To this day, whenever Im watching a basketball game, or playing in one, and see someone struggle to convert a few successive attempts right under the basket, I immediately think of Charles Smith. Every. Single. Time. Its like war flashbacks

LOL. Real talk.

We werent going to win a chip that year. The Rockets and Magic were way better.

'93 was that year. Even if we didnt win, beating Jordan would have been good enough and might have given us the confidence to beat the Rockets the following year.

Honestly 95 didn't bother me a whole lot (compared to some others) because I didn't think we could win it all. If you remember, Patrick was also pretty banged up during that postseason with some sort of leg injury (I can't remember specifics, either his calf or hamstring had a partial tear in it). They made a great run in that series to come back from down 3-1, and made a huge comeback to get back into the game in game 7 when trailing pretty big. It sucked, but to me it was lesser than some other years.

Charles Smith will live in infamy. Whenever me and my pops see a hard ass dunk we say "Charles Smith" in mocking tribute of that baby shyt soft, fool.

I dont care what anybody says, duke was 6'10, built like a greek god (no Ricky Martin) and right underneath the rim in the biggest Knick game in 20 years --- and he went up soft and fading. You gotta at least draw significant contact (although they prolly stripped a lil skin off his fingers with those slaps). They were not going to call anything on Jordan unless you made them.

To me, he's our Bill Buckner.

I would think (hope) that Smith still has nightmares of that moment of pure frustration. Smith was 6'10" but played like he was a foot smaller on that play.

All those wack pump fakes? Thats something that Ray Allen would do in that situation. But you're a 6'10 power forward?

Jordan and co...wanted it --- he was going to have to score over their dead bodies --- Smith did not. He doesnt lose a wink of sleep. Bet.

This is up there as one of my worst playoff memories Smith should have tried to dunk the ball, I know he got fouled by Jordan and Pippen but he was Mr. Softy especially on this play. I gotta say game 7 vs Miami in 97 was just as bad though cause we all knew the Knicks were a better team but got screwed by David Stern with all the suspensions at least the bulls were a great team but Miami? smh

The most painful game of that series was game 6. Remember "9 men, 1 mission". They almost pulled it out. Game 7 we were never really in it, All I remember about that game is Tim Hardaway raining 3's from all over the place and falling down big. What sucks about that series is not only the suspensions, but the way they handed out punishment. We had like 5 guys suspended, but because of NBA rules they couldn't suspend all 5 for the same game. So they had a couple sit out game 6, and a couple sit out game 7. They did it by alphabetical order, and since "Ewing" comes ahead of "Starks", big Pat had to serve his time in the home game in game 6. If his name had been Patrick Washington or something, he would have played game 6 and we close it out on our home floor

Those guys didnt even get involved in that Heat brawl. Especially Patrick. He put his pinky toe on the court and then immediately hopped back.

That shyt was a travesty and that team was hands down the best of the Ewing era. I honestly dont even like talking about it. I even put it above Red Sox vs. Yankees '04.

The Knicks didnt lose on the court like men. Shyt was stolen from us.

The best team of Pat Ewing era was the one that lost to the heat after suspensions.

DUNK IT SMITH... i couldnt understand why he didnt try and get some more contact. make the refs call it if you wont dunk it.

The refs weren't going to call jack shyt. The NBA was all about Jordan.

I remember that season in game 82 the Bulls were going for back to back 70 win seasons, and we won on their home floor to stop them from it on the last day of the year. We would have had a shot. Id always favor Jordan but that was arguably the best Knick team of the 90s. What sucks most is it was really our last shot of the Ewing-led era. After he hurt his wrist early the next season he was never the same again

Well --- make it all about Charles Smith and yam it in his face, then!!!! Starks wasnt all scared and looking to fadeaway and pump fake. He put it in Pippen and Jordan's grill, LEFT HANDED!! NOW THATS HEART!!

If we lost, we lost but we'll never know cause Stern robbed us from the opportunity. Ewing got hurt and also remember that LJ's back started really acting up after '97...SMH at Stern.

KnicksSince88 wrote:Yes, even worse than game 6 or 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals to me. The Charles Smith game. We had the Bulls, we had home court, that was the year we were to get by Jordan. We led the series 2-0. Had a golden chance to take command in game 3, Jordan left the door open with one of his rare off efforts in a big game going 3 for 17 in game 3, but we could not capitalize. Of course, you couldn't hold MJ down for a whole series, and he would explode for 54 points in game 4, leading to game 5 at MSG. Thats when this happened

I still haven't quite gotten over that loss. All the missed free throws in that game. I would have loved at least the chance to play a game 7 at MSG

yea.. first of all, charles smith has to go up for the dunk, but what about the foul on stacey king who basically triped ewing up on his way to the basket?

Ewing fell. They weren't gunna call that shyt. Especially in those rugged days and ESPECIALLY not against Jordan.

We were going to have to take it from him.

true, and honestly, what was Ewing doing trying to dribble his way to the hoop... starks should have come back around and ewing should have set the pick for he or rivers.. Honestly, the ball should have gone to rivers from the start...

Uh... I can't keep talkin about it! It just makes me mad again. My wish was Ewing to finally get the help he needed when he was in his prime and it seems he just never got a break. Stern screwed us bigtime during his career.
