Different arenas for sure, but both entertainers.

Is The Boss singing for a chance at a championship? Does The Boss do 80 concerts a year on several back-to-back nights plus an additional 20 concerts on a bigger stage?

Are we just as Mad when Yankees and Mets players do this?

tough comparison because rock bands like bruce and the estreet, when recording an album or going on the road on tour, probably spend MUCH more time practicing and traveling and performing than any nba player.

Is the Boss playing 80 concerts in a span of 6 months or a year b/c LeBron plays 82 games in a 5 and a half month season AND THEN the playoffs. And I'm sure Bruce does have to cancel a show if his voice is shot. Other singers certainly do it.

difference here is that the boss has been doing this consistently for what 40 years now? average lifespan of an nba player is like 10 or so....no comparison if you ask me.

I am pretty sure none of us would find it excusable if the main singer for a band didn't perform as expected and the rest of his band did (and we were expected to still pay for those tickets instead of canceled concert).

I dont follow baseball. Is it common for a main cog player to take a game or 2 off over 162-game season? Those guys have back-to-back-to-back-to-backs, don't they?

What I am mainly talking about is a perfectly healthy entertainer.

does it suck that some yankees sit out? sure.

but it's a little bit of a different animal. first off, you can watch the yankees on the road at a much cheaper price for a ticket. secondly, they play 3 games series in each city. so if arod sits one night, doesn't mean he will sit all 3. and baseball doesn't market it's star player like nba does. when people go to see a baseball game, it's generally more for the team. although some do go for the pitcher...but they don't sit pitchers.

this has been an ongoing practice in sports for the longest...but are you asking me to feel sympathy for a perfectly healthy athlete to just sit out a game on the road for no other reason that to not get hurt? it wasn't even a back to back. he couldn't suit up and play 20-25 mins especially if the outcome didn't mean anything to them? it's not like nba players are so spent that they have to go back to the hotel and sleep. half of them are out partying after the game.

Apparently you haven't read up on how hard Kobe trains during the season and in the off-season. Keep thinking players like Kobe and Lebron only get it in from October to June.

I don't see an issue with this at all.

If you're going at this from the fan angle, then should teams not be allowed to suspend a star player if, say, they miss practice or something? Fans are paying to see them.

I know LeBron was healthy, and it sucks for fans who solely wanted to see him, but this was an inhouse matter with Cleveland. Bron asked for a received the day off for a virtually meaningless game for Cleveland. It happens. It's like if the Colts sat Peyton is Week 17 after clinching home field. Knock yourself out, just get ready for the playoffs.

Which game is more physical when comparing Athletes of Elite caliber? You think Mariano Rivera goes through the same physical regimen as a player like Lebron. Seriously!

Not a big deal to me at all. The Cavs primary responsibility is to Cavs fans, not Bulls fans. That responsibility this year is to get a championship.

If the Knicks are in this position next year I would be irate if LBJ plays in a meaningless game and blows his knee out.

nah, i go to Yankee games to see Derek Jeter, ARod, etc. on the field... but if it's at the end of the season & they're resting them up for the playoffs, i wouldn't have a problem with it in the slightest... i want what's best for my team, if i have to be disappointed in not seeing the star players playing when i bought tickets to that particular game, then so be it.

After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Yeah, it sucks for the fans that go to those games. I always thought people have to be careful when purchasing those end of season package tickets because of stuff like that. This isn't just a NBA thing either. I wouldn't purchase tickets to see the Yankees on the road or at home in late September because I know guys like Jeter and A-Rod will most likely be out of the lineup. It sucks but it has been practiced so long it's hard to get work about.

Or buying a ticket to the final game of the year for an NFL team resting its regulars.

lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Now you're trying to pigeon hole which games and price of a ticket matter. Money is money period. If the Yankees play a 3gm series at Wringley Cross League rivalry in September and I buy a ticket only for 1 of the 3gms games and Jeter sits out the game I purchased the ticket for...... are you saying because it's baseball and I didn't buy a ticket for the other 2 games he played in because it was a consecutive day series it's my loss because of the number of chances I got to see him play? How much does the average ticket cost at the United Center vs Wrigley?

I'll break this down precisely......

Tickets at Wrigley Field for non-premium sections average $52.56 this season(it's higher if you factor in the premium seating)

Tickets at United Center for average ticket price arena wide $64.84 this season

$12 dollars is a difference but it's mainly skewed by the floor seat pricing and overall seating capacity. But you can pack more fans into a baseball stadium than a basketball arena. Considering the ratio of the average paying fan in attendance you're going to have more pissed off fans in a baseball stadium not being able to see the feature players if they sit out than in a basketball arena.

For the record The Cavs played @ Chicago April 8th yesterday...... and they also played them a few weeks before March 19th @ Chicago. Lebron played in the March 19th game. So whoever the fans were that bought tickets to the game on April 8th but didn't buy tickets on March 19th, well tough cookies.<-----You see what I did there

Baseball may not market players per team capita like the NBA but they do market certain players in their league like the NBA this is a fact

imho, it's a total disrespect to the opponents and to the sport, not to mention the fans.

thoughts?

He has done this in exhibition games in cities that don't have nba teams before and at times has stood up like he was going to enter the game to get the crowd going. I saw Jordan in exhibition games in the 90's and he sometimes only played a half but at least he got on the court and played.

You buy a ticket to see a team play. The team played. You might have wanted to see a particular guy, but that wasn't part of the deal. Any of 12-15 guys can play, and your ticket price has been honored.

Now, if you buy a ticket to see ac/dc, or the e-st. band, you buy that in the knowledge that there are a set group of guys who are in the band, all of whom are going to play. The cases are not analogous.
