Yeah changing coaches has worked so well for us in the past. I think at some point you'd expect the most savvy fans in the world to recognize that the coach isn't on the floor and if players do stupid things it makes the coach look bad and there's not much he can do about it. We've discussed forever the need to bring in a better grade of talent. Guys that were already driven to succeed and that knew how to play and how to translate what the coach asks out on the floor.

Doc won the NBA title with KG, Pierce & Allen, but before KG & Allen, he was STINKING up the joint and they said he was clueless and once KG got hurt and the team started to flounder and loose games did Boston fans understand? Now they do, cuz they've seen with their own eyes how much difference good players make. Is it more about the players in this league than the coaching or vice versa? Man everyone here knows this is a players league. This ain't the NFL.

I think eVil meant to write it with the changes above:

I'm wondering if Isola's drop in quality (such that it is) has anything to do with Little Jimmy "locking him out" years ago?

Oh yeah I got it!!! I just think we have to get off the merry-go-round and realize that this team had to be changed and it's not about the coaching. Sure MDA probably doesn't look his best trying to figure things out with this group, but tell me who ever does when there's this little winning talent and this much upheaval. We've made major changes to the roster and not for the better. We're clearing things out. The TRUCK BE BACKED UP! Now we get to the end of this year and the whole reason DW and MDA were brought in begins.

We signed on for 2 years of suckage so that we could try to put a team together that can win for 5 yrs or more. Once we get some players on this squad then we can really evaluate what we have as a team and Coach. Imagine if we only judged coaches based on when they had bad teams. LB would never get another job. Doc would've been fired before they added KG & Allen.

D'Antoni had the team he started with coming out of training camp the previous season. The plan that I was hearing about was that the Knicks could make the playoffs and LeBron would be more interested in coming here. The coach has talked about playoffs for much of the year and yet his team came out of his training camp and went 1-9 while playing his vets. The only player that was traded at the deadline that Walsh planned on getting rid of at the start of the season was Jeffries. Nate, Darko and Hughes were all traded because D'Antoni had a hard time communicating with them and put Walsh in the position where he had to trade them to protect his coach again. Nate, Darko and Hill were devalued by D'Antoni so much the team got almost nothing back for them. D'Antoni doesn't like to be the authoritarian and he doesn't like confrontations. Walsh has to look at each available player he wants to bring in to see if they have the character, maturity, professionalism and a complete game that does not need coaching to be successful coexisting with his coach. If he wants his team to win they need to have the same qualities as well as being all stars and MVPs.

MDA said he wanted to develop the youth this year & proceeded to let the rooks waste away on the bench all year... they said he was a player's coach coming in & he's proceeded to alienate several members of the team and refused to communicate with them why... he's coached the same group of guys for 2 seasons now & the team looks just as bad as they did playing under Isiah Thomas if not worse... being patient on MDA is warranted because of the situation he was coming into, but you're being blind to the obvious if you think he's done a job that doesn't warrant criticism.

Evil you know this guy's style is a gimmick, it put fannies in the seat that's about it entertaning rec ball with super athletes.

When the bottom falls out all the posters who yakked up this team from december went hunting and haven't come back yet, some would call it hibernating

Nothing can replace this.
All this talking about building the team, system, plan, etc. are falling on deaf ear.
This is NYC and we want it NOW... There is no tomorrow.

So what are we going to do as fans this summer if things don't work out as planned ?

The Answer Man already KNOWS It Never Goes as Planned

Q. playa2 - So what are we going to do as fans this summer if things don't work out as planned?

A. Plan on savoring Las Vegas Summer League games and resetting your Eastern Conference Finals clock for 2014.

ark is 100% right. Playa... you have already declared the plan a failure in another thread. Its over. Of course you dont know what the plan is exactly, but who cares.

Knick fans want to rebuild, but cant tolerate losing. They want to retool, but only if its done their way. They want to draft, but only if its the guys that turn out to be great.

How is this different than trading your best player for crap and tanking for the next draft? Only thing is you guys are saying the plan has failed before you even see who gets picked

I don't think its only the players who have quit on the season.

There was a point during last nights telecast on MSG where Varejao put back a missed FT over Gallo and maybe Lee, and they showed D'Antoni talking to one of his assistants, saying something like - how can that happen.

And Mike, its simple - you're starting one of the shortest - probably the shortest group of players in the NBA. Of course, your team is going to give up plays like that.

And Mike, if you're so pissed off by the lack of effort, I bet Toney Douglas might be a good option for you.

thats fair. Guys like Walker and Douglas will give you fight every night. Thats for sure.

He did win 60+ starting Diaw and Marion at C/PF. Although I am not sure how.

Here is the thing with starting a smaller group of players - you've got to have athletes that can scramble and disrupt on defense.

David Lee, that is not.

I think the Rockets are shorter. But they are better talent-wise. And better coached.

makes me think Tyrus Thomas is a good fit. I have a gut feeling that that if we dont get an elite player or two its Lee/Sergio/Tyrus/JoeJohnson and there is your $38mm in cap space

Fishmike, I'm starting to have no desire whatsoever to keep Sergio. Everytime I am watching him, he seems to have a little bit of skill, but nothing special. Meanwhile, his defense is off the charts awful.

I know you liked the trade, but I hated it simply because I felt we could have landed LeBron with what we had, and we didn't NEED a superstar to get him. I mean, no matter what, the chances are slim, but if he's going to come here, I think he would come no matter what, and he'd rather choose a good team to play with, rather than a good player. We had the tools to build a good team, and got rid of them all.

If I'm LeBron, I'm not nearly as convinced about coming to New York NOW, especially after last night.
