Lebron & Bosh can sign for more than $11M in Miami to play with a MUCH better player than Joe Johnson in D Wade, live on South Beach, bang tons of HOT chicks, win multiple championships to build their immortal legacies, AND pay no state income tax... whoever wrote this article is on drugs.

Is Miami going to bring a Florida tax attorney in their LeBron Pitch Squad? I gotta say, the tax angle is a tough one to ignore.

As for hot chicks, they are always just a private jet ride away, am I right Mikhail?

Someone brought up on RealGM that while the idea of pitching to 3 max stars to take a $5M/yr paycut is total horse****, maybe the idea of assembling Joe Johnson/LeBron/Amare (or David Lee here) isn't so far-fetched. If we can convince Atlanta to take on a S&T package of Gallinari and Chandler, along with Eddy Curry's expiring contract as the poison pill, we could acquire Joe Johnson while maintaining two more max spaces. Essentially, it's the Miami plan, and it'd take losing Gallinari and Chandler to do it. It would certainly be the bold strategy that SI alluded to at the start of the article.

Personally, if we were to trade Gallinari, Chandler, and Curry, I'd rather do it for Chris Paul/Okafor, and then try and convince LeBron or JJ to sign for slightly less than the max (around $14M or so), which allows us to hold onto Lee's bird rights.

Granted the pay cut thing is far fetched but I like the approach they are reportedly taking with LBJ here. You are either with us or against us. We want you, but we don't need you. I love it!

I really hope they use that line about feeling comfortable facing 3 top guys and the fact that they have no choice but to build a winner and it will happen with or without him.

tax angle is a non factor as there are rules in the CBA that equalize what players can be paid between non tax states such as Fla and Tex.

There is no advantage to be gained there.

No MAX level player in his prime has ever taken a paycut.

The key to me is the playoff bonus. If we can give all of those guys the maximum playoff bonuses then they'd make more money here than they would anywhere else assuming that they made a run to at least the Eastern Finals.

That's the one ace we have up our sleeves in terms of the three player plan.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

the plan is pretty simple... create the Yankees of the NBA.

The Knicks can carry a $100mm payroll and make money if they are playing in the conference finals every year.

The weak link is Joe Johnson. He's a really good player, you dont go to 4 all star games without being one of the best in the league, but the article says it.. he's complimentary.

This playoff bonus scenerio has been repeated by bloggers and is incorrect. All all salary, likely bonuses and unlikely bonuses need to fit within the team's cap room or exception when the contract is first signed.

I dont think the SI article makes sense-

I think realistically the pitch is this...

1) Sign 2 Max FA (we have the room for that)
2) Use Curry's expiring+ remaning assets (Chandler?) to sign and trade for a third Marquee FA (most likely Joe Johnson)

Thats how you get 3. Pretty much the rest of your roster at this point would be 2nd round picks and minimum salary guys.

It's a shame that Walsh didn't do a better job with their draft picks the last 2 years, to give them a comparable base to sell to these free agents. But if they can pull this off, kudos to him, D'Antoni and Dolan.

I have a very hard time believing LBJ is going to sign for less than max money. I don't think he'll do it in Miami or in NY. he's the best player in the league, he shouldn't have emeka okafor making more than him.

i hope the bit about the "we don't have time to wait, we are too busy assembling our championship dynasty" isn't true. i'm sure lebron is really nervous about the prospect of going up against joe johnson and amare and our assembly of 2nd rounders like landry fields and andy rautins really scares the King. LOL.

So... let's assume the Knicks use up our remaining cap to sign either 2 or 3 big free agents.

Won't we be left with a roster of about 7-8 players (counting Curry, Douglas, Gallo, Chandler, Walker)? Will the remaining folks be limited to league-min players? Or is it that once we hit the cap, we'll be able to get MLE and LLE players?

I read somewhere here teat unlikely bonuses only count towards the cap in Year 1 is that right? Can we offer them unlikely bonuses from year 2 and ask them to take a cut in year 1? Would that work around the cap limitations? Just asking if this is a possibility?

if the Knicks get 2 of the big FAs like Lebron/Bosh (or Lebron/anyone really), I think it'd be a lot easier to convince other role players to come for cheap. And I'd imagine we'd still be able to use the MLE once the Knicks max out, but I'm not sure...
