I really think the Knicks need a winning season and a playoff appearance next season. Otherwise it would be very hard to argue that even plan B or C was successful.

Yup.

Would the same be true if we went the "building through the draft route"? We would be looking for a winning season this year?

It would depend on how many years into the plan we were. Eventually you have to start judging success based on results.

https:// It's not so hard.

I think that fans are generally more patient when building a team through the draft. If you like your picks they are almost like your kids, and I think you are more willing to put up with their growing pains. At some point, though, you have to start showing positive results in the form of winning seasons.

I think that we came out of this FA season in pretty decent shape, much better than during the past few years, but we still have to win or what's the point.

Seems like a nice little double standard. But I think you are right in describing it, people seem to adopt their own picks like they are part of the family. Nothing wrong with that, just that comparing a team built through draft picks over 7-8 years and a team rescued from Isiah's soup of suck in two years is like comparing Soccer with Football. I think the bar for a team built through free agency is set unfairly high. Just my 2 c.

flexibility baby..building a contender thru the draft

I know what you're saying, but by picking up Amare and Aldrige, you might have propelled your team in a direction (winning seasons) that would have had you picking later in the draft.

If you strategy had worked early on, you never would have had the chance to draft the guys you list here.

So it goes.

Probably true.

By the way, I would much rather build my team through the draft if I could- one of the reasons why I like the NFL more than the NBA. Has a lot more meaning when you win.
