Wade & Bron with no dominate big man, yeah you will win a ton of regular season games, but it will be a different story come playoffs..will become the high scoring team that only plays Zone defense

what if the Knicks buy a bunch of those extra first rounders (Min/Mem both have 3 first rounders) and draft Larry Sanders, resign Earl Barron and trade Eddy's expiring and a pick or two for OK4? we would be looking pretty big and long up front after all.

bottom line... once you have Wade/James in place you can use Eddy's expiring deal to take on a bad long term contract. OK4 jumps out. What if Brand gets healthy and looks good? Kaman? Biedrins? Someone is always looking to dump.

Go ask Scottie Pippen Kenny Andersen etc..why you would NEVER do that. Because if something goes foul--not only will they not give you 32mm they wont give you .032

These guys already turned down guaranteed money in order to set themselves up to make even more. They were confident enough to do this Knowing full well that there was a chance they might have to sign without doing a sign n trade. I think they would love to get the money and move to a new team, but I think they're prepared to do the move even if no sign n trade happens. In the end tho I fully expect some kind of sign n trade to be worked out for these guys.

not everyone is driven by that money and that lifestyle. A lot of great players arent. Not every NBA player is an idiot with their money and there are lots of things that factor into it beyond contract.

Hell... say I make 100k to commute from NJ to the city every day. I would gladly take 75k to work 5 minutes from my house. That means a crappy car, smaller 401k, I have to mow my own lawn instead of paying landscapers and I cant retire until I am 68 instead of 64. You know what? Sign me up because it means more time with my kids, being for dinner every night and never missing a little league game. My daughter got a double the other day and I missed it because I was on a train.

Not everyone thinks the bottom line is the most important thing in life.

Being rich basketball star in NYC means something more than it means in other places. There are a lot of factors here that go way beyond year six. I would bet the only ones that care about year 6 are the agents because they get a cut

congrats on your daughter's double fish...ya douche!

Briggy,

I think your mostly correct about every free agent leaving that much scratch on the table except Lebron who might not even do a max deal and may just do a 5 year with a 3 year opt out in any event.

Yeah, 30 mil is a lot of money but with Lebron its not the same.

Could he not opt out in 3 years and basically do an extension to his existing deal?

Is his Nike deal based on sales?

Chicago makes sense but There its about playing with DRose, Noah and Deng. Here he can get Bosh/Dirk/Wade as his deputy dowg and Gallo who might grow to be better than Deng one day. Gallo is a better long range shooter. Deng might never ever see the ball again with Drose and Lebron.

If The nike deal is based on % of sales I think Knicks are better choice for obvious reasons. While he certainly can hold his own identity, I think the IMage of him in a bulls uniform might be percieved (maybe more overseas) of him wearing Jordans uniform and might tarnish the brand he tries to create. If BUlls, who never changed their basic uniform design in its history changes drastically a season after he arrives there That would be telling.

Nalod thinks Nets loom too large to be ignored and things its:

What I think: Cavs for 2 years, then Nets.

What I hope: Lebron/Bosh

Too many "dark horse" variables to really predict.

Arrogant Bastid(Boston Accent)! No really tho, I think you may indeed be the source or inspiration. It wouldn't be the 1st time i've gotten the impression members of this forum have effected the real world in some way. I'll give you credit

So the way this agent sees it, James, for better or worse, is basically running the whole league at this point.

"He's controlling the entire league," the agent said. "Nobody wants to do anything that will annoy him in the slightest. It's funny, but it's sad. I think that the league right now is completely at his mercy

That is sad, cuase i can't remember one single player who ever, to have had such and impact, not even when kobe's impending FA was appoaching, or shaqs move to orlando, or clydes move to the rockets, barkley to the suns..or 2 time MVP steve nash 2 the suns.

Labron hasn't done anything special in this League other then dazzle us with his dunks, strength and speed..
Sometimes i look at this dude as a little over hype considering he's been label the greatest player ever who's yet to win a ring..or do anything significant...With all his hype you would think is closing in on his 6th ring..

When you look at the players he has played with, has any of them gotten significantly better..Mo will made the all star team by defualt like David lee..

WTF???

So winning back to back MVP's. Being a 6 time all-star, multiple first-team all-NBA selections, All-NBA on defense two times...taking a garbage ass Cleveland team all the way to the finals...All that is nothing significant?

I tell you, sometimes its better to be lucky than good. Donnie stuck to his guns even when all signs pointed to Lebron resigning just a month ago, after another bomb regular season.

But that Cleveland collapse could be our Godsend. Damn, what timing! Even the fans turned against him at home. Lebron and Wade. COT DAMN! They gotta do that. That team would be talked about like the Showtime Lakers. This article by that a-hole had me shytting my draws. Even a fool like that has to recognize the possibilities and momentum that is whipping east towards MSG.

Mike D'Antoni will lead the Knicks' recruiting efforts by showing James and Wade how he would maximize their talents. Is anybody else worried about this part of the strategy?

At the end of the day, you know it's the championships that matter, he's a great great player, but so was barkely, stockton and ewing..you act like I said fck em i don't want him here..when you got the entire league by the balls, thats very significant for guy thats won no championships..

I'm only saying this becuase I saw how quickly people turned on Ewing, despite how great he was and how he kept NYK on the map for over a decade

This is why you take a chance, cuz you just never know how things will shake out. In the past we rolled he dice and lost, but what we had to gain wasn't even worth it since there's no chance we could put together a real title contender with the moves we made in the past. This roll of the dice was worth the risk because of the possible reward if everything broke right. Donnie put it all on Black and really since we completely sucked for a decade anyway what was the real risk? If we did nothing we weren't winning a title and would face a few years of slow rebuilding anyway. BUT IF WE HIT, WE HIT BIG! Let's be real, this is the closest and most realistic shot we've ever had to get two of the top players in the game right now.

this is the argument i used with anti-knick fans (which, for a team that has stunk for a decade, there is a surprising big amount of them). we have the pleasure to be the ONLY team that can pay off TWO max free agents which should bring us in front of the pack. the knicks could say to lebron, "hey, you could have any partner you want from the best free agent class in history and most likely you will get it so what do you say?" it doesnt take a genius to figure out the answer. the x factor is phil jax which if he goes to chi-town they will get lebron. if that happens, jax screwed us up another decade.

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to believe only two things can happen this summer. Either we hit a homerun and get LeBron James and Chris Bosh or we FAIL and resign David Lee and overpay for Joe Johnson and sing a mediocre player like Jermaine O'Neal or Channing Frye. Big difference going from King James and Bosh to Lee, Johnson and O'Neal/Frye. I don't see a middle ground here.

If we did not do the JJ trade we then would only have room to resign Dlee and a scrub.

I think Lebron and Wade would be an awesome combo - but Lebron will need a big man and Bosh/Dirk are the only legit bigs out there right now.

I would sign Lebron and go for a big - then next year I would go for Melo to be his sidekick (once Curry is off the books)
