The Bulls have a trade in place that would send guard Kirk Hinrich and the No. 17 pick to the Wizards, sources told ESPN.com's Ric Bucher.

The move would free up enough cap space for Chicago to sign two max-level free agents this summer.

The deal can't be consummated until July 8, when Washington will have enough room under the cap to absorb Hinrich's contract without having to send anything back in return.

actually, not really. chicago doesn't actually have enough cap space for two maxes. neither does miami. only new york does.

but i fail to see why washington would take on hinrich for nothing? they want a three PG rotation of Arenas, Wall and Hinrich? uhhh. not sure i buy this. this could be more smoke from World Wide Wes, who i am getting sick of...

Hinrich is a good player. Teams just giving away picks and players for cap space.

Chi isnt getting crap. They might get Bosh, but I would be suprised. You watch. They had their day in the sun

yes they can, any FA deal will be S&T so they can trade any one of their remaining guys to make it work. ny can only sign 2 max FIVE year FA deals but those max FA's are gonna be looking for 6 years so s&t must happen.

and only NY has two max slots. bulls have $30M, heat have ~$29M, knicks have $34M. a max is $16.8M. do the math, plz.

Well it's over. I don't Blame Donnie for the plan and the moves he did but it's obvious this franchise is cursed and going nowhere. Seriously. Knicks fans are a dying breed. Half the fans that attend games are out-of-towners and tourists coming to see the opposition. We are a week away from the great free agent bonanza and we will be left out in the cold. We'll probably scrape some mediocre fake franchise guy like Joe Johnson and Carlos Boozer but what is that doing to do, really? Nothing.

I will give up on this team in the coming weeks. I've been holding out hope for a while but the end is near. I've been a diehard fan for the past 12 years of my life and I've reached my limit. I'm not going to prepare myself for another decade of losing. I can't handle it anymore. I know people always threaten to quit the Knicks and don't but I'm serious. The Knicks are simply not worth the time and effort anymore. I wont become a bandwagon fan of anyone. I guess I'll just watch random NBA games for my basketball fix. But as far as my Knicks passion goes? It's nearly all gone. And it's a damn shame.

if the bulls don't have the space to sign the guy outright, they have zero leverage. if chicago can't sign bosh outright, what will they have to give up to get him?

knicks can sign the guys outright, therefor they have leverage in S&T scenarios.

Is the sky falling on the NYK? Is Chicago about to steal our thunder? Are our hopes and dreams now dashed on the rocky shoreline of oblivion? Can anyone confirm if it's true that Chitown now can sign BOSH AND LEBRON?

I am finally a little scared. I hope the draft broadcast tonight sheds some light on this.

no. it is not true. they don't have two max slots. they have $23M committed. Knicks have $18M committed. the knicks barely have enough room for two maxes. how is it the bulls with $5M more committed have enough for two maxes?

the answer is that THEY DO NOT.

what league have you been watching? if a player wants to go to chicago, they will go to chicago. leverage is all on chicago b/c they actually have an appealing situation. if any player wants to play for the knicks, it has nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with shine. knicks can still get lebron + bosh but chicago can get them also. stop getting so defensive.

the rest of the league doesn't know how to do math?

i'm not really interested in what ESPN's biased anti-NY reporters have to say on the matter. i fail to even see why washington does this trade. $9M is a lot to pay for the 17th pick in the draft.

Yes, if Chicago makes that move then it's over. 2 teams with better situations would be able to offer 2 max contracts. Why would a player choose us over Chicago or Miami?

Let's be a realistic here and stop living in our dreamland. The dream was good while it lasted but reality is about to hit like a tidal wave.

I will say this....while this is technically allowed under the rules, I can see David Stern looking at this and really restricting how trades are made in the future.
