MDA's Suns were never the worse teams defensively, usually around 15 and 16th in the league. You dont need to be a defensive juggernaut to win a chip, just need to get key stops down the stretch of games. And it doesn't hurt to have to have the best player in the league on your team aswell.

Talk all you want about the Spurs stopping the Suns, but at the end of the day Duncan was always the best payer on the court despite Nash's awards. The best payer usually wins.

actually Amare outplayed Duncan in that playoff series & was the best player in the playoffs that year, he averaged 37 ppg in that 5 game series & was completely dominant... the Spurs won by playing fundamental style ball with tough, gritty defense to counter Phoenix' stacked roster & high gimmick offense.

I do believe that with the right group of guys and the right system your gonna win period.

the question is does MDA preach the right system to win championships... he already had the absolute perfect team to run his system in Phoenix & still couldn't get it done... so what makes u think he'll be able to do it in NY?

How is Raja Bell, Diaw, KT and no Amare the perfect team to run his system? The only thing that really stood out on that team was Nash & Marion and he still found a way for those players to excel and win and get to the WCF's. If they didn't play any D, there's no way you get thru the tough Western Conf with that team. JUST CUT THE CRAP AND GIVE THE MAN HIS CREDIT!!! Make the case that that team was a great team!!!

i was referring to his '05 team of Nash, Amare, Marion, Joe Johnson, Barbosa, Jim Jackson, Q Rich, Jake Voskuhl, Bo Outlaw & Caparkaba that got completely smoked in the WCF by the Spurs... if u don't consider that the perfect team to run his system i challenge u to come up with something better that's even remotely realistic.

please spare me the CUT THE CRAP nonsense & stop taking such a personal affront every time we have these discussions... it's getting highly annoying.

What ever he was doing or not doing it didn't matter, they were very successful and fun to watch. That squad had a rookie in Amare, a passive Joe joe, and jake, Bo, Capa...ARE YOU SERIOUS. TMS you can not compare that Spurs team to that suns team, That would be like comparing the Jordan Bulls To the Ewings Knicks, we were losing to the "Jordans Bulls" not cause of talent, but they- mentally- were better then us.

Amare can Preach all about MDA's lack of defense, It's not as if they're all of a sudden top in the league in any defense categories now, as a matter of fact, Did porter get fired.

sorry but the Jordan Bulls had better talent period than the Ewing Knicks ever had... it wasn't just a factor of them having the best single player... Pippen, Grant, Kerr, Paxson, Armstrong, Cartwright, Kukoc, Rodman, Hodges... that's a pretty stacked team right there... even w/o MJ they got into the 2nd round of the playoffs & it took the Knicks 7 games to dispatch them, which shows how deep they were to begin with... they also had a head coach who preached team defense in Phil Jackson.

But were in a new era, there's no more thug it out basketball, this league is slowly turning into a finese euro stlye of play. DAVID STERN want's the MDA stlye of play to prevail, he wants the score's up in the 100's.

When we lost in the Olympics that year, we had no shooters and no leaders, but had the best talent.

they had athletes who were not great at playing basketball in a team env. guys who play 1-1 or look to shoot right away.

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!!

the teams that play great team defense still consistently win up to this day... from 2000 to the present, every championship team has played good team defense... the Kobe-Shaq Lakers, Spurs, Pistons, Heat, Celtics & the Kobe-Gasol Lakers... not a single team in the modern era has played a gimmick-oriented offense that was centered on the premise of simply outscoring the other team with as many possessions as possible over a 48 minute span... what makes u think it's a good idea for the Knicks to play that style of game to try & win one in NY?

I'm assuming that with all this talk Phoenix will have a better record and go further in the playoffs then they did in the D'Antoni days. If not, isn't just talk?? Don't we get on our guys for doing the same thing?
I just hope that people will like me

I never said you need to out score the other team, im just trying to explain that you don't have to be rank as a top defensive team to win a ring, i believe an adequate defense and a potent offensive can win it all.

I really can't see how you can call his offensive a gimmick when it served as the winning formula during the olympics.

This is pointless discussion.
Knicks under MikeD are losers.
What is the reason to it is irrelevant.
It reflects on the coach and makes him responsible.
Mike with Knicks is a loser. Period.
If we will get players who can actually play NBA ball and will start winning then Mike will look good again.
Did he make a mistake going to NY? Absolutely. But I guess he likes money and fame like anybody else.
So he has price to pay.
We as fans deserve some average Joe to be a coach because we have faith in nobody anyways.
We had a line of coaches here who failed one after another miserably. And still others are coming.
How much longer?

MDA was an assistant coach in the Olympics... but i do believe MDA could win a championship if he had Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Melo, Bosh, Deron Williams, CP3, Kidd, Boozer, Redd, Dwight Howard & Tayshaun if that makes u feel any better.

Who is the coach who can win the chip without kind of players you just listed?

i dunno but MDA is obviously a genius since he was able to win the Olympics as an assistant coach with such a depleted roster.

"I think so. With us not really focused defensively and not teaching defense a lot of the finger pointing was towards me saying that I wasn't a good defensive player but I just was never taught defensive strategy so it really was kind of unfair to put the blame on me. I think over time, it shows now that we are a better defensive team, we got guys that can play defense and my defense is not really that bad."

Q: Do you enjoy this brand of basketball more than D'Antoni seven seconds or less?

"With this offense we are not just going to shoot any shots, we're not going to shot bad shots. We're to make sure we get quality shots. We're going to make sure we get good looks at the basket. Sometimes in Seven Seconds or Less you shoot up a couple of shots and you get in the habit of shooting bad shots and kind of bits you sometimes in the playoffs. In this offense we are more humble out there. We know what's good shots and when to take them."

LOL

Interview is from March 30th, 2010. He makes his comments around the 6 minute mark. Basically sticks the shiv in D'Antoni.

I love it, If I were with Amare I'd stick more than that in MDA
Amare's right MDA has no use for Defense and he's a stubborn coach whom must bring in
defensive assistant coaches to help. MDA act is getting old here with blowout losses
