The way I see it is if we dont get anyone this year it's not gonna be different in 2011. we might as well sign some players for reasonable deals and just continue to build through the draft.
you can't really look to build through the draft when you no longer own the rights to your next 2 1st round picks... this is why Donnie's trade for T-Mac put us in a horribly tenuous position... it's all or nothing this summer & if we strike out on the big names, we're almost forced to sign 2nd tier talent to overpaid contracts just to be make sure we're competitive next season.
The 2012 pick is Top 5 protected. The 2011 right to flip picks is Top 1 protected. No need to sound the alarm all is not lost.
Take the finger off the damn panic button!
I don't call "top 1 protection" protection.
We've already given up THREE TOP TEN picks in the last FIVE YEARS, including one number #2 overall.
Yeah but that pick is ONLY a SWAP, not an outright transfer of the pick. That's a huge point of emphasis. One we have to have a worse pick than Houston for them to want the pick and 2 if it is REALLY bad and we end up with the top pick we don't lose it. The chances are that we will have a better record or at the least a very close record to that of Houston, so what will the real difference in picks be? Don't you think that somewhat mitigates the harm that this deal does?
Then the 2012 is top 5 protected so again it does allow for us to actually be horrible if that was the game plan after losing out on every top FA.
panic button? i'm laying out the situation & how it may play out if we miss out on the bignames... none of what i've said is unreasonable... the point is we are practically forced to field a playoff calibre roster this year in order to avoid giving up yet another lottery pick to another team & avoid yet another disastrous trade the likes of which we've seen in the past in recent years... that means in order to be a much improved team from last year, we may be forced to overpay for players like Joe Johnson, Carlos Boozer, David Lee, etc. if we strike out on the bigname FA's... if that happens, it means we'll be hampered down with longterm contracts of 2nd tier talent that won't be able to make us into serious championship contenders... but oh yeah, we're getting Chris Paul for Eddy Curry's expiring this summer, i forgot.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
