG b/c he still is not comfortable shooting the 3 ball. I would let him back up the SF and PF positions so he can stick to the mid-range shot (which he can hit effectively). I think Walker may emerge as the starting SG if he truly has lost the weight and comes into camp hungry and focused.

Trust the Process

This makes me wonder if we are doing a trade that involves at least one big at this point. Too many people to play C/PF: Amare, Turiaf, AR, the 2nd round pick C (Jordan) and now this Russian guy.

Maybe we use Turiaf / Mosgov at C to anchor a zone defense and AR backup PF and SF? That means between Azebuke and Walker somebody is out of luck, you would think that will put Chandler as a starting 2.

I don't know, a lot of possibilities.

A glimmer of hope maybe?!?
