You could talk all day about the lack of Defense from booze, lee, and amare, but your not gonna get a Ewing, moses, hakeem, D Rob type big man in todays game. The suppose to defensive big man out of the draft this year was (thabeet) sent to the d league.

Even with a guy like Camby who played on two piss poor defensive teams and made them no better has question marks.
Unless there is a defensive scheme that guy's can play in, NBA players are just to good to stop single handed.

Noah (considered a solid defensive player) gets posterized by a guy (wade) 6 to 7 inches shorter then him.

When has a player ever come to NYC without being overpaid? Atlanta will match a reasonable deal as most teams would. You have to overpay to pry guys away simple as that.

You may have a point, but just think, Walsh just sacrifice 2 seasons to get under the cap to keep ny Flexible, why would he throw it all away on a all star player. Judging the way he handled sessions, j will, stack, duhon, Dlee and nate last summer, walsh give's me no indication that he is going to cough up max money to anybody who isn't worth it just to make us avg.

i sure hope you are correct. hope dolan isnt whispering in his ear about anything as well.

- Who signs Walsh's checks?
- MSG has spun off now so they are under more pressure to make cash. Tanking now is really not an option.
- They are selling season tickets based on people thinking Lebron is coming. Do you think they are going to put out some garbage team? Do you think D'Antoni will stand for it?

We are spending this summer.

OK fine we all know we're buyers this year, but that doesn't mean we're just gonna waste money. Walsh has said he wants to be cap responsible like the Spurs have been. He has gone on record as saying he has NO INTENTION to spend wildly as in the past. All this speculation flies in the face of Walsh's record here and in the past. He's not a loose canon.

When you say the past.

Do you mean giving the Davis brothers enormous contracts. Then following it up with Croshere and Rose contracts? Trading for max player Dunleavy jr. and a horrible contract like Troy Murphy ain't winning him any awards anytime soon either. And giving Tinsley money to basically have him just sit on the bench isn't a star on his resume either. Walsh has made his share of omg blunders with cap space so let's not act like he wouldn't continue to do so.

I think you can do better than Murphy and Dunleavy, a whole lot better IMO.

At the time, this was probably a quick fix, being that these players had to go.
Just like we could have gotten more for JC and Zach.

Knick fans have the same problem when most people that get unexpected money suddenly and aren't use to it. They want to go crazy and make a splash. They forget common sense. Well I think it's time to update dj's "NO THANKS" list for 2010. These are just a few off the top of my head that I want no part of this summer.

JOE JOHNSON - GTFO. 29 years old and is starting to break down. He is not a franchise player and takes way too many bad shots.

CARLOS BOOZER - LOL. It must be a contract year because someone is trying to play defense with little success.

BEN GORDON - The problem here last year was the contract year. So it is all downhill until the next one comes up.

ELTON BRAND - Is he still in the league? Too many injuries and not enough production for his contract.

EMEKA OKAFOR - Never lived up to expectations and now appears willingly to fade into the realm of mediocrity. Even Brown knew.

AMARE STOUDAMIRE - Defense is non-existent. Concern about his ability to fulfill his contract without missing significant time.

CHARLIE VILLANUVEA - Good month. Bad month. So so month. Begin cycle again. No thanks.

TRACY MCGRADY - Is this 2000? Oh no. Well his time has come and gone.

GILBERT ARENAS - Ballhog who lives to take bad shot after bad shot. Besides strict gun control laws in NYC, just ask Plax.

AL HARRINGTON - been there. done that. There not enough shots in the world for Al. He will always need another one.

STEPHEN JACKSON - one of the few guys that Al can actually say hey try passing the ball more without someone laughing.

You guys are welcome to add to the list.

i would add David Lee to the list if it's going to take anything more than $10M per to sign him (& i mean per as in average annual value, i don't care that he can be signed for a 1st year salary of under that amount, i don't want a guy like Lee taking up no $15M in the cap in the last year of his deal)

i would consider trading Curry for Okafor depending on who we're pairing him up with in the frontcourt... if we do end up signing Lee, then Okafor would make a lot of sense to me... Lee will be gobbling up the lion's share of the rebounds anyway, all i would look for from Okafor is his shotblocking & defense in the paint... the dropoff in his play in the latter part of the season also had to do with a drop in minutes played as well.

i would consider anyone on this list if that's what it would take to get Lebron or Wade to come here this summer.

Lee will end up being one of the best players on the market and we'd do well to get back. I pretty much agree with with Pharzeone's list. The only one I'd take out of there is Amare. I'm not his biggest fan but he would be a heavy impact player.

Unless I got lucky and LBJ or Wade came here---my priority would be David Lee and one of either Stoudemire and bosh Bosh 1 Stoudemire 2. I believe with two premiere fc players combined with two 6-11+ guys who we can interchange off the bench will give us an immediate impact.

Again I think I would go like this

-Lee-6 yrs 66mm
-Bosh or Stoudemire --max 5 years
-S Livingston 3 years 18.5mm first two guaranteed
-Ian Mahimni 3 years 4.5mm
-Earl Barron 3 years 4.5mm
-opt in on Walker
Try to use Curry's and one of the picks contract for Rip Hamilton for 6th man

From watching them all year I think we can see the problems the positives and the negatives.

First off David Lee is very good but he cannot handle the front-court by himself. An addition of a premiere FC player--even if it is not a pure 5 would give the team an incredible change in many areas--and the most important differential. We have seen how D Lee has played with another big the last 6 games and he is simply just one heckuva basketball player. Adding in two 6-11+ guys off the bench who can interchange and add depth will solidify some of the interior problems we had.

Most of our problems came from the interior--that's where I want most of my resources to go to.

Second PG--just a terrible Low point for us. I started watching Livingston a month ago. I was very impressed with his overall play and leadership. he looked like he was completely healed---the only effects that I noticed were defensive lateral movement but he compensates with length. he was able to play 40 minutes without a hint of a limp--anything that would lead you to believe he had anything that would hinder him from playing 33+minutes a night as an effective starter. He had the same vertical lift[nothing spectacular but the same that he had] He was very vocal--he took control and like Clyde and Breen mentioned last night--the ball movement was great when he was in there. Quite frankly the kid is only 24 and when you are that young--you're body can heal and obviously his has. I do not want to pay Ray Felton[a very average PG who is on the short side 50+mm] I think shaun is perfect for us with Douglas as the combo back up.

6th man--a position that is very important in the NBA as we have seen. We had a pretty good one this year in harrington and he did make an impact on many games--but he had his time here. I think use the Curry contract with a pick or without--whatever and find a guy who is a 6th man type--ben gordon Rip Hamilton etc...

Another guy is Mike Miller. I think he would cost in the 5-6mm range. I proposed

Lee 9 (6 years $70mm)
Gallo 3.3
Chandler 2.1
Douglas 1
Curry 11.3
Walker 0.85 (pick up his option)
Barron 1.5 (2 year guarenteed deal)
Amare 17 (5 years $100mm)
Livingston 2 (2 year guarenteed deal)
Mike Miller 6 (4 years $27mm)
cap hold 0.45 (2nd rounder)
cap hold 0.45 (2nd rounder)

total 54.95

I think getting either Livingston or Mike Miller to play SG is key. It vastly improves our defense because it allows Douglas to start at guard and defend oppsing PGs. Then on offense he can play off the ball while Livinston or Miller facilitates the offense.

To me you add Amare, giving you 2 all star bigs, and you get a play making SG and just added 15-20 wins. I liked Mike Miller, because despite being 30 the guy is a great playmakers and even better shooter. You would have two all star bigs in Lee and Amare surrounder by 3 guy who can really shoot in Douglas/Gallo/Miller. Not bad weapons to have around 2 all star bigs who shoot 55%

No thanks to resigning SRod to a valuable roster spot and cap money because he is now deemed a close friend of Gallo's...The Announcers are saying Gallo is playing better because of his closeness to SRod...He now has someone on the roster he can relate to...Gallo isn't Patrick Ewing, PALEEEZE...
