Rudy Gay over Joe Johnson. Gay is only 23 years old and won't cost as much as Johnson, which will leave us close to $8M to sign someone else. Next to LeBron James and Chris Bosh, I think the best case this summer is Bosh, Gay and another player (Tyrus Thomas? Raymond Felton? Mike Miller? Kyle Korver?).

Joe Johnson is a solid SG. Atlanta has some "issues" in that locker room. Some guys just free style and their offense is full of ISO's.

Joe Johnson is a solid SG. Atlanta has some "issues" in that locker room. Some guys just free style and their offense is full of ISO's.

Little bit overboard on that one earl. I do think that just because of the age i would much rather see if Memphis would match an offer for Rudy Gay than sign Joe Johnson. If Johnson were younger it'd be him.

I've never been impressed with Chandler I know Earl you love the guy but he seems to be stuck in this middle of the road mode. His numbers are average and he's not even playing with a legit superstar. Joe Johnson's game is far from perfect but he's head and shoulders better than Chandler.

Im a fan of Rudy Gay but he is no SG. If you sign a guy a Rudy Gay you need a guy like McGrady to mentor and work with him.

McGrady mentor surely you are joking? He could maybe teach Gay how to fake injuries but in all seriousness there is all ready questions about Gay's work ethic and having someone like McGrady "mentor" whould be a disaster.

Rudy Gay shot almost 47% last year and can shoot about 35% from three. He's good enough to be a SG imo in a Latrell Sprewell-like slashing/scoring mode. Not every SG is Allan Houston or Ray Allen.

Anubis - no doubt. The Hawks have greater trust issues, under pressure, than a church league pickup game

There are fewer moments of similar pressure during the regular season

Just read a column by Mike Bradley of a local ATL paper (from Truehoop) He labeled JJ as the 3rd best SG in our league:

Kobe, Wade, then Joe Johnson

so the challenge..which 2 guard is better than him in this league?

All the old elite 2 guards are shadows of their former selves:

T-Mac fork in back
Ray Allen last legs
Michael Redd kneeees
Vince Carter - meh

Manu..??? health issues and isn't exactly young either

You'd much rather maybe have Curry or Tyreke Evans if you're building a franchise but realistically those guys aren't going anywhere

Joe Johnson is definitely a top 3 SG. He is 6' 7" can shoot off the dribble and has great handle. If you factor in him not being injury prone then he is a lock at the 3rd spot.

Okay but is that the only way in which you measure a player? Joe Johnson has taken the Hawks for better or worse to the playoffs and successful regular season. Wilson can't even break-out on a crappy Knick team and distinguish himself. Besides Wilson improved his scoring by one point everything else has remained the same from last year.

Johnson is statistically better in every category except rebounding and Chandler is only one rebound better.

Joe Johnson is the 3rd best SG in the league. That is fact. But a 29 year old SG who isn't an 'Alpha' male is not worth almost $100M. Didn't we learn anything from signing Allan Houston? I rather give a 23 year old like Rudy Gay a $60M-$65M contract.
