The Curse Of JR Reid
JR Reid was traded by San Antonio with Brad Lohaus and future 1st-round pick to New York Knicks for Charles Smith and Monty Williams on February 12, 1996. The Knicks had three first round picks in the June 1996 draft. Can you name them?
JR Rider was late for practice while he lived in the same building as the Atlanta Hawks practiced. How difficult could it be to ride an escalator downstairs for your job?
JR Smith has an NBA all star skill set and a midnight church league brain. Smith got off easy for running a stop sign and killing an East Orange man because his daughter wanted closure. He calls out Kobe. Not cool.
Notice a trend here?
JR Giddens had 5 years of collegiate drama and discord, to go along with his stats. At Kansas, Giddens was identified as the primary instigator during a highly publicized bar fight. Multiple witnesses reported that Giddens was involved in an attack that saw 10-12 people beat Jeremiah Creswell with fists, bricks and bottles. Saying he was trying to defend himself, Creswell brandished a knife and stabbed Giddens and four others. The Kansas athletic department received an anonymous tip regarding improprieties centering around J.R. Giddens and NCAA recruiting violations. Kansas wound up paying the price.
The talent is there to be cultivated. Problem is that talent can only take him so far. His ability is not the issue. It is his maturity.
Giddens desperately needs a mentor, a personal chef, a good woman, a life coach and a new agent. If not, it is a stone cold lock that he will be the answer to a Celtics trivia question in within three years.
