I absolutely agree, I would much rather sign DLee last year for 11M/per than wait til 2012 to offer Amare the max.

I don't care what the Knicks could have done last year. I took the question as pertaining to what can we do now. So what do you think we should do now?

Glad to see I still know how to deliver sarcasm.

Definitely pro-Amare, especially in this market. Via Hahn:

C'mon Briggs! At least try to be unbiased when making these threads. The idea of adding Amare just makes sense for us at this point. Lock up an All Star and go from there. We have a chance to put together a really good team even if we don't end up with Lebron, but you have to start with an attractive player that others would want to play with. Amare is that kind of player.

David Lee to me--if you can get him for 6 years-66-72 versus Amare Stoudmire 5 yrs 100mm is the much better value. If you really think there is so much dividing these players--not the Amare of 4 years ago--but the Amare bow--you are deceiving yourself. David Lee was also an all star and avg 20-12-4

If we GOT BOTH players back--I would be happy with that if we got Lee at 6 years 72 mm or less. Gving up Lee and taking back Amare--to me is a close wash.

A couple of things....

1) Forget the ages of the respective players. There is birth age and there is basketball age. They are separated by less than one year on their birth certificate, but Amare is more than just a few months older than Lee in basketball years. He came straight from HS and is entering his 9th year, played big minutes from the start. He's logged roughly 18,000 NBA minutes and has had a couple surgeries to boot. David Lee has logged roughly 11,000 NBA minutes. Im not even including all the playoff games and extra minutes Amare is racking up every year playing deep into the Western Conference playoffs, while David Lee has never appeared in a playoff game. When you do factor that in, hes literally played almost double the amount of basketball in the league that Lee has. Lee has a lot less wear and tear on his body at this point than Amare

2) Amare is the better player than Lee, but i do think Lee could be the better value for his price tag. That said, David Lee is not attracting any big FA here, Amare possibly could. Theres little doubt in my mind that in the mind of NBA players there is thought of to be a much bigger gap between Amare and Lee than there probably actually is, and thats something to take into consideration, both for this offseason and coming ones

Amare is actually 58 years old but he hides it well.

Amare has played 568 games and Lee has played in 368 games that is almost a full two years of games. Amare has played 8 years and sat out 3 years with injuries. Amare is a much better player than Lee so lets not talk about that. I think the Knicks are overpaying for amare but they had to make a splash. Bottom line Amare followed the money and I think that is what most of the players will do. Not being able to insure his knees is huge and lets see if Amare misses Nash when he has to play the pick and roll with Douglas.

Its crazy Ironic that Briggs was the biggest Amare Stoudemire fan when he was coming out of high school. All young players are the greatest thing since sliced bread until its time to resign them to big contract once they establish themselves.

Can't wait to see whats said about Anthony Randolph and Brock Lopez once they get overpaid contracts.
