Calipari? Why is he such a commodity now? I don't remember being some grand coach on the Nets. The guy sucked in the NBA. Let him stay in college. If LeBron wants him as his coach, let him lose with him in Cleveland.

I would rather go after Byron scott to coach Knicks and who's been to 2 NBA finals as coach and got 3 or 4 rings as a player..

I think we should wait a bit, since the next few years are the reason he was hired

Dantoni isn't going anywhere. Walsh picked him for the purpose of recruiting lebron. He'll get two season to try and win with the king if he can't then they won't resign him and they go after these other coaches who you guys think are sooo great but got fired midseason for doing such horrible jobs with all star filled teams. Seriously? Explain to me what makes Avery Johnson a better coach? Byron scott? Yea he went to the finals and he lost there too

Kidd quit on him and the word was Scott had zerop work ethic. Wasnt there that incident when the assistant coach started checking to see if BS was actually looking at the tapes they were preparing? Then it turned out that Byron didnt look at a tape all year?

Yeah if I'm lebron i'd go to new York but I'd tell walsh he has to hire a defensive assistant coach. However, I dnt think they really need one to win 60+ games but it would come in handy. I think mda has some good defensive ideas that he tried out a little last season but a good defensive assistant would help make those ideas solid defensive schemes

thats the prob with 60 wins. it hasnt meant anything for cle so far. i dont doubt he could show up here and get that, though i think he might be in the same boat in the playoffs.

the chi route for lbj is a concern for that reason.

I think sometimes too much is made of this whole Defense thing. The Cav's are a very good defensive team and completely focused on D. Tell me what was the reason the Cavs lost to Boston? They couldn't figure out how to score against Boston's D!!!!! Was it that Boston's defense was so great or was it more that Cleveland's offensive attack was so bad and didn't have an answer for the adjustments the Celts made?

Lebron needs an offensive mind like MDA who can show him more ways to beat a defense. Plus we'll have a better core of players around him that can also take charge offensively and not just stand around and watch. With MDA's system being one that is more about ball and player movement, it will be harder to defend Lebron. That Iso crap will not happen again.

Now as for D. We'll be giving MDA better defensive players so that we can get stops when we need them. The defense will look a lot better when you have more defensive guys and more commitment to D. I fully expect that LEbron would insist that his teammates give Max effort on D. That's the difference when your best player demands D. Just like KG demanded more effort from his teammates. We've not had that since the Ewing/Oakley days.

I'd love him here though. Coach Cal is an elite Coach.

Why?

I dont give rats arse about MDA

God no.

Calipari had 5 of the top 18 players coming up in the 2010 NBA draft and he couldn't get to the final 8 of the NCAA tournament.

You consider swapping out Mike for a shot at Phil Jackson -- but not for John Calipari, Rick Pitino or any other turkey.

Yeah but what if he is your key to LBJ though? Would you sell your soul and how much is it worth?

My souls is worth a lot more than that. The GOAL is to WIN a CHAMPIONSHIP. Lebron James right now is the highest percentage bet to do that, but add Calipari and that percentage goes way down.

This scumbag makes Larry Brown look like Jerry Sloan!

This is becoming an episode of "Entourage"!

Is Lebron gonna do his free agency as a reality show? I'd watch!

Maybe his announcement on Pay-Per-View!

Heck, as we write, Marbury is probably telling him he will direct the show for him while teaching him about the wonders of vaseline.

I thought Cal did a great job in NJ. He really started to turn things around and had those guys playing hard and together as a team after a horrible run. I think he has a tremendous basketball mind and alot of unfortunate events cut short his tenure in NJ. If you remember he had the Nets in the playoffs the year they drafted KVH. The following year the Nets traded some of the pro Cal guys(Sherman Douglas), there was a strike and they got off to a bad start. I think he will be very successful if he comes back to the NBA. I also think he would be a huge upgrade over D'Antoni.

This is the best kept idea ^ Avery Johnson is a defensive minded coach who has won a chip as a player and coached in a finals and got robbed by Stern's "POSTER BOY" at the time Dwayne Wade and refs phantom calls that took players heads out of the game.Avery has the right aggressive attitude to be a coach in NYC. If I recall A.Johnson was on the phone giving his assistants calls to coach in NY and then we went with broadway entertainment and hired Danphoney.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

HUGE UPGRADE??? How so? MDA has done more in the NBA than Cal. MDA won 62 with an GOOD but not GREAT team in PHX. I see no reason why he can't succeed here with a better constructed team. I'm sure Cal would do well but as to him being a "Huge Upgrade" over MDA, that's a bit too much.

i'm a big calipari fan myself, but in no way is he an elite nba coach.. he can't even be considered an elite college coach since he's never won a championship.

Cal took over a 30 win team and had it in the playoffs in two years. He was part of a huge purge also but he played his young guys, Kittles and KVH and the Nets improved dramatically under him.

If I remember correctly mda did a similar turn around in phx but it only took him one year so how is cal better?
