For Currys expiring?I would do that yesterday.Point guard and center are 2 of the hardest postions to fill and we fill em in one trade.

Im sure the Knicks would do it--if I was in their position--I would seriously consider it.

The way I see it,if it involves them taking back Curry, the deal is a bargain. The 3 additional years on OK4s contract are a lot of salary, but he is a legit rebounder and shotblocker. Collison is a high potential PG. Curry is taking up roster space and salary cap this year. Thinking about the additional years of salary, this transaction fits the "Isiah" type trade, but logically, I did not disagree with the concept of taking back salary in order to acquire talent. To the Knicks misfortune, they took back salary for 'potential' rather than talent and lost the bet. Second, they did not time the expirations of their contracts properly in the case of Jeffries, Curry, Randolph and Crawford. OK4's contract doesn't run further than the expect FA contracts the Knicks will sign this summer. Last, the value of Curry's expiring in terms of cap space next year needs to be reduced because of the salary increase due the new FAs and the restricted FA status of Wilson Chandler and the inability to use the MLE. Basically, using Curry's contract to take back salary should be a no-brainer, but the Knicks need to lear from prior mistakes and not take back salary that goes beyond the bulk of their FA signings. If all max FA's take contracts with a 3rd year ETO, then OK4s contract (which has a 4th year) is unacceptable.

I think Walsh should make any decisions with Curry's contract after we know which Free Agents we are getting. Curry's contract will be important thing to keep if we have to plan for Melo in 2011, and team construction post FA acquisition should dictate its use. If we get Lebron to play PG this may be too much to give up for Collison. We can do better than OK4 for a big.

Then maybe we let them get him. We can't acquire every good player that becomes available.

Disregard. Just checked with the Realmgm trade checker -- the trade works..

Why all the Hype over Collsion? He had a very good rookie year now he's ready to run a team full time? I'm just not sold on him. I would not take back Okafor for him. What make collison so much better then T Douglass? They are both are small shooting guards. Let's roll with our own SG playing PG.

Nah, Collison's a true PG...If anything Russell Westbrook was more of a combo. for the Bruins when they featured both of these guys together and he's proved that he can play the 1..Collison's a true 1 though, much more than TD...

Not one bust out of any of the PG's taken in the first round - we needed a PG desperately - aaaaand we didn't take one...

Gotta get one somehow, but a center who can't shoot with stone hands in a pick and roll offense is a little rough. I don't think we'd get good value from him.

Maybe we could get Holiday if the 76'ers draft Turner.

I would buy Memphis' middle pick at #25 - you know that there's going to be someone of serious value there, be it Williams, Bledsoe, or White.

Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Collison is a natural leader & was the starting PG at UCLA on a team with Jrue Holliday on it... he's exactly the type of player you want in a PG... quick as hell to get by anyone off the dribble, makes big shots, takes control when you need him to & gets everyone else around him involved in the offense... also plays good ball hawking defense.

Do people think that OK4 has enough left in him to make such a trade worthwhile?

Would Lee do a S&T to the Hornets? Would the Hornets want him?

If we have had to choose over trading Chandler or Douglas- what should we do?

It would be nice to get rid of Curry

Lots of questions.

if salary cap relief is what NO is looking for then i don't think a D Lee S&T scenario is feasible.

you'd have to be nuts not to pull the trigger on a Curry, Chandler & TD trade for Collison & Okafor IMHO... that would fill both of our biggest needs right now, a shotblocking C & a natural PG to lead the team & gets everyone involved in the offense... personally i don't see NO dealing him to us for that package though... maybe if we threw in Gallo instead of Wilson & took back Peja's contract also, but i don't think DW or MDA would ever trade Gallo for anyone unless they were getting back an established superstar stud in his prime... anyway, that much salary coming back wouldn't fit into DW's plan to sign 2 max FA's this summer either.

I'd do the deal but we gotta consider EO contract
When u look at young talent we get in Collison and Okafor we'll be better off
however Okafor hasnt done much in NBA yet so he is a question mark

All in all it is a tough few months and 2010/2011 for Knicks
since we're not getting folks we want in here to build something. Thus you gotta
look at options.

Curry for Collins and OK4 is a no brainer.

Hell... even OK4 for Curry straight up is a no brainer. There isnt an offseason scenario where adding OK4 doesnt make a ton of sense. If you adding Amare or Bosh or Lee putting them next to OK4 is a great fit. It also still leaves you with max cap space for a wing guy.

The best scenario to me would be trading Curry for OK4. Resigning Lee. Signing Lebron, and adding Mike Miller who can shoot the lights out and play PG.

Your 2010 Knicks would be:
pg Miller 6'8
Lebron 6'8
Gallo 6'10
Lee 6'9
OK4 6'10
bench: Douglas, Chandler, Walker

Thats a ton of size, skill, shooting, depth and defense around an MVP caliber player. Thats group in the their prime who will be playing in the ECF year after year.

And thats without Collison who I think they will package in a different deal

I would hold on to Curry I believe UNLESS I got a deal to good to be true--i.e Pau Gasol trade. first of this is pure speculation hat we can get a deal for a Ok4 and Collison[who played a total of 30 games or so] I don't see the need to rush into a deal here--especially before the draft. Not many teams are willing to take on long salary--this deal --if there is a deal to make should be in better terms after the draft.

here's the thing... there are a lot of trades to be had draft day, there always are. I agree that Curry's contract will be most valuable after next Christmas but the Knicks and Walsh have some pressure to improve the team as they court the big FAs. OK is a dirty work player. He will guard the best post player. He will block shots and he will rebound. He doesnt need to be fed the ball, adding him for Curry doesnt hurt our cap space. I would think a guy like Amare or Bosh would favor playing next to a guy like that.

If your looking at your best chances to build a contender next year I think this is your dream team:
PG Douglas
SG Lebron
SF Gallo
PF Amare
C OK4
bench Chandler, Walker, drafted players

I think if you can get OK4 for Curry on draft day as an even swap (maybe cash) than that makes the Knicks more attractive to FAs.

The WORST case is you have your shot blocking defensive center to put next to a resigned David Lee.

I like that line up, but in a perfect (MDA0 world, i really need my bigs C/PF to be able to knock down a 3.

There's a reason Dlee gets wide open shots from deep, the system is design that way. I know we need defense more then ever, and EO is a solid defender, but he will struggle in this offense big time. He's also not a great finisher, and will essentially be one demenssional here.

Man, people are looking at OK4 with such rose colored glasses. There is a reason why Brown dumped him with the quickness. Duke is looking more and more like Malik Rose --- especially on offense.

He's such a liability with the ball in his hands. If we're blessed enough to grab a Lebron type player and he is being doubled in a big spot, whats he going to do? Give it to OK4? Give him the ball and watch the comedy ensue. The Knicks would be playing four on five with him on offense.

If all things were equal, I would take a flyer on OK4. He has some strong points. But right now he is being paid superstar jack, for role player production and in an uncertain future NBA economy a contract like that could cripple us. Especially if we're trying to put together a championship squad.

Collison has looked good, real good, but he's a only a rookie. I dont think I could justify mortgaging our future for somebody that looked good as a fill-in. OK4's contract is just too long and expensive for a guy who is just a solid defender and shotblocker.

for what???

Gallo and Collison are pretty much a wash. Two young players with promise and potential. But Ok4's contract is hideous and Curry is an expiring. That would be a completely lopsided deal. Walsh would be a fool not to immediately hand up the phone.

Chandler, Curry for Collison and Okafur is a nice deal for both sides. They get someone paul can give it to on the wing and rid of a contract.

Collison-Douglas
James-Walker
Gallo
Bosh
Okafur

Pick up someone like watson or k thomas on the cheap and you have a title contender that is young. with a center and a pg in the fold it would be hard to turn down.

Im thinking more TD/Curry for Ok4/Collison. Even then I'm hesitant. That Ok4 contract is so brutal for a player on the decline. TD is a solid prospect and the Hornets get out from under a contract that is threatening to become disastrous.

at least OK4 can hit a short jumper and has a couple of post moves, even if they are horribly robotic and unathletic. OK4 is 10x better than Varejo on both ends. OK would be a role player but he would really fill a need. Next year you would have OK4 playing center with either Amare, Bosh or Lee playing PF.

Even if things are status quo and we did get Lebron? He would be passing to Lee (shoots 55%), Douglas or Gallo. 3 guys that are very good scoring options. Those give you 3 jump shooter that will light you up if you collapse on Jame driving. Plus most of your MDA offense is going to be in transition or motion.

Knicks have MUCH better offensive players than Cle did. They can afford to have a guy like OK4

Do you really think OK4 is a MDA Player. I clearly remember DW building that gritty INDI team in the mold of Larry brown, he got players, like the davis's to fit that half court grind it out style.

With that being said, DW would probably take back a huge contract if it's a perfect fit for MDA ( such as Peja), not just to get a player such as collison, if CP3 was part of that deal, well, thats a different story

D Lee will be playing more & more on the perimeter next year so you will need a guy who can bang down low & grab boards on the offensive side of the ball... OK4 is not ideal but he does fill our biggest need of shotblocking & he's also a good rebounder in the paint... if your PF is a weak defender like Amare or D Lee then it makes sense to bring in a guy like OK4 to cover the lane against penetration.
