[quote]Playa, He kept the team propped up for a long time. To say he bought it down is plain stupid. The rockets are better this year, but the are not yet ready to challenge. Judging him any more than that is stupid.

DumbCore, your just so freaking antagonistic for all the wrong reasons sometimes.

The irrelevance baffles.

Now pick up your face and keep it moving...
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

how was ernie a bad gm? he made trades to put us under the salary-cap in 96 AND still remain competitive. he brought in arguably the best new york knick team, talent-wise, in years with ewing, lj, houston, oakley and childs wiht a bench consisting of starks, buck williams, ward, wallace and mccarty. he took risk that more times than not panned out ( sprewell and camby).

as far as nelson, he would not make it in new york because EVERY move he makes will be under a microscope. in dallas, he quietly constructed his team into contenders by drafting nowitski, trading jason kidd for finley and nash and trading jamal mashburn. those were MAJOR risque moves that payed off. we also do not need a laid-back coach. we need a coach who is energetic and stern. nellie did not fit the bill. he was right about ewing, though. but there are better ways to do it. not making hubert davis and anthony mason the focal point of your offense. of course ewing is not going to like that. if they brought in a franchise player then he would have thought differently. was'nt shaq a free agent in 96?

Nelson is not a winner, OK? He never won a ring, has he ever even been to the finals? Ewing was still good back then, and there was nothing wrong with riding out his contract. Then he should have retured as a Knick, and put an end to the madness. We would have passed on resigning Spree and Houston the next two years, had a tone of space, signed Kidd and Duncan by now while having a couple of lottery picks on hands as well. That was that shold have happened. But we hired Layden, who has single handedly destroyed the franchise starting with the Ewing trade. Layden is the man who should be blamed for everything, him and Dolan for lettin him stick around and preventing rebuilding.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Two things, Laydog did not trade Ewing. He traded Rice for Eisly and Anderson. IT was a bad trade, but Rice was a big mistake.

Nelson did not trade J-Kidd. He got moved about a month before. Nelson publically said it was a mistake.

Nelson did well with Milwaukee and Golden State.

Nelsons big mistake was using Mason as his Point forward, a move made popular by Jackson using Pipin. Nellie wanted to blow it up, DOlan was not interested. History shows one thing. Should have blown it up.
