What did Camby major in UMass? Public Relations? Dude is well spoken and always seems to make the right quote. I remember when he was traded for Oakley and people in NY was upset. He did not give anything to the tabloids. Marcus does not burn any bridges.

Like when he said NY fans are "fickle" after he was traded to Denver?

eh..If you are a NYer I don't think that would bother you. He is still human and 9 out of 10 times he will say the politically correct thing.

Definitely didn't bother me. I actually agreed with him at the time, and even now. I'd love to have him back here.

He played like, what, 10 games for us in like 5 years? He had no business saying anything about anybody at that point in his career.

Well, I believe he was also complaining about our medical staff, and he was always on the injured list. Since then (When he recovered from his major injuries, I believe his hip) he's been fairly stable, so maybe what he said was a legit beef. He can say anything he wants.

And it looks like he is a done deal for 2 years 24mm$

Folks - meet the next injured Portland center. Mr. Marcus Camby.

Not wishing ill will on Marcus because I'd love him on the Knicks.

I don't remember any tears from anybody when he got traded...Were so desperate for anykind of shot blocker that we forget that camby has been in the league 13 years, and only once did he play 79 games, played in only 51 games last year and 60 this year.

Imagine if gallo avg 59 games for the next 2 seasons due to injury, would you resign him to a 8 mill per for the next 6 years.

when i thinking about signing camby, Im thinking on the lines of around 6/7 mill for 2 years

Portland is going to sign camby for 2 years with greg oden and pryzbil already on the roster, with there luck all three will end up on the IR

First Manu, then him...this not good. I hope he waits and doesn't sign anything yet.

Would you turn down guaranteed money if you were an injury prone 36 yr old? No way in hell he turns down 20 million. They are probably haggling over the non-guaranteed portion of the deal and incentives.

and people think OK4's contract is "horrific."

NBA bigmen are like good starting pitchers. If your consistent and keep your team in the game every 5th day your going to make good money.

Is it a compliment to you?

A non compliment doesn't have to be an attack. It's not a big deal he said that. It's actually somewhat true.

You guys are just playing semantics to obscure the real issue.

Fine, he made a dig, or slighted the NY fans --- whatever. Point being is that quote flies in the face of the idea that he is this polished communicator that doesn't burn bridges.

I mean, wtf does NY fans being fickle have to do with his situation at that time? Fans werent the ones that forced him to be hurt all the damn time. They had every right to be frustrated with his performance level.

I'm looking for this "fickle" quote from Camby, this is all I can find:

http://www.nbabasketballfansite.com/gamepage.asp?gameid=42081

NEW YORK Mets shortstop Kaz Matsui attended the game, sitting on celebrity row and getting a much larger ovation than the one Camby received in pregame introductions. "If (Latrell Sprewell) was here it would have been more exciting, I would have been more into it," Camby said. "You never know coming back, NEW YORK fans are so fickle. I wasn't expecting too much."

1st of all: wow, Kaz Matsui? SMH, as a Mets fan.

2nd of all: sounds like the "fickle" comment was in regards to whether the crowd was going to go crazy for him on his trip back on a different team. Sounds like he didn't necessarily feel the love that night the way we might give it to someone else.

We are fickle. No big deal. I submit to you as evidence this site.

Thats fine. Obviously we've all heard worse. It just would have been nice for him to be more honest and focus on his health issues being the crux of the fans' disappointment, rather than putting the onus on the fans themselves.

if Portland is offering Camby two years $21M with unlikely bonuses of $4M over the two years... can't we just offer Camby more years? 5yrs $30M.
