if knicks come away with a few guys at good value instead of a max guy, i look at it as a net positive. though they are f-ing idiots for giving up their draft picks IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS when it wasn't like 95% guaranteed that you get a max guy. unbelievable.
the worst thing in the world though is to starphuck again and max some idiot that doesn't deserve to be maxed (joe johnson). NO BAD CONTRACTS add value where you can:
m miller, redick can both be had at right price and are 40% 3-pt shooters, shannon brown would flourish in an up-tempo offense and would not be more than 4.5 mil/yr, roger mason probably would sign for 2 mil/yr and is a big guy who's a good shooter and can play both guard spots, oberto won a chip with the spurs and is a mobile 7 footer who probably would sign for 3 mil/yr. the knicks could add FIVE quality guys at a total cost of 25 mil! now are they the next dream team? no, but a team of:
douglas (mason)
wil chandler (redick)
mike miller (shannon brown)
gallo
oberto (barron, curry until you deal his fat ***)
may even make the playoffs in d'antoni's system and you go into NEXT offseason with $22 mil and guys signed to reasonable deals and an actual TEAM ready for a leader.
they need to relax with the pandering to be on the front page of the post every day with some "big name" and just manage the team smart for once. they could also have some PATIENCE for a change, try to boost fat ed curry's salary in the first 30 games and then deal his expiring contract to a team that is not playing well and is losing $$$$ and needs to dump a big deal. knicks can TAKE ON money in a trade with cap room.
