I'm incredibly angry over this. Walsh should be fired for making this deal.

If the lakers have managed to win in every decade and acquire talent and rebuild on the fly there is no reason the knicks with smart management couldn't. We were close with Camby and Spree and then with the Ewing trade killed any leverage. There is nothing preemptive about it.

The difference between Houston healthy and Johnson healthy is very small and Houston couldn't carry us when healthy so being scared Walsh makes a panic signing is warranted. He hasn't shown anything to make us believe he is focused to date.

It's nearly impossible for a major market franchise to make as many bad decisions in succession as we have. Right now we are still one of the worst franchises in all of sports.

Why wait? Let him sleep with the fishes now.

And for those that want to act dismissive over our concerns about signing this guy --- dont play yourself. Walsh has already traded away literally all of our assets the past deadline and boxed us in a rail. The Lebron chances seem to be slimming and Wade isnt coming here, so how many other 2 guards are behind door number 3? Dont believe his lies, he HAS to do something this offseason.

We've already seen stories claiming that Johnson-to-NY signing is a done deal. I dont believe that, necessarily, but for certain he's on our radar and Donnie is already seemingly positioning him as a consolation prize we should be happy about. Its clear he is emerging as our most likely option. We dont want him!

Who would be signing? Johnson is a nice little All-Star, not an elite player. The Hawks are a deeper team than us and he has been more in his prime than he will ever be, and the Hawks are nothing more than an above-average squad. A third best team in a two horse race. So why would anybody be excited about his potential signing?

If Donnie tells his staff that he plans on signing Joey J, then somebody needs to man up and let his or her voice be heard. Signing Johnson will be a mistake, especially considering the way Donnie has hamstrung this franchise.

This could do irrevocable damage to the Knicks brand. Fans have already suffered too long, but now we got the Knicks coming to Brooklyn ready to apply pressure. Hitching our fortunes to an aging off guard who isnt that good to begin with is a recipe for disaster.

Joe Johnson is a big big risk. I would rather try to get Bosh and Gay and use Curry's expiring to bring back a lead guard somehow.

I agree Joe Johnson sets off serious red flags for me. He's only a year younger than Tmac.

Johnson has said that he doesn't want to go to a rebuilding situation and his age and injury status is a big concern. That being said he is an MDA guy and that seems to have alot of pull with Walsh. I hope Walsh stays away from Johnson.

We've seen Joe Johnson's best days and they are those of the second-round variety. He's getting no better and he wasnt a hell of a lot to begin with.

if we can't land Lebron & Bosh this summer, i think we're better off splitting the cap on 2nd tier FA's to build a team with a lot of depth rather than overpaying for guys like Joe Johnson & Carlos Boozer.

If we were somehow to land Lebron and Bosh was taken, so only Gay and Johnson were available- any idea who he would prefer (and Why), or would he take a pass until 2011 when others are available?

Just wondering...

Is Boozer even in the discussion at this point?

I'm looking for a T-Mac signing for a year, maybe two at the 5 mil range. This allows for an extended look at him after a summer of rehab. He already gets the attention of an established star and it allows us to go with 1 max signing, then make forays into the 2011 market.

wade ain't too far behind with his constant injuries and physical style of play. you may get 3 more good years out of him tops...and the guy's jumper is weak.

Any of you guys have info that I am unaware of...

...or is this just a preemptive fan rebellion over something that may or may not be a consideration at some point?

It's pre-emptive strike.

Hell yeah. It's Lebron or bust. Listening to people conversations on the subway, at work and in general that seems to be a growing sentiment. The good: people are talking Knicks again in general. The bad: people are making threats while talking about the Knicks.

I fear for Donnie's safety if he strikes out.

I wouldnt agree with that.

Wade hasnt had lot of red-flag injuries. They're just the result of his hard-nosed play. Same with Kobe. He still has at least 4-5 years beyond this one at a very high level. He's worth the max baring a catastrophic, unforeseen injury. T-Mac was the same way, his knee just gave out on him. Couldnt see that coming.

I doubt that, he's a special player who will make the adjustment according to his body and health.
Guy's like him become better jump shooter's and smarter players, i see him playing at a high level for the next 5/6 seasons.

Joe Johnson is at his peak right now and likely has three years left at his peak, if not more.
