MLE type deal? Come on now. Chandler is better than the MLE. Marvin Williams got a 5 yr 43 million dollar deal and that was based off of potential.

Artest is crazy
Ariza had done little until he got to LA

Chandler will get more than the MLE.

are you serious? what has he done that justifies a statement like that?

btw - artest may be crazy but he is 100X's the player chandler is...i repeat 100X's chandler cant hold artest's jock on the defensive end nor the offensive end. its tiring to hear knciks fans overate the squad when they have only been able to acheive just over 20 wins so far this season......

The MLE is 6 million per. So you are telling me a 23-24 yr old athletic SF with a solid mid range game who plays defense cant get 7 million per? Alot of guys dont get paid for current production they get paid for future production.

i think mediocre players around th eleague are in for a rude awakening when it comes contract time

I heard the same thing about the last CBA. Young guys are going to get paid. 29+ yr old guys like Harrington and Mike Miller will be taking pay cuts.

Truth. Damn, you shut down this thread with the quickness.

yeah but difference is that this time around, we're in a global recession - most of these owners are taking baths in debt right now. the days of the $100M circle jerk and paying for overpriced talent are over.

He did not get to work on things last summer due to injury. I think he will come back next year with a more consistent jumper, with 3pt range. If he does, he easily could be a 18-20 point scorer if given shots. If the goal is the get Lebron or Anthony next year, then why pay Gay the $12 mil or so he is going to demand. In fact, Walsh should go ahead and extend Chandler this summer, if that is an option. I think he is going to have a Lee-like improvement next year.

A Lee like improvement for Chandler would mean actually getting some handle. We dont have the luxury of waiting to see if Chandler turns the corner. I also doubt we can keep Chandler for the 5-6 million less IF he makes the leap you expect him to make.

Rudy Gay is already a 20 point scorer on a good team with other scorers. If Chandler doesn't make the leap then we are stuck.

Gay has holes in his game too and like I said, I think Chandler is a better defensive player, which is something this team cannot stand to lose. Think if Walsh had signed Lee last year to a 5 or 6 year deal at about $7 or $8 mill per year. We would be looking pretty solid. Chandler has shown enough for me to believe that he is going to be a good player in this league for the next 5 years. I try to sign him on the cheap now before he has his blowout season.

Trust the Process

You assume Lee would have signed for that cheap an amount. I doubt it.

I ask because getting Rudy Gay will likely have to be done by S&T using Chandler unless we want to pay Gay the max.

What if we don't want to get gay?

I dunno, I kinda thought this year might have been that (breakout) year for Chandler. I feel like his game is kind of stagnant, and can understand that people think he doesn't have a much higher ceiling. I'm not saying I believe that, but I can understand the argument.

I like Will a lot, like his defense and his demeanor, but he lacks something important, like creativity, or instinct or something. Gay is more skilled all-around, more dynamic on the offensive end.

That said it will come down to value for the money. I would want to snag Gay for a reasonable deal.

i cant deal with JJ part 3 if he becomes a bust or doesnt live to his contract as a knick. Gay's name matches well with Dantoni's offense
