These guys arent taking paycuts to play with each other. At the end of the day it comes down to who is willing to pay them most years.

You take that 6th year way too seriously. It's not that big of a deal. I know it's an extra year of salary but most of the time it's a 'player option' year anyway so chances are the player will opt out. I don't see Chris Bosh signing with one team over another just because he'll get that extra 6th year.

bosh will be 31 and is playing with a massive knee brace.

look at jermaine o'neal. he just made $20+ mil this season. let's say he signed a deal for 1 year less, is there any way in hell he would've gotten $20 mil?

In 2003 Jermaine O'neal signed a 6 yr deal for almost 130 million dollars. Fast Forward to the present day do you think anyone in their right mind would have paid him close to 20 million dollars this past year with all his injuries. Signing a 5 year deal would have cost him 5-10 million dollars. Bosh is not an Iron man and he wears a knee brace. Do you think Michael Redd is going to get close to his 18 million dollar salary after next season?

Wade, Amare, and Johnson will all be 33 or older at the end of a 5 yr deal. Do you seriously see any of those guys getting max deals or anything close to the max at that age? Come on now.

Of course you dont think the 6th year is important because it isnt your money.

Chris Bosh, Jermaine O'Neal or any player can get injured in the first Preseason game of their 5 or 6 year contract. You can't and don't sign contracts thinking like that. I don't believe Bosh or any player will choose team A over team B just because team A can offer a 6 year contract and team B cannot. And not every FA this summer is going to get a 6 year contract anyway. No way LeBron James get's a 6 year contract because Cleveland won't even consider a S&T when he leaves.

Some question whether Bosh, Amare, or Johnson are even worth the max right NOW. Do you think they will be worth the max when they are 33 yr old?

TOR already said they are willing to do a S&T for Bosh

PHX was already trying to trade Amare at the deadline

ATL doesnt seem like they want to pay Johnson, think Seattle SuperSonics with Rashard Lewis.

I don't think there is anyway that happens, with the lockout destined to occur next Summer. The owners are hellbent on cutting the contracts short, and the players know it, so there's no way they are going to give up on their last couple of years just so they can be free agents at the same time again down the road. Yet, as fishmike said, this is a party league, so I wouldn't put anything past the players. There's no way the agents allow it though, anyway.

Knicks1248 said it exactly right. This just didn't happen in the past, but i'll take it further that it doesn't even occur NOW, in just about every other sport. Where does it happen? Did Mark Texiera, CC Sabbathia and AJ Burnett have a summet? Is Carl Crawford and whoever else going to have a summet next winter? NO! lol This is boarderline ridiculous. You just don't do what other players do just to be free agents at the same time. You do what's best for you. ESPECIALLY WADE with his off the court issues he's got going on!If I were him, I'd just say "Shut the f' up a'holes. I'm taking my max six years and that's all she wrote.

I don't really get it either.

You guys keep forgetting that these players already did have a mtg of the minds which is how we ended up with this FA class. Melo is the only guy that took the extra year. I can't hate on these guys for coming together to increase their power in deciding where they go.

Owners usually have the power but in FA the players have a choice. If they want to play together they can. What's the diff between this and say Boston where the players try to convince each other to accept a deal to play together in Boston?

Even in football players may call a guy to try and convince him to come to his team. This is just a higher level of that kind of thing.

Wade: Yo, what's up fellas. I didn't order yet. Yo Bron, keep ya head up. Don't worry about it. That fool ain't worth it.
LBJ: Hmm...
Bosh: Do they validate here?
<everybody shakes their heads>
Bosh: Damn.
Wade: What's up J. You still sweating about your money. Don't worry...you'll get yours. These guys all have short memories. But damn that was bad.
JJ: Man... I don't know what happened.
Wade:Uh..huh. Ya watching the Mamba. Say what you want. That ninja can still do his thing. Alright down to business.
LBJ: Damn... It's crazy right now. They have me going everywhere.
Wade:<snickering>Yeah, some fool on Money News said that you could even go to China if the money was right. I said that ninja better take Yao with his ass.
LBJ: Just crazy.
JJ: I...I just don't know..
Wade:Er....yeah. Hold that thought. Y'all remember to keep bringing up NY. They are the key to it all. F**k, Amare should be here too.
Bosh: Are we going to split the bill? Because all I'm getting is soup anyway.

Stern has no problem with the FA Summit or talk about the Summit. It's all system go now. I've been watching Chris Brussard talking on ESPN and of course he makes no mention of NY in any of his comments. He and others keep pushing this idea that if the players are about winning then the only options are Chicago and Miami. I think that's somewhat true, but not necessarily so. Any team that ends up with a Lebron/Wade combo is gonna be a contender, but IMO not a lock to win it all. The same goes for Lebron going to Chicago. Of course the team will be better, but that team isn't a lock to win a title. I think that's the problem with all of this. The media and fans will expect that any of these moves will lead to a title like Boston had, but Chicago with Lebron isn't the same as KG, Pierce & Allen. Seasoned vets that were ready to win and knew what kind of sacrifices they had to make. They also fit like a glove together. I'm not so sure that Rose and Noah, plus the other supporting cast is anywhere near as strong. It's gonna take more time and more good moves to get any of these teams to the point where you feel they're a lock to get to the finals and possibly win it.

NY isn't much different, but then I don't believe coming here is solely about winning. Who really makes decisions like that in this day and age? Coming here is about Marketing/Money/Opportunities outside of BB/Winning and Prestige. All of those things factor in. Lebron/Wade/Bosh etc. come here to get all of those things and of course they'll win too and more importantly its a clean slate since no one has won it here in so long. The fans are already amped up and we have been losing big. They don't have to imagine just how crazy things will be if they win here.
