i don't think that's true. the cap is not going to be $9M higher than they thought. it might be like $2-3M higher.

but AR makes less than $2M.

It does make a sign and trade to Minnesota possible I think. I.e. Lee straight up for Rubio

rubio doesn't even eat up cap space. this is possible with or without the higher projection.

i realize now that our space is irrelevant in any potential Lee for Randolph deal. the warriors would need to match salaries because they are over the cap. probably dreamin, but maybe Lee to the Warriors, Randolph and Rubio's rights to the Knicks, and Ellis to Minnesota/LAC or some other team with space.

2 mil more means we can sign David Lee to a contract starting at $9-11mil per. Then we we can trade him to Minny for Rubio who has $7-9mil of cap space. We'd still have a max slot left then to sign Lebron.

Or Minny could sign Lee straight up at around 9 mil to start.

Max contract costs $17,413,200. With cap holds, Knicks will have 2.2M free after two max contracts. Earl Barron is not included in that calculation.

I thought his rights had a cap hold equal to the salary slot of the 5th overall pick?

I am not in the mood to look it up, but players under professional contracts to play basketball in foreign countries do not count against the cap.

I can't remember whether its different if you're a first vs. a second rounder but I'll take your word for it.

But in any event, then why don't the Knicks S&T Lee for some kind of young player- i.e. a first round pick or a former first rounder to a team that has the cap space before the ink Lebron or Amare officially? I suppose that kind of trade might not be out there, but I'd have to think that it is if there are teams competing for Lee's services and can get him the 6th year on his deal by dealing a pick...

it's not about the finals, it's about the whole playoffs and the revenue it gains.

it's total revenue. i'm guessing they even have to factor in money made at the NBA draft...

Technically, it is all basketball related revenue... but, I thought the Coon article was discussing the basketball related revenue up to and through the date of the article... need to look it up... the article could simply have been wrong...regardless, the actual cap number is set.

Coon was saying that the playoff part may effect the overall cap numbers by a few million, give or take

In this market Barron should command the full MLE

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.
