Here is one thing I will add to this thread:

The Knicks organization - Thomas included, albeit for a short time - had plenty of time to evaluate Lampe up close. They saw his talent, drive, heart, work-ethic, eating habit, strength, skill, footwork, personality, whatever up close. From August to December.

I would have to believe that if the Knicks had a potential Dirk, KG, or whatever in the making, they would not have traded him. Period.

Now, 4-5 months don't make a 100% solid eval period, but it's a good indication. The Suns have had Lampe for 1 week and they are saying he the next big thing? Please.

Ditto.

man, I hope that's not the Patrick Swayze-Demi Moore kind of "Ditto".
no matter what - you DON'T give away a 7 foot 18 year old center b/c he's garbage now. And lampe's garbage now

but that's the same thing you say about an all-star PG in his youth. And that's what the Knicks got in return.

1. I don't think we can or should assume that because a writer wrote that Isiah basically gave Lampe away that it is true.

2. Isaih's task was to make the team better now, and he did, with a bonafide star in his prime (26) that (if he continues at this pace) will have a spot in the hall of fame.

3. You never know what Lampe will or might or could have been. We definitely know who Stephon is. Regardless of what, we are better now, and if Lampe is what made the deal go through so be it.

4.I like the notion of having players that will develop but what we have in the knicks is New York City. If we can keep a team that is exciting and playoff worthy, we will always be able attract free agents who are already good and proven.

You have to realize that Marbury is 26 and one of the top 3 point guards in the league already... Lampe is 18 and another project...he could be a bust he could be great but what are the chances hell be better than marbury? granted, a good center is hard to find but its not easy to get a top notch point guard either. Basically youre trading a project who could potentially become as good skill-wise as marbury (but probably not) for marbury. Its not even a win it all this season kind of thing because marbury has at least 10 good years left. by the time lampe develops he will probably be 23-24 anyway.

I'll say this: if Isiah doesn't fire Chaney soon, he will be the village idiot.

excellent post, I was high on lampe, i thought he was going to be a good player, the next Dirk, I don't know , but I trust zeke and he felt that lampe was no more than a average player, now people say you can't teach height that is true, but he was also slow and you can't teach speed. Getting marbury was well worth it, remember marbury is just 26, it is not like we gave him up to get 35 year old PG.. lets get real. Its funny how all of a sudden pheonix sees all this talent, then why didn't they draft him? Did they think that casey Jacobson was a much better talent? or whoever they took ahead of lampe..

this is just the usual media BS!!!

Another thing, Lampe did not want to play in the post, he even said he was more comfortable outside, it was layden and his lunacy that tried to take a outside player and make him a post player. Lampe had no lift so all of his shots were contested , he got abused by lonny baxter, I mean I hear people talking about Jermaine Oneal. the difference is that jermaine oneal at 18 was dominant on the HS level, Lampe could not dominate his Jr league, and Oneal was a athletic specimen at 18, he already had the NBA ability, just needed the opportunity, from what I am hearing ,lampe was out of shape, and seemed to have no motivation..... Not good..

There are a lot of fine minds out there in GM land and all of them passed on a project who fell into the knicks laps in the second round. A jump shooting SF? PF? C? SG? PG? who is growing into a jump shooting center with great basketball instincts. A jump shooting C?-Doleac?

I like Lampe's upside and would have been happier with him than without but we did get a hall of fame PG who has yet to enter his prime playing years. Will Lampe be that good will he be as good or better than Doleac? I dont know and neither does anyone else. There were two players taken before MJand who was taken before Bowie.

Time for the next topic-this one can be put to rest-its over-done

They say Lampe has a great build for the post, but really, so does Doleac. Lampe is a project and a tweener for right now. He hasn't established what position he can actually play and who knows if he ever will. It would have been interesting to see if we really could have gotten this deal done without including him, but this is an excellent deal regardless and i wouldn't reconsider no matter how much talent they say Lampe has.
